short version - Can someone tell me what happened in the last 10 minutes of the Nick Cage movie The Wicker Man? Thanks

long version - The day before this movie was named as Razzies' 5 worst movies for '06, my dh rented it from On Demand. It started out ok but got pretty lame after awhile. We both fell asleep about 10 minutes before the end. When we woke up we ff'd to where we had fallen asleep & started watching, then promptly fell asleep again.

Instead of trying for a 3rd (or maybe 4th) time, we went to bed & the window ran out for our rental time. So, as bad as it was, still curious how it ended. I figure the whole thing was his last thoughts after trying to save the girl from the car fire, sort of a dream as he was being burned.

Not sure exactly where ten minutes started but I'll try. He found out that he was lured to the island to be used as a sacrifice . They then burned him alive in a huge "wicker man" structure (literally a huge man made of wood) and that's where it ended. It made even less sense to me than the original movie. hth!

OMG, too funny I found this thread!! DH and I just watched this movie the other night. We figured since it was Nicolas Cage, it had to be good, right?? This has got to be one of the worst movies I have seen in awhile!! When he was being lifted up into that silly wicker statue, I kept thinking, this is not how this is going to end...and guess what - it did. Nicolas Cage gets burned alive in the statue with a bunch of farm animals!!:headache:

Didn't see the Nick Cage version, but did see the original from the '70's, which was actually pretty good. I'm glad to hear that they kept the ending the same. I figured with Cage as the lead, they'd tweek it so that he'd live...I hate when they do that!

To add just a bit more, Nicholas Cage blended in with everyone else wearing costumes to march to the sacrifice location which is where it appeared they had his daughter bound and prepared to be sacrificed. He dashed over, rescued her, and ran into the woods as some people began to chase them.

They kept running, and his daughter got a bit ahead of him, leading him through the forest. Eventually, the forest opened up to a large field of all the island inhabitants standing in a very huge semi-circle. His daughter continued running way ahead of him, straight into her mother's arms, asking something to the extent of "did I do it right mama?" to which the mother said she did very well.

At this point, Nick Cage is standing in the center, trying to figure out what is going on, and the circle of people is closing in on him. You find out (as the other posters mentioned) that they lured him there because they needed to sacrifice someone who was blood-related to someone there on the island. They had a bad crop of something or other and the sacrifice was meant to give them a better crop.

This is where the reveal this gigantic structure made of wicker that looked like a man. They proceed to raise him up by rope within the center of the structure (which also contained a few other animals) to the very top, then they lit it on fire. You watch it burn for a while, then the movie is over.

The alternate ending on the DVD showed the same exact ending except there was an added portion just before they hoisted him into the wicker man. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think they had him bound, laying down, and proceeded to hit him with a sledgehammer or something in a couple places, just to add to the shock value I guess.

Anyway, we were disappointed in it too. We thought it moved so slowly, and in the end we thought he would escape or something... no such luck.

EDITED: you didn't forget, I just missed it!!
The very violent and disgusting part where they held him down and smashed his limbs (knees?) with a mallet while he screamed was SO sick.
It should also be noted how stupid he looked running around in that bear suit.
I do think this is a contender for Worst Movie of All Time.
Nic must have REALLY needed the money.

I wasn't aware when we had rented it that it was a remake; I thought it was an original story. In light of that fact, I agree that it was good they kept the ending the same and didn't change it (despite what I wrote in a previous post!).

Hated this movie. Only good part was that it helped me in my case to convince my teenage son to stay away from girls. :rotfl:

Step away from the bike!

Funniest
Movie
Ever

AHhhhhhhh the bees! Not the bees!

:rotfl2:

Just like some of you, I though hey it's Nicholas Cage! How bad can it be? Well, let me tell you this was the weirdest and worst movie. It was awful. I can't even fully explain how stupid it was. If you haven't already, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. How's that for a recommendation? :teeth:

We have yet to rent this movie and probably never will. What irks me the most is that they label this as a "pagan" ritual movie. Bullcrap. My Dh is a pagan and the religion is probably the most peace loving of them all. They would never sacrifice anyone  This boils my blood when his religion is portrayed as being evil and sinister.

Well then it looks like I only missed a minute cause I saw up to the part where the little girl runs to her mother & they reveal the "wicker man". Really thought it would be something his imagination conjured up as he burns from the car fire at the beginning. Not that that would have been much better but it got so ridiculous when they were all running around in their costumes.

Don't you sometimes think of better endings for movies or shows, not that I can write a whole book or movie. Some movies are so predictable I can tell who the murderer is in the first 15 minutes. It's usually a peripheral character they stick in who's not really central to the story & isn't really needed otherwise.

A couple questions from a fan of the original.
Was this a musical like the original?
In the original Rowen(missing Girl) was not related to the main charector... Was she in this version?
Did the naked inkeepers daughter try to seduce Nick Cage with a naked song...It was highly important to the original that the sacrifice be pure and a virgin...This is why Brit Ecklund did her naked dance...If so, who played her?

WHo replaced Christopher Lee in the roll of Lord Summerisle?

In my opinion the original film skewered ALL religious people... Edward Woodwards charactor was a pompous, superstious prude... Lord Summerisle murderous cult was also not well shown.

ETA, I love the original movie

HAs anyone seen both, that can compare the original to the remake?

Oh my God! Jenny, you just gave me flashbacks to the original! The music! The naked song was pretty outrageous at the time and when I watched it again, I STILL couldn't figure out why Britt was doing her thang. NOW I know. The whole virgin thing.

Color me stupid.

Yeah ,she was a test.Unfortunately for him, he passed.

I also liked the original. I have not seen the re-make.

I didn't see the original but this was not a musical. The little girl was related to N.Cage (his daughter). It had to be a person who was related but not close or something like that.

Summerisle was played by Ellen Burstyn (who I had just watched the night before in the original Exorcist). And it was mostly women, the men seemed subserviant.

A male virgin? Really? In his 30's? Maybe the 40 year old virgin guy.:rotfl:

He was a strict Christian which is why he was a virgin, and it was why he was tested by the naked Britt Ecklund:woohoo:
I'm really surprised they replaced Christopher Lee's character with a woman.
No music? The music was the highlight of the movie
Sung by kids dancing around the Maypole

In the woods there grew a tree
And a fine fine tree was he

And on that tree there was a limb
And on that limb there was a branch
And on that branch there was a nest
And in that nest there was an egg
And in that egg there was a bird
And from that bird a feather came
And of that feather was
A bed

And on that bed there was a girl
And on that girl there was a man
And from that man there was a seed
And from that seed there was a boy
And from that boy there was a man
And for that man there was a grave
From that grave there grew
A tree

In the Summerisle,
Summerisle, Summerisle, Summerisle wood
Summerisle wood.

And then this gem ,sung by women jumping naked through the Fire

Take the flame inside you
Burn and burn below
Fire seed and fire feed
To make the baby grow

Take the flame inside you
Burn and burn belay
Fire seed and fire feed
To make the baby stay

Take the flame inside you
Burn and burn belong
Fire seed and fire feed
And make the baby strong

Take the flame inside you
Burn and burn belie
Fire seed and fire feed
To make the baby cry

Take the flame inside you
Burn and burn begin
Fire seed and fire feed
To make the baby King

Jenny, please tell me that you looked those songs up & that you haven't memorized & been singing them since the first movie came out years ago?:scared1::lmao:
