The Whirlwind Trippers take a 12 dayer - The Husbands first ever report! w/pics pg 7

Are you really going back next weekend again? Didn't you just get home?

We are sitting in thunderstorms, melting our little bit of snow, waiting for the ice storm to come and then the snow and wind! Oh yeah we are on the border of a Tornado watch too! Don't you love MI weather!

(Covering myself from all the stuff about to be thrown my way)

But yes we are going back next weekend. We have Annual passes and there's nothing happening at the church next weekend. We have a busy spring and summer and so won't be able to go much if at all this summer. If we don't go next weekend it will likely be September before we are able to go again. And since we live this close, we might as well take advantage.

So throw away. I'll dodge the tomoatos and such from all over the country.

Blessings!

I realized that I made a mistake in my previous story. We only had 3 days left including the last one – not four. I have never been accused of having good math skills. I’ve been accused of many things in my life (I wasn’t always a preacher). But we don’t need to go into that stuff do we?! So, for all of you math whizzes that are there shaking your heads, saying, “Boy, this kid can’t add!” Well you’re right. I took only one class at Florida State of math. They gave us this placement test during our orientation and I miraculously got out of the first level math class that incoming freshman were supposed to take. We were only then required to take one other math course for our entire college career, unless so required by our major. Well, I was a Social Science major. That building was nowhere close to the math building. I never even approached the math building again. I can’t deal with math folks too well. Oh, and to all of you grammar and English major’s (like my wife) I know I make you cringe too. But, let’s face it. I am from South Georgia. We use words like “ain’t” down here. We say things like “y’all” and it is accepted as real English. I have actually preached several times to the church I grew up in and 2 of my former high school English teachers were present. I know they had to be so proud. Plus, Rhonda has to listen to it every Sunday. It’s so sad.

Anyway, after our day at Epcot on Friday, we decided that we would return to the Magic Kingdom on our last full day. It had been the most magical for us on this trip, so maybe it would be a good thing to go back there. By the way, the USA just won the gold in the Men’s snowboarding cross (at least what they showed on NBC). I don’t really know what that is other then a snowboard race. But anyway, I digress. We slept in that morning then headed downstairs. Now this next move is probably going to draw fire from some folks. And in a normal day, we probably wouldn’t make the same decision again. But, since we were going to be at the Magic Kingdom, we decided to change our reservation for dinner. We had planned to be at Epcot today, and were going to eat at Le Cellier. Now that’s a good steak y’all. And apparently everybody knows it, cause it’s booked for like months in advance. We knew that when we went with the Molton’s that we would be eating there, so we cancelled it and went instead with the Crystal Palace buffet. I know, I know – they don’t come close to measuring up. But Wesley wanted to be in the Magic Kingdom all day, and frankly, I think we did too. So, off we go. To the boat. That wonderful boat that means we don’t have to drive anywhere or get on a bus!

Well it was a packed house today. I’m certain there have been bigger crowds and when we go back a week and a half from now, I’m certain that crowd will be HUGE too. But compared to the crowds we'’ been experiencing, this one had it beat. We typically start in tomorrowland and work our way around, but the crowds pushed us elsewhere this day. We started with Pirates of the Caribbean today. Then up through Frontierland. We got Fastpasses for Splash Mountain. But there was a catch. Wesley did not want to get wet. So we bought more ponchos, cause the other ones we’d left in the room. Our justification was that we’d give this new set to the Molton’s as a little gift prior to our trip together. So we rode Splash Mountain, which is a cool ride – I don’t care who you are. Git-r-done!

I don’t remember the exact order of how this all worked. But somehow we also got fastpasses for Big Thunder Mountain, which, next to Rocknroller coaster is my favorite coaster in the park. We then headed toward the Country Bear show. Wesley had not done this and we felt like it was time to expose him to this wonderful Disney classic. When I was a kid, I used to have the album – real LP – the vinyl thing, played on a record player with a needle! I think it’s still at my parents house. Wonder how much I could get for it on ebay…hmmm. Lol. Anyway, I also used to have this big glass mug of Big Al. I thought he was the coolest, though now I’m not really sure why. He sings about blood on the saddle. What is that about, huh? Anyway, that is a neat piece of Disney history, that though I’ve see n it a hundred times, it still makes me smile. And Wesley loved it.

