The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Ann--glad to hear that you guys are home and doing well. Yes, the transition to 2 was a hard one for me. Especially b/c DS was a bugger about sleeping.

Kathy and Lauren--feel better soon!

Wishing all a Happy 4th Weekend. We're heading out to Dallas in a few. :cool1:

Good Morning! I am feeling well so this is going be quick. I got some sort of migraine/sinus thing yesterday and still have a bit of a bad headache. Tom had to come home from work it was that bad...I couldn't care for the baby. I am taking lots of pills so I am feeling a bit better.
Love to all![/quot

Lauren, please call in the future. I could be there in a little over an hour!!!

Glad your feeling better:hug: Safe travels to Tom.

Dinner tonight will be grilled steak, not sure of the sides.
Greg & I were going to take on a gardening project this morning but he's on the couch & I'm on the computer & doing wash. This weather is not inspiring.
Thinking of going to the Chart House (where we had the mini meet) tomorrow night for dinner to watch the fireworks...we shall see.

Sheryl, wondering how your decision is going:hug:

Lauri, Kat, and Lauren - Hope all of you are doing better.

Maria - Can't wait to see the pics and report.

Marisa - Take care and take it easy. Hope your cold is better today.

Laura - Enjoy girl's day.

Sorry this is so short, I'm getting ready to run out of the house. Dad back in hospital - dehydration among other things. Hope to check back in later.

Also - Thanks for the anniversary wishes. We did go out last night and dinner was fab. We had crab hush puppies, low country spring rolls (ham, black eyed peas and collard greens), and a scallop pancake for apps. Kenny had duck breast and I had dijon crusted rack of lamb. Too full for dessert.

If anyone can say an extra prayer for my mother-in-law it would be greatly apprciated. She has been having pain in her hip (she has had both hips replaced years ago) Well they did surgery yesterday and took out old hip replacement along with a liter of yucky infection. We will find out in a couple days if it is mersa or what it is. They have put a temporary hip joint in. A year and a half ago she almost died from staph infection all through her body. My Dr. is in the same office as her Dr and when I went today to see my Dr. I asked about me going to see her and my Dr. said NO he does not even want me to go see her my immune system is up to par after 2 major surgeries recently. So I am feeling like a really bad daughter-in-law right now.

I hope she is doing okay

Argggh, I'm rethinking my cp surgery. My SisIL Chris (surgery nurse) spoke to the head neuro nurse, who worked with my dr- Dr Thomas when he was at Ochsner. She said he is every bit as fast and as good as the ortho docs. If it were her, she'd have him do the surgery.
Yesterday Chris had said she thought it would be better to have an ortho dr do it later which wouldn't need general anesthesia. But she also thought that neuro docs took an hour to do it, compared to an ortho dr who can do it in 10minutes. The nuero nurse told her that dr thomas can do them just as quick. So now I don't know what to do again!

My daughter & sonIL think that even if I do it later, after the neck, I will still need help to take care of Bob. Things like buttoning would be still be too difficult. :confused3

??? Anyone here have carpal tunnel surgery?

My colleague had both hands done two years ago, and an employee also had both hands down a couple years ago. They are both 100% better - it got to the point that neither could close their hands and my employee couldn't play the piano anymore, which was her vocation. The recovery was okay but they are both painfree and fully functioning now. I know it's a hard decision to make

Hi Everyone! I am doing alright. I got out of the house yesterday to go grocery shopping. Erica took me and I was so excited! I have a doctor appointment today to get my stitches out. I am going to try to get an appointment with my regular doctor because I have a nasty cold.

Sorry I havent been on much, but I have been working from home and staying busy.

Have a great day everyone. I will catch up later!

I'm glad you are feeling better and resting!

We are home!!!!!!!

Thank you all for all the love and support. We have a beautiful little girl snoozing away in her seat. :cloud9: She is such a blessing. Once we are settled I will try to post and catch up with all, much love in the mean time!!!

Ann

Can't wait to see pics!!!!

I am home from Houston - we left around 9pm last night and got home around 1:30 a.m. this morning. Now I have to get Day Camp stuff done - DH is leaving tomorrow to chaperone a weeklong camp for kids with cancer so today we're making the Sams run for food supplies while he's here to help me. It's always a huge load.

All of you with cool, wet weather are welcome to exchange it for my weather. It's been over 100 here each day. Last week we hit 106  Houston was about 102 and sticky :scared: I'd love some relief!

No idea on dinner...

I apologize in advance for missing a lot, I am no concentrating well lately

Lauren and Kathy- Rest and get better!

Ann- I am so glad that you adn our little Emma are home. Is Luke loving his baby sister?

Maria- I am waiting for a quiet time to enjoy your TR and photos! No yard work today, the weather is yucky!

Laura- our weather is hit and miss today, I am staying inside now that my shopping and errands are done.

Gretchen- Belated Happy anniversary! I am sorry to hear that your Dad had another setback. When is his chemo schedule over with...it sounds like he needs to be through soon.

Dinner last night was really good, I added garlic bread and some mushroom to the meal.

Tonight is just Buddy and me I think. Kady has been invited to see the fireworks display but I don't know what time she is heading out. I think we will have leftovers from last night if she is not here for supper.

Tomorrow cooking for two BBQ's over the weekend, a special spur of the moment one on Sunday for Janice, my DSIL. She is 15 years cancer free :yay::yay:

Have a safe and happy 4th! I'll check back later

Hi all, just popping again quick. Emma is alseep in her swing. I am gonna curl up on the couch and snuggle with Luke watching 'Bolt'. My tummy is bothering me today from all the drugs, hoping that literally passes soon...TMI :rotfl:.

Delivery saga still to come for those interested. Stay tuned!

