The World of Disney Misconception

I can verify that you can save money by shipping stuff home. One year we knew we would be making several large purchases at the Lego store that we didnt' want to haul home, so we had it shipped. I think around $80 you break even (the shipping charges are equaled out by the money you save on sales tax) We also did this with the giant Cinderella castle. The hard part is getting the kids to agree to not getting to play with their new toys for a few days!

I wish I knew that a few years ago!!! We did the whole "Wait for it til WOD... last day thing" We had APs so it was 10% off there, and we had a few disney dollars saved up ($50 or so?) along with a Disney Visa Reward of about 200+ (if I recall) So I told my wife to "go nuts!" ... BAD IDEA! I figured with a $250 head start and 10% and the fact that she had passed on a few things throughout the trip to buy downtown. When it took 2 carts and three employees to ring us up I knew we were in trouble!!! Needless to say the Tax Tip would have saved my a LOT of money and our van would not have been overflowing for the drive home.

Last November, I bought a Tink bag somewhere on property. A few days later I saw it at the Under ten $ store at DTD for about $2 less. There was a long line and we had already taken the tags off, so I really didn't think about trying to get a price adjustment, but it did make me think that it is worthwhile to check there.

Just made a minor edit to my first post for those who are not looking..... added in that WOD does not carry hotel logo merchandise.

Soooooo.. I've been trying to think of something else to add... so I will share a bit more about shipping. Say you went on a big shopping spree all week and while packing to go home you realize... oh no, you ran out of luggage space. You could do a couple things... a: return the stuff that does not fit (but who wants to do that?) B: Buy a new piece of Disney Luggage (available in several different sizes and a couple different styles) or C do what it called Post Sale Shipping.

You can take your Disney items to any Disney merchandise location and ship them all together for the same rate as you would if you shipped it when you bought it. This is helpful if you have bought on item here and one item there, you can combine them all together and pay for the shipping once. There are a few things to remember while doing this though. First, you must have the original receipt for whatever you are shipping home. No Receipt, no shipping. Next, the items had to of been bought at a Disney Owned Location. This means no items from the Lego store or Planet Hollywood, etc.

This also can be done for Resort Shipping too (and I assume front of park delivery will work too). If you bought something and do not feel like carrying it around any more. Just take your Disney item and the receipt to any Disney merchandise location and they can send it to your resort for you.

also, there are many prouducts exclusive to EPCOT...most of the stuff from the different countries is only avalible @ the park.

Thanks for all of the great informtion. I've learned the hard way to purchase something when you see it, or you will never find it again.

With my luck, if I planned a large shopping spree in the WOD, we'd be having so much fun in the parks that I wouldn't get there - then I'd really be out of luck!

This is also true for the Emporium at MK. Not all merchandise that is sold at MK is available there.

I learned this the hard way, I was looking for the Baby Simba :simba: plush at the Emporium at park closing & they didn't have it & the shop at Adventureland was closed. :sad1: On top of that, I had a 8am flight back home the next morning, so I couldn't look for it then. (Fortunately, I was able to order it through WDW Mail Order :) ).

The moral of the story is, if you see something you can't live without, go ahead and get it then and there!

I have a question...

There was an item at the Japanese store (Mitsukoshi) that I really considered buying but didn't. I didn't have time to go back and get it. Is there anyway I can buy it online and get it shipped here - or perhaps email or call Disney?

I recall people have contacted a Disney number to ge a particular item but I wasn't sure if they could from the WS stores.

Thanks.
