The Whimsical Spirit of the Conch Republic - Dining Review (updtd 9/6 x3)

I know what you mean. The South does have some pretty awesome comfort food. We live in South Carolina and we have this restaurant called the Lizard's Thicket. Best southern comfort food EVER !! I have nicknamed it the "Thicker". because it makes you thicker to eat there. But ohmigod, so yummy !!

My college room mate was from Irmo South Carolina - and that is where she worked in high school. I remember her talking about it all the time - and I had no idea as to what it was!!

Loving your dining report - and have a fabulous trip!

We had some CS credits to burn. So we went to Fairfax Fare to get some breakfast grub.

DSC03818.jpg

We have discovered that this place has some decent breakfast food. A CS credit will get you a breakfast sandwich and a drink or one pastry with fruit or yogurt and a drink. So we got two breakfast sandwiches and a cinnamon roll with some yogurt.

Cinnamon roll

The kids shared this.

Breakfast sandwich. English muffin, eggs, cheese and bacon (yogurt in the background)

I got the breakfast sandwich too, but mine had sausage in it. DS ate my sausage patties.

DSC03816.jpg

They were pretty good and filled you up. We would eat here for breakfast again for sure.

It was a warm day that day, so I stopped and got a snack.

I got a lemon slushie.

DSC03854.jpg

It sure could have used some vodka. :rotfl:

I love me a lemon slushie when it is hot out !!

When we were ready for lunch, we walked over to the ABC Commissary, but there wasn’t anything thing there that the kids wanted to eat, so we just went over to Backlot Express.

We had two CS credits left.

The kids split Chicken and French fries. Big shock there.

DSC03864.jpg

DH and I split the turkey Panini.

DSC03866.jpg

This was just my half, so plenty of food for two.

We got caramel cheesecake for dessert

DSC03865.jpg

It was pretty good. DD loved it !!

We had one snack credit left and DD HAD to have some popcorn, so DH went to get her that.

I took some photos.

And we sadly made our way out of the park and back to the car.

So, this is the last post, Folks !! We leave tomorrow for another trip and I promise to take lots of food photos and start a Dining Report when we get back.

Thanks so much for reading and a special shout out to those of you that stopped in to say hello !!

If you do, please don't be shy !! Come up and say hello !! I will be the one in a huge black boot on a scooter !! :moped:

Lol, must be the scooter year! I have bone spurs on my ankle, that are tearing my achilles tendon. "Shredding it", as the orthopedist said. When he described the surgery and that I would be 12+ weeks non weight bearing, I said, "Um, no thanks". He told me I would call him when the pain got so bad I couldn't walk. :worried: I have almost called him a few times after working my 12 hour shifts. But so far, I have been able to fight it off with tylenol and rest. ;)

I will not even attempt to walk through WDW however. :scared1:

Fairfax Faire looks like a great choice for breakfast!! I think my daughter and I could easily get full sharing a sandwich and my grandmunchkins love cinnamon buns!!! Thanks!

That does sound painful, Probably as painful as mine is :rotfl: Seriously, though, my surgery will be the three months non-weight bearing. And I dread it with every fiber of my being. But I know, in the end, I will get an ankle that works and not this lump of useless flesh I have now. But you NEED your Achilles and you DO NOT want it to be shredded because you will be disabled forever if that happens and not just three months. So ... something for you to consider for sure.

I LOVE how you call them grandmunchkins !!! Too cute !!

Wow, I posted as you were updating your report!! Have a wonderful and safe trip!! I'll be on scooter look out!! :lmao:

Please do !! I would love to meet you !! I am chubby, have blond hair (will be in a ponytail) and I will have a pink or khaki Mickey visor on. Not to mention the black boot of torture and the scooter.

We can have scooter a race down Main Street !!! :moped: LOL !!! :rotfl::rotfl2:

Being a server I can tell you that lots of people will sit and eat and act like their kid is not crying or throwing a fit while the whole restaraunt is in agony..I hate parents that do that, I always would take the child either to the bathroom or outside and calm them down if they were ready I would bring them back or wait in the car until the rest of my group was done..

Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern

DSC03764.jpg

Here’s the menu.

Patriot's Platter - Roasted turkey breast, carved beef, and sliced pork, with traditional accompaniments, seasonal vegetables, mixed greens with house-made dressing, and house-made apple craisins cake with ice cream.

So we got our buzzer and waited about 10 minutes and they called us in.

DSC03765.jpg

We were seated in the back corner and DS took these photos of the things on the window sill.

A couple stories about this meal.

First of all there was a table next to us that had a very fussy baby. And they were just sitting there trying to distract it instead of just getting up and taking it outside. There were six people at the table, so someone could have easily done this while the others stayed to settle up the check (there were just getting finished thank goodness). I will never understand people that do this, but thankfully we only had to put up with it for about 15 minutes. But it was a long 15 minutes. It was so nice and quiet after they left. Seriously, I felt like standing and clapping as they left. I am not saying my kids didn’t get fussy when they were babies, they did. But we were always considerate and left when they did get fussy. To tell the truth, we just didn’t go out much when they were younger.

Another thing that we found interesting was this man that looked exactly like Santa Claus. I even snuck a picture of him.

DSC03770.jpg

I would expect to see something like this at Christmas. But in the middle of June ?? We found it interesting.

Anyway, on to the food photos.

We very much enjoyed this meal and would go back again. Everyone got plenty to eat and even the kids ate well. No complaints.

This same thing happened to us a Whispering Canyon Cafe about a year or so ago. There was this baby - about 2, maybe a bit younger at the table next to us. There were EIGHT adults and this one baby. This kid was screaming her head off. No just being a little fussy. Full on screaming and the whole group just sat and ignored her for about 15 minutes. Just as I was about to get up and say something to them, a gentleman from the table on the other side of them did. And he wasn't as nice as I would have been. He really let them have it for just letting their kid sit there and scream. After that, they took turns carrying her around the WL lobby where she continued to scream until they left.

Why do some parents push their kids to the limit like that? They are tired, take them back and put them to bed. Get your food to go and just go back to your room. Yes, it sucks to have to do that and yes, you miss out, but seriously, be a decent human being.

Your sandwich at Fairfax looks better than McDonalds so I'm sure I'd like it! :rotfl:
The bread on that turkey panini looks really good!

Hope you have a wonderful trip! I'd tell you to take it easy but I guess you don't have much choice!

Those breakfast sandwiches were surprisingly good. And I had TWO large sausage patties on mine, so if you aren't super hungry, you could easily split them. I would definitely go there again for breakfast.

Yes !! The turkey panini was very tasty. Better that the burger or chicken fingers. A nice change up anyway.

Thanks !! I know I will encounter some obstacles, but being on a scooter in Disney is better than being on crutches here !!

Hope to see you on my new DR when I get back !!

I will look for you and would love to have a race!! I am chubby also, have dark brown hair and will be wearing a pink or red hat. no Mickey however. :lmao: I couldn't wear the 'black boot of torture' however, as the ortho said it was making my spurs worse, instead of better? I hated that thing as it made me walk and limp even more than without it!!

I hope we meet!! And have a wonderful time! My friend was in a scooter last time, and guess what? You get to go through the handicapped line at Peter Pan!! I didn't know how I would stand in that long line this time! oy!

It amazes me the audacity and sense of entitlement some people have! I bet many of these people would be the first to complain if someone elses child were the one running through the restaurant or screaming! Grrrr!

Fairfax fair looks like a good breakfast option. And since DHS is lacking on those thats good to know!! Must make a note of it!

We were surprised by it, too. It must be new because only one CM was really familiar with what was included in the CS credits.
