The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

She's a teenager. I wouldn't let that get you too upset. I need to make an appointment for my hair too.
.

True, but a teenager who is due in 7 weeks & may be carrying our daughter.

Janice my cousin & niece are in Chicago today. Linda (Emily's Mom) just couldn't commit to an apartment online so a real estate agent was showing them 14 places today. Some in the original building, but all in the LOOP;)

Glynis, safe travels tomorrow. I know your traveling tomorrow and we are having snow, hope it's not headed that way.

Aimee, enjoy your party tonight.

Greg is better but still feeling "rough".

Lauri, loved getting rid of the gray today.

Not sure why my ticker says I'm leaving tomorrow...We leave Monday!!!! Let the laundry begin. Am I the only one that can't leave any dirty laundry before vacation?

Dinner tonight looks like pizza.

If you can spare an extra prayer again :sad2: I have to go Mon. to Dr to see if chest xray is clear so I can have this cyst removed on Wed. Pray its clear.
Sorry if I missed anyone :grouphug: to all Have a good night BBL

Prayers are being said my friend

Hi, everyone. This is a quick pop in between packing, laundry, and decorating.

Things here are good, but hectic. I'm trying to get everything done before I leave my family for a few days! It's so cold here, though, all I want to do is snuggle in front of the fire!

I have no idea what's for dinner. My brother and father will be in town, so we may do something with them before we all head for the airport, but who knows. We always have mac and cheese in the house, as well as chili, etc., so we can do stuff like that, in a pinch.

I won't be back until Thursday night, so I won't be posting until Friday. I hope you all have a great week, and have lots of yummy food! I'll be looking for pictures and recipes when I get back.

Save travels to you and your Dad. Have a great time!

Maria ~ Sweetie you are always in my prayers and I am holding you very very close {{{Maria}}}

Aimee ~ Enjoy your party tonight

Vickie ~ Congratulations to Colin. Sometimes 6 months can turn into full time.

Ann ~ Good luck to Ron on Monday. I so hope you guys are happy with his new job.

Janice ~ you are NOT old - good grief!! :lmao:

Sheryl ~ warm up my friend - it's going to be a l o n g winter. ;)

We are on our way to Elizabeth's and Jay's for a Football party. We play Texas tonight for the Big 12 Championship. We probably won't win but you never know. I always say - "any team on any given day can be beaten." We have nothing to lose and they have a lot to lose. So we shall see. I love my Huskers like you all love your Saints, or Pats or even your Boyes. I so hope we just don't look bad. Our defense is one of the best in the nation so if our offense is on tonight as well as the defense it could be a very good game. So with that being said - GO BIG RED!!

I am taking a meat and cheese tray and smokies (Jay's request). There will be probably 20+ friends and family and we are all to bring something so we won't starve.

Have a great evening everyone!!

I actually ENJOYED it today !!

Ellen Today I feel very old. It is amazing what a half hour nap will do. AHH football food how I love that stuff. It doesn't look good on the hips and the backside:rolleyes1

I am now doing laundry. Less to do tomorrow. I signed up for a class, don't laugh now, to learn how to install a programable thermostat. It is tomorrow afternoon at a local home improvement store.

We are having tilipia sauted snap peas and salad.

Maria Just in case I miss you before Monday have a great and relaxing time. It is easy for us to say try not to think about Cameron, but give it to God. It is something I have to do now and again. He knows what is right for you and Greg.

Got some shopping to do today and the Saints game to watch so we're going to grill some ribs later and I'll also fix baked beans and a pasta salad.

Ellen - That was a close game, y'all should be very proud!!!!

Maria - I'm hoping for the most magical trip ever for you!!!!

WHO DAT! GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!