We then got Fastpasses for Peter Pan and I staked out a spot for the parade. Wesley and Rhonda went to go play in the Pooh playground and walk through the Christmas shop. I got to sit and watch people. I love watching people. It’s so entertaining. Now, at Disney, I would probably rather be doing something. But it’s not so bad. I sat for about 45 minutes. The folks next to me were really nice. The husband and I joked about the stuff people wear on their feet. Wesley and Rhonda finally came back about 20 minutes or so before the parade started. Then something happened that just hacks me off.

The parade had already started in Frontierland. We could hear the music. All of a sudden there appeared the front wheel of one of those 3 wheeled strollers pushing its way between me and the people next to me. Now granted, there was a little bit of room there. About enough for her to put the wheel – but that was all. I had been sitting for 45 minutes. The family next to me had been sitting for about 40. And here comes this snotty woman who didn’t think enough of her child to park it for a little bit and reserve a spot for the parade. I never saw her husband, though I heard her talking to him. I gotta be honest. I was hacked. She was doing her best to push her way up to the rope. I didn’t budge. The family next to me didn’t either. So here came pushy woman doing her best to get her daughter up to the rope. Doesn’t that just hack you off? Maybe its just me. Maybe I’m the only one who gets upset when I’ve been waiting to do something – did what it took in order to make it happen – and then someone else comes in at the last minute having done nothing and tries their best to push in on my territory. It turns out it was the daughters birthday. And I guess you can’t always fault the children for the pushy, arrogant, (*&^&^%$ ways of their parents. I felt a little bad for the little girl. She was kinda quiet and shy. And she was standing right next to the cutest little boy in the world. Wesley again caught the eye of several of the characters, only this time not because of Wendy. But every time a character came close to shake Wesley hand, etc. here came momma shouting at the characters “It’s her birthday, it’s her birthday!” I think 2 of the characters may have done something to acknowledge it. Though I felt sorry for the little girl, I was embarrassed for the mother. Please don’t push your way into a space like that. Am I the only one that gets mad when people do that?

We did Philharmagic after that, then Haunted Mansion and Peter Pan. We headed around to the Barnstormer by way of the Pooh ride. At this point we decided to try and get in Crystal Palace a little early. When we got over there, we didn’t think it was going to happen. They were turning walkups away. But they said they would seat us within about 20 minutes. Sweet!

Dinner was fine. It was just average. Nothing really bad, nothing outstanding either.

After dinner we decided to find a place to watch the Spectromagic parade. Which was fun again as usual. What is it about grown adults sitting for long periods of time to watch college students in costumes walk down a street huh? When you think about it, it is a little odd. But dadgummit, we love it don’t we?

After the parade, we headed around to County Bounty because it was time to add up our luck with the Photopass. As I told you earlier, we had read about the $99 CD. For those of you going in the near future, here’s a little advice from me. Remember – you get what you pay for. Disney charges $13 for a 5X7. That’s rather hefty. Going at that price, and I know there are packages, but going with that price, I could order7.615 pictures at that price for what a CD costs. So for $99, yes that’s expensive too, but when you hear how many pictures we had, you’ll understand.

