You guys sure have been on it!

Make sure you schedule some time to rest!

I don't know if it's the exact site you pinned, but it's the same recipe! It's risen beautifully and I cannot wait to try it!

How did you store your loaves? I have two, and we of course won't finish both of them.

Also, it's been in the 70's and even a few 80's here. :scared1:

Well, we have frozen the loaves, and that works really well! It never lasts long enough to get freezer burn, so I think that's what we'll continue to do.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

No idea what we're eating today. I think I'll let Alan decide!

I just wanted to take a minute to tell you about some neighbors of ours. They have 5 children, and 2 of their daughters have been diagnosed with Leaky SCID. This is the "bubble boy" disease, for any of you that remember that movie with John Travolta. Only 2 cases are ever diagnosed per year in the United States!

The 2 girls are undergoing bone marrow transplants now, and it's really been intense! They had to go through chemo therapy to kill everything off, and then the transplants. The older daughter (8) found a perfect match in her little brother. And a stranger tested a perfect match for the little one.

After the transplants, they have to be quarantined for an entire year. No one in or out of their house. The father had to give up his job, and they had to undergo training on how to keep absolutely EVERYTHING in their house sterilized. It's quite a thing! Worst of all, the father lost his job, and they are now broke. Our church did a silent auction/fundraiser to help them out. It was really something to see an entire community come together to help support this family. At the end of the evening, over $86,000 was raised to help them out.

It's been such an emotional thing for our entire community, I wanted to share with my "family." I'm posting a link to a Youtube video that the father put together to explain and say thank you to everyone. If you've got 10 minutes, it's definitely worth a watch!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbUXFqd1v0M&feature=youtu.be

Even if you don't watch the video, if you could add the Fish family to your prayers/good thoughts, I know they'd be appreciative.

Wow.

I was tear-free until the scene where they were combing the little one's hair after chemo and her hair was falling out.

Sending many many good thoughts to them. :sad1:

Well that just sort of "happens", I can't wake Fran up and it's 10AM. I think this will be another "not out of bed before noon" days.

Glynis that is such a heartbreaking story. There is no way I could watch that video, not only would I be in tears, but I would be haunted for weeks. Prayers to them.

I'm in love with the English Muffin loaf bread Glynis!!!

Good morning everybody.

PIO ~ Autumn :scared1: already. I can't believe it. Your crop looks so great. I can't wait to have some garden fresh vegetables.

Brandi ~ thanks so much for the potato soup recipe. That is the one soup Doug likes and I am always trying to find "the one". I can't wait to try it. Thanks
Sorry to hear about your Uncle. :hug: Prayers for comfort.

Glynis ~ Congrats to Jacob. What an accomplishment. You should be so proud.
Prayers to your friends. Wow, makes you really appreciate what you have.

Jen ~ Sorry to hear about your Uncle. I am so sorry!! :hug:
I love your food porn. Your pictures are so good.

Alison ~ oh sweetie please slow down and take care of "YOU". You won't be any good to Fran if you get sick. I love your idea a container gardening. I would love to see a few pictures.

We had such a busy weekend but a fun one...........

We took Ethan to the IMAX Theater in Hastings this Saturday. Oh my goodness we had a ball. We spent from 1:00 - 5:30 at the museum, saw 2 Planaterium (sp) shows, Sea Creatures 3D and touched EVERYTHING we would in the museum. When we left I asked him where he wanted to eat and the little scoot didn't skip a beat and said - Red Lobster - I want lobster. So that is where we went. He ate every bit and most of Doug's shrimp and my scallops. I don't know where he put it and then wanted Chocolate cake. We shared the cake. We all left fully satisfied.

Yesterday he had a wrestling match so as soon as church was over we headed to watch. He got 2nd place again. He also placed 2nd on friday night. Then Stephanie and I made Runzas/cabbage rolls yesterday. We are trying to get some things made up and in the freezer for when the baby comes. I had put a roast in the crockpot and after they left we went to Doug's Dads. He should be set for the week - roast, chicken noodle soup and cabbage rolls.

I have got to get my taxes together tonight. We have an appointment tomorrow but I am going to cancel it for next week. I have played way to much and now I am not ready.

WFDT ~ Meatloaf, baked potatoes and green bean casserole.

Make it a great day everyone.

It is a glorious day here!!! The sun is shining, and the temps are supposed to be in the low 60's!!! Hooray!!!

I'm making bread, right now. My family have fallen in love with the 7-grain bread and the English muffin toasting bread, so I'm trying to keep ahead of demand!

Dinner tonight will be broccoli-cheddar soup. We got a couple of gorgeous heads of broccoli in our basket on Saturday, and I started craving soup!

Ellen - I am proud of Jacob! As of right now, he has 4 badges, he'll get at least 3 more at the next court of honor, and probably more, as he's working on a few on his own. He needs 21 to get his Eagle (and his project, of course), so he's well on his way. However, the thing that makes me the most proud, is that he told me he's going to make sure that his cousin (who is severely autistic) gets his Eagle at the same time. :love:

Sounds like you all had a lot of fun!!!

:hug:

Ellen - That sounds like a nice fun weekend. Hopefully I'll have one of those someday soon. :rolleyes:

Glynis - How wonderful for Jacob and that he is so thoughtful of his cousin, that's just sweet!

Brandi - I hope your DH assembles those enchiladas! That's a lot of work for after your first day back!

WFD? Sandwiches! I just decided that I'm having a turkey club and Cole slaw. Fran can have that it another open faced hot turkey sandwich, but I need to use up some of the turkey I cooked on Saturday since we still don't have a new freezer. I think the next three days will involve turkey in one way or another!