Hi....I've been really bad about checking in on this thread! :scared:

My family came for Thanksgiving and it was rough. The (very) short version is my brother was rude and nasty the entire time, my mom didn't trust me that I knew where anything was (she would ask someone else the same question she'd asked me - in front of me), and nobody could seem to figure out what the plans were, even after they were made. "Oh, I thought we were doing this" (said with intent to change the plans that had been made). :headache:

The crazy thing is that my brother mentioned coming back in spring, when he appeared to hate everything about here (Why is the streetcar so old? Why does the street curve? Why is this not rebuilt yet? What's so special about Cafe du Monde - they don't taste all that great?) I think I will be OUT OF TOWN whenever it is that he decides to visit again! :rolleyes1

I'd like to say it didn't bother me, but it left me feeling pretty rotten for the rest of last week. Then on top of all that, my medical insurance has (so they say "temporarily pending more paperwork") denied about $700 in basic office visits, due to "pre-existing conditions." Thing is, I don't HAVE any pre-existing conditions, except by their definition, which is something to the effect of "if you've had it before, it's pre-existing". So this sinus headache I have? Since I had one in 2005, it won't be covered now. I've had one before. Migraine? I had one before. Flu? Had it. Pap smear? Not covered - I've had one before. The guy on the phone told me straight out (and he was rude no less) that basically everything would be denied for a year. Curiously, everybody else at work that has gone to the doctor has had everything covered with no issues. :confused3

HOWEVER - from a little research, I think what they're doing is actually illegal because I had no lapse in health insurance.

Between the rotten visit and the insurance battles, I at one point actually wondered why I left NYC. Then (perfect timing) got a phone call from a teacher at the other school with some current stories of the nonsense that continues at the other school and that silly little thought made a quick exit!

As for WFD - I'm making an attempt to not eat fast food this month (at the MOST once a week) or frozen pizza. I suspect I'll be begging for food ideas sometime within the next few days! :rotfl2::lmao:

My mom told me I shouldn't eat any dairy or meat until I lose some weight. :headache: So yeah, I'm fat, stupid, can't be trusted, and live in a place where things happen that my brother "has never seen in the developed world." :headache: I'm glad they went home. :rolleyes1

I would never laugh. I am TOTALLY impressed that you take on these things. I admire you more than you will ever know.

I hear you on the football food, but it is sooooo good.

Ellen - That was a close game, y'all should be very proud!!!!

WHO DAT! GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words Kat, but it was NOT a pretty picture at the end of the game. :rolleyes1 You are so right though - we did VERY good and as far as I am concerned we looked a lot better than Texas did last night. We have nothing to hang our head about.

WHO DAT! GEAUX SAINTS!!!!! I will be SO watching the game today and cheering all the way from Nebraska!

Got to go get ready for church I will BBL. I have no idea what dinner is tonight yet - I'll let you know when I know. :rotfl:

I saw the ending to that game. It was painful, and I am not a fan of either team.

Did you see the FL-AL game where the girl and boy were throwing for the scholarship money? That was great!

Bethany, I'm so sorry you had to deal with the words you heard from your brother. There just isn't an excuse. I understand you be out of town.
Sending you hugs & I'm so glad you realized quickly that your move was not a mistake:hug:

Finally decided on roasted chicken for dinner with veggies.:thumbsup2

I am trying to use what I have in my house and only buying the staples. Milk eggs that kind of stuff. Don't worry we won't starve. I am famous for buying for the recipe instead of creating the recipe from what I have.:confused3

I need to get better at this.

Hi gang,

I was out all deal yesterday with DM. We went and ordered a mattress and bed for DS which is being delivered today!!:cool1: Now I just have to get the antique bureau from my DM's house and we are all set.

When we were out yesterday something happened to my back. I was sitting in the car with the kids while they were napping. My DM was in the grocery store. Well, I turned to look at DS and that was all it took my back went out. I was in tears. I never had this happen before, but let me tell you the pain was worse then child birth. I thought I slipped a disk but it must have been a back spasm. I came home and took one of DH's back pills and a pain med I had from when DD was born. Within about 4 hours or so I felt much better. It is still tight but tolerable. I was so worried about being able to care for the kids. My parents came over last night I was suppose to cook for them but DM ended up waiting on me because of my back. Dinner was a shrimp, scallop, and littleneck white sauce over linguine, caesar salad and bread.

WFD-Saucy beef over egg noodles. Never made this, I had it in my recipe box. I do not remember if it was from the thread or not. I will post if any good.

Maria, have a wonderful trip!!!! Safe travels.

Bethany – You already know how I feel about your family’s visit. I’m so glad you don’t regret moving here.

Ann – I’m so sorry to hear about your back. I throw my back out several times a year and it is very painful. The saucy beef recipe is mine!:flower3:

The Saints were horrid in the first half...:scared::eek::headache:

Why in the world can't the Skins play this good all the time!?!?! No dead on them today.