So we go to County Bounty. When we get there, we had a big bonus. All the characters from the little character places were inside County Bounty doing the Hokie Pokie. There weren’t very many people around, and they were just inside dancing. How cool is that? Wesley got to do the Hokie Pokie with Minnie Mouse, Snow White and Princess Aurora. It was really neat. After the song, the kids that were in there got to see the characters and it was cool. When he was talking with Aurora, we mentioned how we have seen him pretending to dance with her at the end of the movie. She thought it was very sweet, and dadgummit it is. So she asked him to dance with her. Surprise! He actually did it. He put out his hand to go behind her back and took her other hand in his. (She was kneeling by the way). And they kinda swayed back and forth to the music. She was very impressed. As were we, cause we didn’t think he actually would do it. Well, someone else came up and so Wesley backed away and bowed to her, which she loved. He then kissed her hand (I am not making this up!) She curtsied. Way too cool! So I went off to buy the CD. Rhonda and Wesley played with the characters. Well, while I was being marveled over by the cast members at the desk because of the number of pictures we had, Rhonda came running up to me saying, “You missed it, you missed it!” I didn’t know what I had missed, but I was already ruing it. She then explained that apparently, after he had left her, Princess Aurora wen to the back (after seeing the other child). When she came back out, she had her handler trying to help her find Wesley. She thought it was so cute that he’d danced with her that she went somewhere and got a handful of pixie dust that she wanted to give him and to give him a big kiss. She gave it to him (he kept it in his hat – and I think we still have it). She talked with him for about 5 minutes, and he actually talked back. Man, and I missed it!

While they were enjoying that magic, I was however feeling very proud of myself. The cast members at the desk were amazed by us. Now, we had been there for 11 days thus far – 10 that we had been using the photopass. But I told you that we planned on riding that photopass train very hard. When we turned in our cards, we discovered that we had 302 photos on the cards. YES! They said they thought that was a record so far. So it took some time for them to burn the CD. But get this. I paid $99 for this CD. That works out to like 32 cents per picture! (Again, I refer you to the top of this post and my math skills) However, I think that’s right. And say we go to the Wal Mart SuperSinner (read the first post and that will explain it). We would pay like 25 cents for a copy of it. So no matter what, with 302 pictures, it’s cheaper no matter what! So I was proud of our ride on the Photopass train.

By this time, it was late and time for the Park to close. The really sad part is that this was our last full day. Boooo hoooo.

More maybe tomorrow.

By the way, here’s a hint about our Wendy. She’s not Wendy anymore. But that’s all I can tell for now…

Hee hee

That is great that you can get away so much! Do you have an assistant pastor who can fill in for you?

We have annual passes too, but being in MI and having children in school, it is not feasible to go too much. Last year we did Spring Break and the week after at WDW and this year we are doing the week before Spring Break + a couple of days in WDW. That way we get 2 trips in one year. I may dread going the week before (actually a week in a half before, have to visit the in-laws too) for all the tests they will miss b4 spring break - oh well.

Isn't it amazing all the things you haven't done yet for as many of times that you have gone? People always ask why we go every year. Part of it is because we are DVC, but it is a great vacation with our kids and we love to take friends with us and share the fun and memories.

A couple of years ago we took our husbands (friend and I) on a surprise trip for a long weekend. We had staked out a spot for over an hour for the parade (eating an ice cream cone, shopping etc) and just before the parade started a family with teenage children came and stood in front of us, on the road. We were standing on the curb, didn't want butt sores yet, the family next to us looked at us "what do they think they are doing?" I politely told the people that we had been "standing there for over an hour so we would have good seats". They looked at me and shrugged their shoulders like "so". Ok we didn't have kids with us this time, but we still wanted to be able to see the parade. The family next to us also made a comment to them and they didn't move. Needless to say when the parade started they had to move b/c they were standing on the road - they were not happy and tried to squeeze in between us - needless to say we spread our feet apart and stood our ground!

We only have 1 month, 6 days until we are there and then we can fantasize about what job we are going to do at WDW when we retire. Last time my husband and his friend decided they were going to play their tubas in one of the little street bands. My friend and I will work in a shop a couple of hours a week. The kids and grandkids can come and visit. Back to MI in the summers though!

First I love your trip report keep up the good work. Nice to see a guy point of view. I noticed in this post you said another free Visa Picture. Have you gotten this Visa perk more than once. Why I ask we got this last fall and it was a wonderful time few characters to yourself and the free picture. We are going again in June and wonder if this can be done again or is it one free picture per card? Thanks

I do not have an associate pastor on staff. We only go away for our typical overnight trips if there's nothing happening at the church. When we went on the big 12 dayer, I had 2 pastors on call in case of emergency.

