The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Janice- I sympathize the headache, I had one for three days and was miserable!

Kat- are you better now? I think it would be better if you had more of a voice. You knew what was best for your own Mother and would advocate for Johnny's as fiercely.

I am just laid back with the fire roaring behind me. We have a glass of wine and will eat in a little while. I have been DIS'ing on and off all day!

I just want to update you all on Buddy. So far the Dr's have ruled out all kinds of nasty ailments and that is good. He is not in anywhere as much pain as he was. Th neurosurgeon said that he really thinks Bud managed to traumatize a nerve and that it was just causing him that much pain every time he "hit" it. I don't know if that really is what it was but he is slowly getting better. We are both thankful that the Dr's were so proactive when the tumors showed up and are thankful that they are not causing this. No cancer either. We are blessed, cancer has taken most of his Dad's family so we are sensitive about it. Buddy gets uncomfortable when people are worrying about him, he is not used to being the center of anyone's attention, but I have to tell you all that I believe in the power of prayers and know that the circle here with all of you was the difference in his being in pain and getting better and what could have happened. :grouphug: Thank you :grouphug:

Nan - That is great news on Buddy. This circle of women is a powerful one when we start our praying. Hugs to you & Buddy.

Nancy I am glad that Buddy is getting better and that thank go it is nothing serious. I know that had to have been on his mind. I know it would have been on mine. I know all to well how he feels I like to be the go 0to person not the take care of me person

Take care. I am sure this headache is just because of the approaching weather system. My body is like a radar. Every ache and pain comes out :rotfl2:

Sandy, I second the recipezaar suggestion, or else epicurious. I don't have an empanada recipe...one of my cooking weaknesses is having to roll out dough. I can't do it right!

Nancy, I am glad Buddy is getting better.

Ellen, I am so sorry about your horse.

Here is dinner. Turkey keilbasa, pierogies (not homemade! from the freezer section of the store) with onion sauce and sour cream, applesauce, and sauerkraut baked with carrot, onion, and bacon.

Ellen - Would you like to share a pic of your sweet Sandy with us?

I would love to. She was a beautiful quarter. But girls - you know me. I have no idea how to post a picture. I got a new I touch for
Christmas and I am slowly learning what to do with it. :lmao: My New Year's resolution is to figure out how to post pictures. So be patient with me and I will post a picture when I can figure it all out. :goodvibes

I've had a headache on and off today so I am going to take it easy.

Ellen I am sorry to hear about the untimely death of your Sandy. :hug:Sometimes you don't know how much you will miss someone until they are gone.

I hope you start feeling better soon. Headache are the pits.

Thanks I totally agree.

And the crowd said "AMEN" My friend, you are so welcome, but we are getting the better deal by having you for a friend. :goodvibes Prayers continue for both you and Buddy.

Thank you!! Becky, your dinner looks amazing. If I could just lick the screen and taste it like a scratch and sniff, I would be a happy girl. :rotfl2:

Well we are back from getting our H1N1 shots. In and out in 5 minutes and there was no charge either. Have you all gotten yours?

I hear you on this one. I know I am!! How are you feeling? Did you ever hear from the doctor?

I did - no sign of obstruction but lots of narrowing due to inflammation. That was just what a nurse read from the notes on my chart, I haven't talked to him since the test. I need to call tomorrow...

Good news!!

I got mine right before our trip. I'm not much on vaccinations but due to my current health status, and that my dad is overseeing all the clinics, I figured it was worth it this time. Mine was a piece of cake, too!

Ellen, you made me chuckle with the "crowd said AMEN." My parents got theirs yesterday at Walgreens and DH goes on Friday. DS & I have had ours. DD has appointments for reg flu and H1N1 in January. My girl is six months this week, can you all believe that?

Nan, so glad Bubby is better.

Ellen, the picture thing frustrates me too. I have been trying to post pics on facebook from our wedding. It decides to take some but not others. They are not our professional ones but some are on FB if anyone is interested.

I need to get the store nothing in the house for supper. I am craving some beef!!!!

Good snowy morning! It has been snowing here non-stop since yesterday morning at 10:00. The roads are really bad, here! I'd love nothing better than to stay home in my jammies today, but we really need groceries in a bad way! Luckily, Alan's car has 4-wheel drive, so he and I will leave the kids home, and go do our errands. I think Target is calling to me with their 70% off Christmas stuff.

We ended up not having the tuna casserole last night. I was craving Chinese, so we ordered takeout, and Alan braved the elements to get it. We had an indoor picnic and ate Chinese while playing Toy Story Mania on the Wii. It ended up being a pretty fun night! We were going to end the night by watching one of the DVD's Santa brought us, but the machine wouldn't play. There is something wrong with it, and it makes me angry! It's only about 1 month old! Alan is dealing with the company, now. I have a feeling they will try to offer us a new machine, and Alan will tell them we just want our money back (the current machine that doesn't work, was a replacement for another machine that quit working after a month. Anyone sense a pattern, here?).

I think we'll go ahead and have the tuna casserole tonight. It will be warm and comforting.

We are having company come tomorrow and they will stay through the 2nd of January. It should be fun! I really need to pick up some nibbles to have for NYE, though. We are going to do fondue, and have crackers, cheese, chips, dips, cookies, etc.

Well, I'd better go muster the troops and get the house company ready again! I'll BBL to check in with y'all!

Quick check in.

Ann and Ellen - I feel you on the photos. I took one of my gift this morning with my cell phone thinking I could upload it to facebook. No such luck. I'm technologically challenged.

