Trip Report June 12 Day 6 – ‘Goodbye Bunny, We’re Leaving Florida tomorrow’

A final reminder of our cast: Me – turning 30 tomorrow, the day we leave, DH – 30, DS - 4 and DD - 11 months

I titled this after one of DS’s famous quotes that I love so much. We saw many bunnies while we were at our hotel, but DS always seemed to think it was the same one just following him around. On one of our walks on our last full day here, he told the bunny, “Goodbye Bunny, we’re leaving Florida tomorrow and I will never see you again!” It was sad, funny and just adorable all at the same time! He told everything else goodbye, too, from his big bed in the room to the hotel pool. :love2:

We didn’t have a lot planned for today. This was meant to be one of the most flexible days on the trip based on how tired we were and what we felt like doing. The first thing we did was get ready very slowly in the morning. I can’t say we slept late, because we have an 11 month old alarm clock, remember? But, we took our time getting ready and then headed over to the Pepper Market for breakfast at 8:30 – that is late for us! It was too crowded at this hour and it took a little longer to get our food. I took a ton of pictures on the way there and back of the hotel grounds. It finally wasn’t raining or cloudy for a change! It made things very pretty, but also very hot! After breakfast, we headed back to the room to get changed so we could finally swim in the big pool. DD and DS loved the splash pool for the little kids. They had fun there. We tried to go to the bigger part of the pool, but I guess with all the rain and it still being a little early in the morning, the water was too cool for us, so DH took DD back to the little pool so she wouldn’t get chilled and I stayed with DS in the bigger pool. The two of us went to go get in line to ride the slide. I was pretty nervous about DS doing this, but he really wanted to. Since DH wasn’t in the pool, I knew I would have to go first and DS would have to follow – what if he chickened out and didn’t want to go and I wasn’t up there with him? There was a dad behind us with a girl my son’s age and they were doing the same thing. He was very nice and helped my son know when to go and how to sit in the water before going. Thank you so much, wherever you are! I rode the slide and then stayed at the landing area waiting for my son. The scene I describe next will be forever etched into my memory – especially when thinking of our trip. My son came barreling around the corner head first with his arms stretched out in front of him. He was supposed to be sitting up! His eyes were as wide and round as can be and he yelled my name out, ‘Mommmiiieeeeeee!’ :earseek: . He landed on his belly and right in my arms. I smiled at him, but inside I was laughing at that look on his face! I asked him if it was fun and he said YES! with a big smile, then I asked him if he wanted to ride it again and he said NO! He explained to me that when he went around the first corner, it slung him around and he couldn’t sit up anymore. Poor thing didn’t get to see the Jaguar looking over the slide since he was on his tummy! Luckily, he was able to laugh about it afterwards and he said it was fun. He still talks about it now, but he tells me he doesn’t want to ride it again until he is 6. He also asked if we could come back to Florida when he was 41, 42 or 43. I told him absolutely he could do that! And be sure to bring me, too!!!

Since we ate such a late breakfast, we went back to the room and had just a light snack before nap. We figured we could have a light lunch between nap and our 5:00 dinner reservation at LeCellier. The maids had already come, so that helped. The kids conked out pretty quickly once again. We decided for our last go at a park, we would attempt to go to some of the countries in the World Showcase and finish up in Canada for our dinner. We started in on the Mexico side. We had already done that, so we went to Norway and then China – and we ate a light lunch at China’s counter service restaurant. We could tell there were a lot of things that DH and I wanted to stop and see, but it was just way too hot for us – we knew there would be no way we could make it around the back side of World Showcase. We were having a lot of trouble getting out of the heat and keeping cool. So, we ended up backtracking. We rode the Maelstrom in Norway. DS loved it, said it was his ‘last ride’ before we left Florida and that it was a good last ride! Then we headed around for Canada. We were a little early for our dinner reservations, but they let us in right away with no wait time at all. We were really looking forward to eating here because of everything we had read about it. Problem was, DD was not! I think the poor girl had decided she had had enough of table service restaurants and did not want to sit through one more! Plus, we were all so hot, I didn’t blame her for being irritable. We liked the rainy days better! There was no way we were going to sit and let her cry through a meal. What ended up happening was that we took turns letting her walk holding our hands through the front lobby while the other person ate with our son at our table and we just kept trading off. Stressful, but better than the alternative. Our food was very good. The crème brulee was just wonderful. DS got a S’more for his dessert and it was the best dessert he had all week. He had a lot of fun eating that one! The CM’s here were so nice. They talked to us a lot while we were entertaining our daughter in the front lobby. They even played with her and tried to help keep her happy, too! We enjoyed talking to them about Canada. Our waitress was very understanding. I told her we were flying home in the morning. She did everything she could to help speed things along and help us out however she could. We were so impressed with how nice everyone was, so even though it was a hard meal to go through, we enjoyed it a lot. After this meal, we made a speedy exit and headed back to our hotel for the last time. We had a lot of fun, but were tired and ready to go home. Our evening consisted of packing as much as we could pack considering we had an appointment for a bellman to pick us up at 4:40 in the morning! Ugh. The big thing to note here, too, is that while we were packing, Audrey took her first 3 steps. How sweet that it happened at Disney World! And…DH was so worried he would be at work and miss it. So, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. By the next day, she was taking as many as ten steps and was walking all over the place after we had been home for a week.

