Texas Woman Who Left Homeless Man to Die in Windshield Found Guilty of Murder

FORT WORTH, Texas June 26 —
A former nurse's aide was found guilty of murder Thursday for hitting a homeless man on a highway and driving home and parking in her garage with his mangled body still lodged in the windshield.

Jurors deliberated less than two hours in the case of Chante Jawan Mallard, 27, who faces life in prison on the conviction.


The sentencing phase was to start in the afternoon. Mallard also faces up to 10 years for tampering with evidence, a charge to which she pleaded guilty to earlier this week.

The whole story is incredible.....weird and incredible. I can't help wonder what her thought process was as it was happening.

I remember first hearing about this and weird was my first thought followed by "Why?" and then how sad it was.

I think the right verdict was definatly handed down.

HauntedMansionGeek, I think her defense was that she was so high on drugs and alcohol, she did not know right from wrong, and had a significantly clouded sense of judgement.

Very sad, indeed.


Somehow, especially as a NURSING ASSISTANT, I would have expected that she would have had SOME compassion on the suffering of others . . .

Thank goodness! I was afraid from listening to Court TV last night that she might be convicted of a lesser charge (manslaughter). She is a pathetic excuse for a human being -- as are the friends that helped her dispose of the body. I wonder if they're being charged with anything. Can you imagine getting the phone call "Hi, I killed a guy with my car last night and he's in my garage stuck to the windshield. Can you come over and get rid of him." And they say, "Sure, I'll be right over"! Who (or what) ARE these people!?!?!?!

I had online that one of her friends told her she needed to call 911. She told the friend that she didn't want to get in trouble and go to jail.

All she had to do was get the man to a hospital, instead she choose to hide her actions. The murder verdict is all they could do. The only defense witness was a Dr who agreed that with prosection medical experts that he would have lived with medical attention within an hour.

All I have head is they both plead guilty to Tampering with Evidence. If that is all they get them they are very lucky indeed. I wouldn't have let them take a plea. They belong under the jail with The Windshield Killer.

The friends did take a plea bargain, both received more than 5 years but don't know if that was paroled or suspended. They both testified against her, although they did help dispose of the body he was dead before they arrived.

I thought that with the charges that they plead guilty to they both received ten years. Whatever they received, it's not going to be long enough!

This has got to be one of the most horrendous cases I have ever heard of! The man was still ALIVE - and she just kept going back out into her garage (as he was moaning) APOLOGIZING to him !!"