Dinner tonight is BBQ sandwiches (pork for those of you who live in the heathen areas where BBQ can be beef ;) ) with coleslaw and chips.

hey friends - checking in from the infusion center. i am having health ins woes. our co dropped us (due to church politics) and choosing our new plan has caused som headaches so we dont have any cards or info or anything come fri when our current coverage ends. i am told we do have coverage beginning on fri but nothing to show for it. thankfully my gi is working me in tomorrow morning! and i know my hematologist takes the new provider so i need to call the gi back and see if they and my other docs do, too. what a mess!!

I just got word that our good friend and neighbor, Richard Loser, passed away last night from gall bladder cancer. He's been fighting this disease for over a year. He was diagnosed in October 2008 and given 2 months to live. He surprised the doctors and made it a year!

He was able to spend this Christmas surrounded by his family, and even a brand new grandson, who he was able to hold. His family is surrounded by people who love them, and for that I'm glad. I'm just so grateful that he is finally out of pain, and at peace.

I'll be helping out with food for the family after the funeral. It's not a fun job, but it's nice to be able to help out.

AImee- I hope it all works out quickly gor you!

Glynis- I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your dear friend

Ann – I can’t believe Emma is 6 mos already!!!!:goodvibes

Glynis – Stay safe out in that nasty weather! I’ll keep Richard’s family in my prayers.

Ann, Ellen & Gretchen – count me in the tech challenged group.:rolleyes1

Aimee – Good luck getting the insurance sorted out. I hate dealing with it.

Nan, I'm thrilled that Buddy is feeling better.

Glynis, I'm sorry for your loss.

Janice, feel better.

Aimee, hope you worked everything out~

Dinner is take out.

Hi Everyone,

I'm taking a break from baking. Caili and I have been at it since late this morning, and so far, we've made Russian teacakes, Hershey kiss peanut butter cookies, snickerdoodles, oatmeal butterscotch cookies, and sugar cookies. I'll take a picture once everything is done.

Dinner is going to be burgers. I don't usually cook them inside, but since it is really really cold out there, I'll make an exception.

Maria -- I'm glad Emily made it to Chicago safely. What a wonderful adventure for her!

Kathy -- Thanks for posting your food photos. I hope you're feeling better.

Flying Fish is one of only 2-3 signature spots we haven't tried yet and need to.

I would definitely recommend Flying Fish. We've been there a couple of times, and it has always been very good. I thought the food this time was delicious. Good luck getting all of your insurance worked out. I hope it is as smooth as possible.

Gretchen -- I'm glad your mom has decided to put things in someone else's hands. Sometimes you need someone from outside the situation to be able to see it clearly and find a solution. I hope that works out for your family.

Ann -- I hope you get your Poly vacation this time!

I have Le Cellier booked for our next trip.

Our last experience there was awful too. The service was terrible.

Nancy -- I'm so glad to hear that Buddy is doing better and all the news from the doctor has been good.

Well we are back from getting our H1N1 shots. In and out in 5 minutes and there was no charge either. Have you all gotten yours?

Liam can't get it because of his egg allergy, and we missed the clinic here for Caili when we were in Disney. That said, I think we already had it. Caili and I did both get our seasonal flu shots.

Glynis -- I am sorry about the loss of your friend. It is so nice of you to help out, especially since you already have so much to do getting your house ready for guests and your New Year's plans.

What a dern mess you have to deal with. Switching Ins. Companies is no fun, expecially when you are one who needs it so badly. Good luck!!

Ann ~ I can't believe you little princess is 6 months already. My where does the time go.

Gretchen, Ann & Kat ~ If I ever figure it out I will help you all out. I WILL get it - I promise. :rotfl2:

My Huskers play in the Holiday Bowl tonight against Arizona. It should be a great game. I hope we win - we are picked to win but who knows!!

So with that in mind dinner tonight will be game food - bacon wrapped shrimp, cheese sticks, stuffed mushrooms, chips, dips, sausage w/cucumbers, shrimp dip w/crackers and lots of christmas cookies and candies.

New Years day will be beef stew and home made bread. And get what you want when you want. I will put it all in the crock pot and my duties are finished.

GO BIG RED!!!

Hey y'all,

Glynis, I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. It's good that he was able to be surrounded by his family.

Janice, I hope you start feeling better soon! All that snow & a feeling rotten, must be miserable.

Aimee, I hope the infusion helps you feel better. Insurance....sucks!

Maria, What a wonderful experience this is going to be for Emily!

Ellen, I know you can figure out the Itouch! I've learned to work my Iphone & I know you are smarter than I am. :goodvibes

Nancy, You don't know how happy I am to hear that Buddy is fine! :yay: (Well not fine but you know what I mean, he's not really ill.) Glad that the pain has improved also! I too believe that he surrounded by prayer and since he doesn't want people to worry, what he doesn't know won't hurt him! ;)

Last night was good! Turning 40 ;) ain't half bad, when you have a dozen perfect raw oysters, followed by charbroiled oysters & a lobster salad! All washed down with champagne! Plus all of the warm wishes & friends like y'all!

I also got some GREAT gifts! DD gave me a lampe berger, something I've been wanting but wouldn't spend the money on. DH gave me an Amazon gift certf. so I can get some Kindle books plus a bottle of my fav champagne. DM really surprised me with a great gift too ( I would expect a snuggie from her) she gave me John Besh's book " My New Orleans" !!! I was so thrilled, it's has tons of good recipes along with beautiful pics & his stories!

Tonight we are going to a Hornets (basketball) game. The tickets were a Christmas gift from DD & SIL. Dinner will prime rib sandwiches before we head out to the game.