I usually take Friday and Saturday off - mostly it only turns into a part of the day both days. But get this. Everybody always thinks that some preachers only work for an hour on Sundays. I put in close to 60 hours every week from Sunday to Thursday - and that's not including any middle of the night hospital call outs etc., or anything that happens Friday or Saturday. So I try to protect those two days for family time. And if there is a weekend with nothing going on, we will consider going down there. Now, anyway with the annual passes. We used to just stay home and say, I wish we were at Disney! :)

But since we have the passes our plan is to go down late on Thursday, spend Friday and half a day Saturday, then come home and be ready for Church on Sunday. And with the discounts, it's pretty do-able

Blessings!

I can't believe people would actually think that pastors only work Sunday. Like you, our pastor works way more that a typical 40 hour week. He attends committee meetings most Tuesday evenings and teaches adult bible studies every Thursday night. He preaches twice on Sunday morning and teaches a Sunday School class. Plus all of his regular work during the week. And like you said, that doesn't include hospital trips, weddings, funerals, etc. I have nothing but respect for people who devote their lives to the ministry.

By the way, down here in Texas we use words like ain't and cain't and y'all also!

The pastor I work for is probably on the lower end of hours spent working at about 40...I can't imagine ever thinking a pastor only works for an hour a Sunday. I am the office manager at one church and attend another church because Sunday is my day off and when I do attend here I end up having to do something for somebody.

I thought you might have an associate pastor to get a three day weekend...but great for you to spend that quality time hiding at WDW!!!

Thanks for another great installment. I am really enjoying reading you and your wife's trip reports. I just wish we lived closer so we could go more often like some people here on these trip report boards ;) It is so cold up here in Michigan 9 degrees at the moment, it would be so good to be in warm or cold WDW.

ok, aside from all the UF jabs - cute report.
We all know that all you need to get in to FSU is a heartbeat and a C average anyway! :)

Just had to let you know that I printed out both Husband and Wife versions of the "Whirlwinders" and brought them to the gym. 50 minutes on the ellipical machine flew by while I lived a Disney vacation through your family!

I completed the Wife version and will finish up the Husband version tomorrow!

Thanks to both of you for sharing with us!

We too had a wonderful time with Wendy. Our dd was TOO short to ride BTMR & SM.

She spent the time getting in line again, & again & again just so she could see her Wendy!

Thanks for reminding me of the magic! :thumbsup2

Here's a picture of Wesley and our Wendy. I'm still trying to figure out how much I can tell. I promise to give some details, but we'll see. Hope everyone goes to church somewhere tomorrow!

Great reports! I have been reading from the beginning.. and have been loving everything you have to say... AND I have to tell you.. if you were a giving sermons here in my neighborhood.. I would covert and join your church.. Because if your sermons are anything like your reports.. you must be one heck of a leader! :)

Thanks for the tip about the one free photo per card per day thing.. It never dawned on me that you could do that... I mean.. it makes perfect sense! DUH!... Oh.. and silly me.. I have yet to remember to get this picture whenever I have been down in the past year!! Ummm.. and that would be 3 times :)... I swear.. I mean.. not swear.. I promise.. yeah.. that's it... I Promise that i will make sure I catch up my next trip... Yeah.. I am going back... in May... and August... :) Almost as many trips as you guys!!

I will be taking my almost 3 year old nephew with me for the first time in August.. who Wesley reminds me of actually... Any tips or advice for me? I usually travel solo.. so I can tell adults what to do.. but I want to make sure I don't miss out on toddler stuff.. I don't have all the insider stuff on the disney toddler thrills...

Thanks!
Kathy

Here's a few pictures...

First one is me and Wesley and the Mayor - what a cake job! I want it!

Now this one is for the guy asking for pictures of hotties, er... um... Princesses.

Now, of me and Wesley in front of the Exposition Hall...

Last one is the picture of Wesley from when he was pouting about taking a nap, and then fell asleep.

Blessings,
Mark