I'm glad they went home. :rolleyes1

I saw this on another thread- "Family, can't live with them, can't take them out to the desert and leave them for dead" ;)

My own DB, and that ain't dear , ruined Christmas one year when he got into an argument with my sister about spoiling my neices because she bought designer jeans and expensive sneakers when she was a teen. This was the same Christmas that he kept giving us all crap about money we spend while he and his wife went around taking pics with their brand new camera phones and they came to stay in their brand new minivan. He thought it was stupid that she was going to get a new vehicle to replace her 8 yo SUV that had started nickel and diming them with repairs.

The real kicker was when my DM, several months later, told her the HE wasn't mad at anyone. :sad2: He treats her like crap in her own home and HE'S not mad!

Party was great, they had these little dessert cups that were soooooo good and I got to bring leftovers home.

Yesterday I was so tired I did absolutely nothing and have just washed dishes and watched footbal today. I am going to get the lights finished though. We got about 4 inches of snow yesterday.

Not sure about dinner tonight, DM is out shopping so I am sure she will bring something home.

I never got up enough steam to drag my ole butt out today.

I did manage to wash the front hallway and bake cookies though. It is a dark cloudy day today. I just can't get myself moving for long. Maybe I need a cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. ;)

Ann Sorry You hurt your back. I did that a couple of time when Alex was little. I do still remember the pain.

Maria How is your cousin's apartment hunt going?

Bethany I understand why you have moved away from your family. Sometime I don't think they are aware how hurtful the comments are.

My mom told me I shouldn't eat any dairy or meat until I lose some weight. :headache: So yeah, I'm fat, stupid, can't be trusted, and live in a place where things happen that my brother "has never seen in the developed world." :headache: I'm glad they went home. :rolleyes1

And here I thought you were capable of making a living- putting food on the table, smart as a tack, responsible, contributing adult in society, living in a city that was well established before much of the rest of the "developed" US.
;)

hmm, don't think I could have been THAT wrong......... well, since you're irresponsible lets go blow the rent on chocolate ice cream and Rosa, and the doctors can't tell you to lose weight- since apparently that's a "pre-existing condition"!

:lmao:

Family's just that Bethany.....family. They exist solely to irritate you and you can't even pick which ones you want. However, I've found the riends I choose to be my "family", well those I wouldn't trade for the world.....even when they irritate me.(Cause they know I'll get even sometime!;))

Speaking of family, husband #2 is in Iowa this weekend visiting his family and hunting....already brought down 2 big bucks! That means venison in the freezer and deer chili for the rest of the season! (No Bambi jokes please, I used to not like hunting either until I had the parts sauteed in butter with onions and garlic!)

Tonight dinner is take out while I burn our Christmas cds into Itunes for the Ipod!

Lauri, loved getting rid of the gray today.

I'm glad you had a good time getting rid of the gray but I'm sure Mickey would still love you with gray roots I know I would

Hi....I've been really bad about checking in on this thread! :scared:

My family came for Thanksgiving and it was rough.

Aww Bethany I'm sorry it didn't go well. Take it with a grain of salt my friend  Sorry your having insurance problems get after them girl.

Ann I hope your back feels better like NOW.

I had a rewarding afternoon. I brought 2 prayer shawls I had made to people. One is like a grandma to me she was diagnosed with colon cancer and is having surgery on Wed. The other is someone my mom takes care of that is my moms age and has Parkensin ? spelling sad. Makes me realize how blessed we are.
Have a great day WFD Left over beef roast with rice that has bacon and peas in it.
:grouphug: to all.

Lori, enjoy that venison. I have a DB who is a big hunter. He tries to get me to eat it on occasion at family get togethers and I just can't do it. But I will eat and enjoy his wild mushrooms. Saute those babies with lots of butter onion and sausage and now we are talking!!!

Kathy, the saucy beef smells so good. I was going to nanatize it and add articokes but DH protested. I add half wine and half water till I saw how wine-y it made it!!! We decide to have it over rice since we ate pasta last night.

Bed got delivered today. Minor scratches in the headboard so I sent it back. I know DS is going to do some damage over time but I don't want to start with dings. I hate to be a witch but come on...we didnt get it at a scratch and dent sale. Girl on the phone sounded so irritated. Vent over.