I hate to be a burden, or a "doom and gloom" kind of gal, but I could sure use the power of our prayer bunch.

My close friend and neighbor's family is going through a really rough time. About 4 years ago, their second oldest son committed suicide in their home. Youngest son (12 at the time) found him. It was a horrible time for them all, but they got through it. Then, 9 months later, their oldest son was killed in a car accident. Again, a horrible time, but they got through it. It was much harder on them.

Last night, we heard sirens in the neighborhood, and Alan saw an ambulance pulling up outside their house. We just found out that their youngest son tried to kill himself last night. His girlfriend broke up with him, and he took handfuls of pills. Then, he texted his girlfriend to tell her what he'd done. She and her father hurried to my friend's home, and told them what was going on. By the time they got to Adam's room, he was non-responsive. He was taken to the hospital, where he is still in critical condition today.

I'm really terrified of what this will do to Connie, if Adam doesn't make it. Please, if you've got the time, add Connie, John and Adam Romney to your prayers.

Thanks!

O Glynis no parents should have to go through that my prayers are with them.:hug:

And how nice that you're getting some meals ready for when the new baby comes.

Oy. Taxes.

Jacob must have learned that kindness from his wonderful mother. :lovestruc

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, 4 more days till Spring Break! :cool1:
Today was uber-busy at work and then I went grocery shopping. Got all of my grocery shopping done for the next two weeks, including for all of Spring Break.
Big C's birthday is next week too, and he'll be helping me make a cake.
The only thing I couldn't find today was short ribs. I have never had nor made short ribs. So, don't think I'm dumb when I ask this question but...what are short ribs? Beef or pork?
I saw something called "beef back ribs". Are those the same thing. :lmao:
Help foodies!!!
Good morning everyone.....
Hope everyone has a beautiful day today.
I know most of you remember that I lost My uncle and then David's uncle in the fall, and now my last living uncle has passed.
All I have left is my Dad, and my Aunt (Dad's Sister) and David has his Mom and his Aunt (mom's sister).
I know that David and I have jokingly called our trip in the upcoming fall, "our staying in the will trip" but this just makes me feel so urgent to go see our family.
I am so sorry :hug: I love your humor, I think that when you suffer losses it is a good way to keep your sanity
I just wanted to take a minute to tell you about some neighbors of ours.
Even if you don't watch the video, if you could add the Fish family to your prayers/good thoughts, I know they'd be appreciative.
Oh my goodness :sad1: I did not watch the video, I would be a mess the rest of the evening. I have always been so amazed at the strength of parents of kids who are so sick. The kids are valiant and their courage is humbling but their parents :sad1:Of course this family is in my prayers.
I also saw your latest post. No parent should ever endure such grief. I am so sorry :sad1::sad1:
Glynis- please do not ever feel badly asking for prayers for your friends. I believe that prayer circles are powerful and reaching out for one more is never an imposition. :grouphug: I think it is a privilege to be able to ask for God's Grace.
He is one hungry Tiger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes I love that "little scoot"
:goodvibes
That baby has got be be coming very soon You have got to be so impatient!
Jen- I love your food porn! I am avoiding that good food so I need my carb fix and the pics are the next best thing!
Allison- STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to wear yourself out, please slow down!
I know I missed a lot but I give up.
I have lost 7 pounds so I am feeling pretty good about my carb avoidance. I miss my bread and potatoes and rice and cereal and cake and brownies and cookies and ice cream and chocolate..................you see how I got here?????:rotfl2:
Dinner was a ham steak, steamed broccoli, and a stirfry of zucchini, mixed bell peppers, onions. A huge mixed green salad too.
Nan~ You go girl!!!
I may die without carbs. But, that's just me.
I'll post as much porn as ya' want girlfriend!
Short ribs are beef. They are short stubby ribs about 2 inches in cubes. They have a lot of fat and connective tissue and the bones make up a very small part of the meat and fat. They should be slowly braised for 2-3 hours. When properly cooked, they are creamy and yummy and tender to eat. I have several recipies that I used to cook them that are all tasty. I try to buy them when they are on sale for about $1.99lb.
Beef back ribs are a whole 'nother animal! The only success I have had with cooking them is when I take the bones off the bottom of my prime rib and freeze them. Eventually I finish cooking them on the BBQ in sauce. They also need to be slow cooked prior to a sear or so on the BBQ.
I'm doing my best, and I'm hoping to get a massage in the next week or two. Congrats on your weight loss. Cutting out the carbs will do it every time! I can't deal with that kind of diet right now since we have all the "stuff" going on. Now that we have two apartments rented and the third one is in rennovations, we have a break. Hopefully the gardening will actually give me some peace, and once the last one rented, I can rest some!
I am totally on a hunt for short ribs tomorrow. Thanks Alison!
Jen - Short ribs are the most delectable things on the planet! I had never cooked them, or even heard of them, until I started checking out Pioneer Woman. Just a couple of weeks ago, I made her recipe for short ribs in tomato sauce. It was possibly the most incredible meal I've ever made! Seriously! They cooked for an incredibly long time and were tender and melt in your mouth yummy!!! Check out her recipe. You won't regret it!
Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. We're still waiting on word from the Romney family. Adam was still in critical condition when last I heard. No parent should have to endure the death of one child... I don't know how any mother could endure the deaths of 3! I'll keep you all posted! When I first heard the news, I immediately thought of you all! You've been so strong in prayer for me in the past, and I've seen the power that this group has. I can't thank you enough for being so strong!