Ann

Lauri, Kat, and Lauren I Hope you all are feeling better.

Gretchen Your poor dad:hug:

Ann Sorry you aren't feeling so good. How does big brother Luke like his baby sister?

I am taking a break from cleaning house. Some strange alien:rolleyes1 took over my mouth and invited some friends over tomorrow pre fireworks for a cookout. And I have people coming over on sunday too :upsidedow I don't know what I was thinking or not!

Ann- part of the sick feeling may be exhaustion so try to rest when the baby rests. Hope you are better soon!
Janice- :scared1: I know the feeling! I did the same thing with Buddy's cousins. What started out as getting together for dinner turned into my suggesting we have dinner at my house! Remember that your friends are coming to see you, not your house.

Dinner last night was not leftovers, really. Welby had two steaks marinating (yes, in addition to raising a huge garden, making her own wine, and keeping a menagerie of farm animals she and Brian raise their own beef) but Brian has been sick for over a week and did not want to eat so we had steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, mushroom and onions and salad.

Today is a cook out at my sister's house. It is her birthday so she hosts the family BBQ. I am making chili and BBQ baked beans, and whatever else I feel like making. Sending some over to Brian and Welby, they spoil us way too much!

Happy 4th to all, stay safe!

A quick post. I have laundry to do and a ton of other things. Plus it looks like it might rain today :scared1:

I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th

Heyyyyy!! Guess who got hooked up to the INTERNET?!? :woohoo:

It only took 2 phone calls to Cox and 2 visits to their store! The prior tenant had not disconnected their service, so we had to jump through some extra hoops to get ours turned on. But, the prior tenant had cable television and no internet, and we wanted internet and no cable television.

The truck is coming on Monday. Yesterday we went to a supermarket. :cool1: You should SEE these things over here! They have flat floors, smell clean, and they have a WHOLE AISLE of BREAD!!! :rotfl2:

So far, I am loving my apartment and my little car! I am going to go get my dog sometime this week. It was going to be Monday but now the truck is coming so I have to work out another time with my friend to get her.

Marisa - I hope your leg is doing okay.

Sheryl - How's that decision coming along?

Ann - Glad to hear the baby is well. I hope you feel better. There was a "delivery saga"? :scared:

Lauren - Glad to hear the baby is well.

:grouphug: to all who need them and HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!

Happy Fourth of July !!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke is adjusting great with the baby. He loves to have her hold his finger when she is eating. He says she giggles at him all the time.

Last night was another rough night. 4 hours at most. I do not like how she is adjusting to the formula, but I called my Dr. and spoke with DSIL (a NICU nurse) and they said it is normal. She may just be fussy and require time to adjust.

I feel much better today. DH is taking me grocery shopping. I need to much to send him alone.

Bethany, happy new home !!!!! ..... yes, there was a bit of a saga. My epidural wore completely off before delivery. Luckily she was out in just three pushes. It came fast and furious, once she decided she was ready.

I miss being on regularly, but for now I do not seem to have much free time between Luke and Emma. Miss you all!!!!

Poor baby  I hope she adjusts quickly so everyone can get more sleep.

Happy 4th! Completely uneventful here. DH just left for that camp he's chaperoning this week. I am feeling worse so I'm staying home and working. I assume most fast food spots are open today? I am not cooking and haven't been to the store so I'll pick up something.

WFD- My parents are delivering their version of meals on wheels, courtesy of DM's kitchen. BBQ chicken, potato salad, and corn.

BBL, missing everyone!

:thumbsup2

I need to hear the saga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bethany- glad to know you are back online and in touch!

Kat- take it easy, grilling will always be there, tummy issues...not so good

I made a black bean and corn salad, chili and BBQ beans. Just need to shower and head out. Buddy is at the farm trying to save those darn plants so I brought McDonalds for him and the guys working. I'll come home early and spend the evening with him

I am done with my dishes and just relaxing before everyone comes. Good thing the alien didn't invite too many people cause it is raining.

I will be grilling in the rain.:yay:

Menu is hamburger and hot dogs, apple snicker salad, broccoli bacon salad, fruit salad and for dessert we will have cream puffs and ice cream :woohoo:

Happy 4th of July!

We have had a nice day. We watched the town parade and then went to three different parties. Quite the socialites, aren't we? The kids had a blast, and so did we, although all I have eaten today is two hamburgers.

Gretchen -- I hope your dad is feeling better today. Your anniversary dinner sounds great.

Ann -- That is so sweet that Luke is already enchanted by Emma. I'm glad your mom is taking care of you. on the epidural!

Kathy -- I'm sorry you're still not feeling well.

Janice -- I'm sure your party was great. I always wonder what the heck was I thinking when I invite people over, but I always end up happy I did. Now, I am not crazy...the second party we went to today had more than 300 people say they would attend.

Nancy -- I hope you had a good time at your sister's.

Bethany -- You sound so thrilled! I am glad you are adjusting so well to your new home.

Hey WFD peeps! We're taking a short break fromthe heat back at our hotel. We had a blast at the ballgame last night. The kids got to see a homerun, which was cool. We left the game early to beat the traffic, only to discover that one of the top fireworks displays in the country was right behind our hotel. Which for us meant 2.5 hours in the car trying to navigate back to our hotel. The worst part was that we could see our hotel almost the whole time, we just couldn't get there. Six Flags was fun, but HOT! Since the kids are withus we skipped the big thrill rides, turned out great b/c there were no lines for the rides we went on.

Now, we're gonna scope out some place to eat. Hoping to get to the Galleria tomorrow.

Ann--yikes on the epidural wearing off! I want to hear the saga too!

Kathy--how are you feeling?

Laura--you've had a busy day! Sounds great!

Bethenny--congrats on your apartment, car, Internet, and soon to have furbaby!
