The whole PIN thing makes me angry

Nope. Not a hypocrite. If you've read my other posts, you'll see that I'm admittedly jealous that my PINs have stopped and admitted to not even thinking about it before. Not a darn thing hypocritical about that. Thanks for that though.I'll happily accept my 40% when offered. The person beside me should have received the same offer though.

I'm just saying that I can see where frequent and valued customers sometimes get little bonuses and coupons for their loyalty. Most businesses do it.

But random PINs sent to non existant people doesn't seem right to me. And I'm not ashamed to say I'm annoyed about it. Guess what?! Non existant people won't be reserving anything, whereas I'll be spending actual real life $$$.

I believe it should be Public offers with expiration dates. Everyone has the opportunity to use them or not. If they want to send PINs to whom they feel are their most loyal and deserving guests, then go ahead. It's sort of a customer service standard.

But I'm no hypocrite.

I disagree with discounts being a customer service standard. Many places give lowe rates to new customers in the hopes of hooking them.It is just like how the cable company offers a cheaper rate to new customers, but won't allow current customers to have the same rate. It is a bummer, but each business can give discounts to whoever they want.

Why worry about something you have no control over?

Before you can complain about not getting a "PIN" you must call and find out. There have been times I have called and a "PIN" was attached to my name or my husbands name and I never recieved an email/snail mail. You must have the agent check every name in your household for a "PIN" attached.

I booked our august/September trip last year in September a year in advance, I have created a Disney account, taken a million surveys whenever they pop up, and I have never received a pin code. I have modified my stay there via the phone reservations 2 times, added on days and air fare. Also through out this I made my dad's reservations which is separate, and modified his as well, and haven't gotten a thing!

Since I'm usually pretty unlucky, I figured this is par for the course!

The thing that irritates me about Disney marketing is when they send pins to people you have traveled with but who do not live at your address to your address. This happened in '09 when they sent a pin postcard to my mom @ my address where she's never lived. Then I started receiving emails addressed to my son and his (now ex) gf in my personal email and a credit card offer for the exgf to my address. I don't mind Disney marketing to people who haven't booked with them but have stayed there as part of my reservation, but they need to send the offers to where those people live and not expect me to be their conduit. I do object to them sending mail addressed to others to my physical address and email addressed to others to my personal email address - it's like they are rubbing my face in the fact that these people are getting pins and I'm not. Mmm, maybe I need to have someone else book the reservation and Disney will send me a pin to their address.

YES! We get Disney mail addressed to my MIL (PINs included) at my house ALLLL the time.

My mother-in-law has never lived in our house (thank god) and has never once in her entire life been to Disney World. Why we get Disney mail for her is beyond me.

And it's happened more than once that I've gotten a PIN, but it was addressed to her so we were SOL. :(

Well, we've gotten pins before but have never used them. We'd rather pay full price to stay where we want to stay during the time of year we choose, rather than let it all revolve around some code. May sound a little stuck up, but as you can see...I only go around Halloween :) And I'm particular about where we stay.

I used to get upset we never got pins. But once they started coming I was like 'meh.'

I've gotten PINS in the past and seemed to have dropped off the radar, so maybe that's why I'm annoyed, but the more I read, the more annoyed I get.

Simply stated, I don't think it's right that the person in the room next to me got 40% off or free dining and I had to pay full price because I didn't receive some random email! Seriously. It's one thing to have a public promo with a "book by" date. Everyone has the opportunity. But the PINs are different. It's like they are selecting who they feel deserves a discount.

Don't like it. So now here's hoping I get a PIN for those blocked out weeks in October!

In my experience with Disney these last 9 years I've learned one thing - Keep your eyes open!!!!! Disboards almost always list GREAT deals. The recent PIN's were for summer.....which haven't been this good in many years - I've been lucky (over the years) watching disboards and got (or took) the 40% off code SEVERAL times. Mind you, this is the FIRST time I've EVER received my own. I know it’s frustrating but trust me, keep your eyes open. BTW, IMO, this is Disney’s way of bringing in a few people who would have booked at Universal (ie Harry Potter) but reconsidered because of free dining. I had an entire Universal vacation planned and nearly sealed when I received that PIN.

I just wish you could trade. I have a great pin - the 40% for Nov/Dec that everyone keeps talking about but I not going then... I am going in August. I need/want the FD pin for July/August but nope... i got one that does fit into a time when I can go...

i actually do not understand the draw of pin codes. i'm booked for two trips in the next three months, and i'm not paying rack rate for either. on trip number one, i used an AP rate (which causes the AP to completely pay for itself in one visit) and for the second, i found a general public discount (on this site--yay dis boards!) and saved over $400 on our room at AKL (it was 25% off).

would i be thrilled to get a 40% off pin code? absolutely! i'd be booking at BC in a heartbeat. but i can find other ways of making the trip less ouch-worthy...like staying at CSR, which i'm doing for my next trip. :thumbsup2

and to echo what some other people have said about nothing in travel being fair, here's a story for you...i purchased round trip tickets on the eurostar from paris to london. i booked in advance. i paid $79 USD round trip. but then i had to fly home early. my RETURN ticket--not round trip--on the SAME TRAIN my husband was on (for $79 rt) was $180, simply because i purchased it only 13 days in advance. my return flight--that i also had to change--was more than my original round trip ticket.

nothing is fair in travel. but we still love to do it! :goodvibes

From a bottom-line perspective, if Disney knows you'll come anyway without a PIN, why would they send you one?

The PINs are clearly meant to entice people who otherwise wouldn't go. If you want a PIN, take a few years off going to Disney and you'll probably get one.

Not really true. I've received Pins every year AFTER I already had a trip booked. And I know I'm not the only one.

Not true at all. Plenty of people have their trips already booked and still get blessed with a PIN. They're able to apply it to their current reservation with no problem. And get this ... my Disney TA goes to WDW twice every year, and she's received three PINS!

talk about unfair, imo if a pin comes to your address you really should get to use it!
