The worst place you have stayed in when in Orlando and why?

Masters Inn - Kissimmee September 2003

Booked this as part of a DIY holiday so that we could return to Orlando but not spend as much money as we had the first time. Would NEVER stay there again.

The reception absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke, and the staff member was far from friendly. We found our room, and couldn't speak to each other above the noise of the air con, and the room was filthy. We complained and were allocated another room, which had quieter air con, but was equally as filthy. We were too tired and it was too late at night to do anything more about it, so after lots of tears (from me) we slept there one night.

Attempted to get the "free continental breakfast" the next morning, which involved a rather old, dirty coffee machine, and two trays of danish pastries which disappeared in about 30 seconds flat, set out in one of the rooms which had been stripped of the beds and carpet etc.

Checked out, and went to the tourist information place, who very kindly helped us find another hotel, where we asked to see the room before saying we'd stay! Turned out to be a really lovely hotel, just one street over from International Drive, with more people there for convention rather than vacation, but we liked it. Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites on Universal Blvd.

Spent a couple of months complaining to the online TA we booked with when we came back, and they eventually refunded us the hotel money. Didn't even half cover what we spent on the Holiday Inn, but I didn't care, our room there was lovely, and CLEAN.

Have only stayed on-site at WDW apart from that, and it's one of the reasons I won't stay anywhere else!

The one you liked wasn't the comfort inn was it? It's set back off I drive behind a checkers and near a golden coral.

We stayed there once when it was first opened and thought it was fine but it did have alot of conference goers. Breakfast was full of people on phones trying to sound important.

We nicknamed them the 'paperclip' convention.

Worse one for us was years ago we were travelling up from Miami and just needed a place for the night before the flight. We got a flyer from a stop on the turnpike and stayed at a hotel whose name I can't recall on South Orange Blossom trail. Think it was $20 a night.

Yes I know now not to stay there. Let's just say it was eyeopening - saw a trucker taking a prostitute to one of the rooms!

We stayed at OKW last year and hated it! The air con in the room was faulty, it wouldn't stay cool, you had to keep putting it down and it would then creep up and it meant that throughout the night we would wake up in a baking hot room. The internet didn't work, the room was really tired, there was refurb work going on which meant all day all you could hear was banging and drilling.

I feel for you having construction work going on during the day but we once had it during the night :scared1: At the Grand Floridian :scared1: Staying in the main building concierge :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
The front desk denied there was any maintenance going on but funnily enough a few minutes after we had called them we heard the non-maintenance people (who it sounded like were working directly above our room) pick up their tools and then start again further down the hall!

Needless to say I didn't get any sleep that night, they didn't even offer an apology but refunded us half the cost of the room for that one night :confused3

We didn't enjoy our stay there at all - I was gutted. We originally wanted to stay at the Polynesian concierge but the building was being rennovated at the time, I asked for us to be moved to the Contemporary (I had actually found out about the rennovations on the internet - Disney had not informed us!) but that was also being rennovated (concierge). They said we could stay at WL, I said NO THANKS! The whole point of us staying at the Polynesian was being on the monrail! So we insisted it was the GF or nothing - I wish I had stuck with the Polynesian and cancelled the concierge as I think if we had re-booked we would have got free dining (we booked via Disney USA over the phone in March for a Sept trip so weren't told about the free dining offer that they had in the meantime! - I wish I had found the Dis and Dreams Unlimited before that trip!).

However our split stay included the Beach Club and that was awesome! Infact if we hadn't had the BC part I don't think DH would have ever wanted to come back to WDW :sad1:

So the GF can take it's stuck up poncy attitude (that was another thing that bugged us) and it's extortionate room rates and go jump in Bay Lake! We still both hate that place and I think the only way you'll get us near there is on the resort monorail as we pass through