Next day – June 13

Now, I am 30. :bday: Wasn’t looking forward to this age at all! But…the last time I went to WDW, I was 22. So much 'stuff' has happened between then and now. I think this trip was symbolic in a way to show me that things are okay and I have finally gotten everything in my life back on track and in order. Cheesy, I know, but pretty true. It meant so much to me to bring my family to this wonderful place that it was worth the extra hardships of bringing along a baby and a challenging 4 year old. And they really weren't hardships. Nothing we don't encounter when trying to eat at a restaurant at home or doing a shopping trip. I know some people would say they would never do it and they would wait until the kids were older. DH and I needed this trip and the memories we have are priceless. It also showed us that we can do it and we won’t have as much of a fear of doing things with the kiddos now – like little weekend trips, things like that. Most of all, I was so excited to see that all of my family was going to share my love of Disney and have my desire to return again and again! And with that being said, what a way to celebrate a new decade for me!

We had to get up waaaayyyy too early this morning! We had to wake up the kids early, too, unfortunately because DH had to take apart the crib we rented. Luckily, disassembling the crib was much easier than trying to get everything in our suitcases. That turned out to be a very tough skill! I thought since so many of our daughter’s baby supplies were gone that everything would go home just fine. Nope! We had too many souvenirs for that to work. We ended up having to have a new carry on – a big WDW bag with tons of stuff in it. We were so worried they wouldn’t let us get on the plane with it. It completely dwarfed any restrictions for carry on luggage! We got on the place and crammed it down between our seats and kept our fingers crossed that no one would say anything. Since we got up so early, both kids conked out on the plane and it was a smooth ride home. After we landed, the best part was watching my son run off the airplane yelling ‘Nana, Nana!’ and going straight for my mom’s arms. He missed his Nana and Grandpa so much and couldn’t wait to tell them all about it – even though he talked to them on the phone almost every day, it wasn’t the same as in person!

Thanks so much for reading my trip reports. I must say that our family was very grateful for all the rain. We came expecting to not get a lot done and keeping a slow pace for the little ones. The rain enabled us to do so much more than we had anticipated. I enjoyed this way of journaling our trip and this is definitely something I would do again! I hope you all get to have wonderful trips to WDW with lots of pixie dust very soon!

THE END :wave2:

I have read and loved all your reports. Travelling with a soon to be toddler is a challenge but she did very well. How special that her first steps were at WDW. We will be going with a 6y, 2-4yo, 2-21/2yo, 2-15mo, 13mo and an 8mo. There will be ten adults so at least we will outnumber the kids.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip.

Loved reading your whole report! Sounds like you had a great trip with the kids-- it'll be fun to visit when the kids are older and can enjoy things in a different way. We've loved all our trips in different ways, depending on our kids ages and what we were able to do.

Thanks for the wonderful reports. It's helpful to read about the experiences of others w/ small children. We're heading to WDW in December with our 6 & 3 yr. old daughters. It will be the 6 yr old's 3rd trip and the 3 yr. old's 2nd. Some of your experiences may well help shape my planning.

THANKS!

AHR

Wow! Great trip report! I enjoyed reading each day of your trip and it was helpful for me. We are off to WDW soon with a 4 year old (special needs) son and a 15 month old daughter. Our daughter is also on the verge of walking and I'm hoping she takes her first steps at WDW too! We took the both of them this past December but at the time she was only 8 months and she has changed a lot since then, and also this will be our first time to take both of the kids during the heat of the summer. So your report was especially helpful in that regard.

Thanks again for your trip report, it was very entertaining to read. Glad it was a great trip!

Sounds like you and your kids have wonderful memories to share for a long time. By the way :bday: , I'm turning 30 next week (oh geez, I didn't realize it was that close! ) well I keep saying, it's not 30 that I'm afraid of, it's being IN MY 30's :scared1: Ha, Ha :rotfl2:
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you had such a great time!

Thanks for the trip reports. We are going in Feb with a 7 year old, 5 year old twins and an 8 month old. I think you are brave for going to so many sit down meals. We have not been at a sit down restaurant since the twins were born! Your report helped me realize what it will be like with an 8 month old. We are debating about adding park hopping to our tickets and after reading your report, we may.
