The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

I'm just disgusted...the stupid buyer has backed out of the deal because she "smelled gas in the house" DUH, they tried to turn the stove on (which they knew was not in working condition without the pilot light being lit. My realtor says she has never seen bad luck like this in the 27 years she has been in this business.:sad1:

I heard from Gretchen, prayers are needed. Her Dad's scans showed some suspicious spots. They won't know anything for a while.

Also heard from Lauren, Saturday & today were very hard but she's OK. All of her boys are congested. I should speak further with her tomorrow.

Oh Kathy...I am so sorry. I can't imagine the frustration this house has caused.

Kathy:hug: I can't believe that is something to back out of. When we bought this place the inspection turned up rotted window sills and an broken furnace. The owners replaced the furnance right away since they were still living here but gave us an allowance for the sills.

 That's a rather stupid reason to back out, probably did it deliberately so they could get out of the sale. :rolleyes1

Dinner tonight was salmon baked with salsa on it, angel hair pasta and roasted baby squash.

Ellen, what a great intro! So glad to have you here:goodvibes

Kathy, I can't believe the news about the house! She turns on an old stove, smells gas & backs out? What a jerk!
Can your agent go back & tell her she is loosing a great deal, she needs to have an inspection so she knows all is well?:confused3

Prayers for Gretchen:hug:

Dinner tonight was a roasted chicken, cranberry sauce & left over potato salad from yesterday.

Yesterday everyone asked what I did with the red velvet cake.....why it tasted different. After I tripled the recipe & sifted all the confectioners sugar I just couldn't put almost 12 cups of sugar into the butter, vanilla & cream cheese! I reduced the sugar by 4 1/2 cups & the frosting was just sweet enough. I'm going to stick to this trick;)

My agent and the buyer's agent have called her a nut case. The inspector even told her that was to be expected! In fact the loan officer at the bank where she had her financing asked if the closing could be moved up because she was driving them crazy. This is all par for the course for me, I swear my Mom & Dad are doing this to me.:sad1:

Do you think maybe you could rent the house out for awhile?
This has been such a horrible experience for you:hug:, maybe you need to regroup.

Where's Nancy?

Nancy -- I hope Nola is feeling better. Sick babies are no fun. I walked around the neighborhood with my friend and her little guy a few times this morning. He is all congested and every time he coughed, I felt terrible.

Hi Ellen! Thanks for the wonderful introduction. I'm pretty familiar with the whole deployment/dad being away scenario, so any questions or support needed, just ask. I found out a couple days ago my husband will deploy for the third time sometime around August/September.

My strawberry pie was a messy thing

I wish I could help you, but ever since reading Thinner, I never make strawberry pie.

Kathy -- I am so sorry about the house deal falling through. I can understand your frustration, but I am sure your parents aren't trying to get back at you. They just want the right person in there.

 for Gretchen and Lauren too.

The doorbell just rang with some guy looking for me to sign some petition or something. Why would I be agreeable to anything when you just woke my kids up and made me worried about who would be at my door after dark? :confused3

Hi ladies, let me introduce myself,

My name is Ellen

So nice to meet you, Ellen! :goodvibes Thanks for the intro! Since you've been lurking awhile, you probably already know the basics of all of us but feel free to ask if you missed something.

I'm just disgusted...the stupid buyer has backed out of the deal because she "smelled gas in the house" DUH, they tried to turn the stove on (which they knew was not in working condition without the pilot light being lit. I'm so sorry, Kathy. That stinks. :headache:

 for you.

We have now painted our kitchen 2 more times - the first color, which was DH's choice, was "OMG GREEN!" It was actually something like Scotland Isle but when you walked in the room, you screamed "OMG GREEN!" so I changed the name. So, when we realized we needed more paint anyways, DH thought maybe we should try the color that I chose, which was on the same card but a shade darker, so we bought that. It's drying really pretty but is still pretty darn green! We've had a neutral color in there so it takes getting used to. I'll post pics once we yank the tape off!

The house thing is ridiculous.

 for Gretchen.

 for Lauren.

How is Sheryl doing? I haven't seen her on here in a bit.

Do you think maybe you could rent the house out for awhile?

Hmmm....that's an idea.

I found out a couple days ago my husband will deploy for the third time sometime around August/September.

Hi Ellen! I haven't posted much in the last week because I've been out of town, but if you've been lurking you know me already.

I saw some more alligators today and I got to touch a sting ray and a shark. Yay for the Audubon places!

Good Morning!

Just wanted to quickly pop in and say thank you for all of your support throughout my pregnancy and during my brother's illness. I am still sad about my brother but comforted in knowing he is no longer in pain. What a turnout for the wake and funeral. It is awesome knowing how many people called Charles their friend. He worked for the same company for 30+ years so there were many people from work...he was inducted into their Hall of Fame last year and many stories were shared about him. He was such a great guy with a great sense of humor.

The funeral mass was very nice...I did the first reading and held it together for that pretty well. He is laid to rest just several hundred feet from a golf course so I know he is where he belongs. My SIL and neice were also doing fairly well.

Like Kat said, Andrew was sick, Tom is still sick and the baby is a bit congested...Oy! I am keeping a close watch on Thomas but he is as happy as ever and no fever.

Easter was very nice...I have some great pics to share but we got a new camera and Tom is compiling all the pics in one place so I do not know how to get them. Just when I learned to use the old camera!!!

Kathy, Thanks for keeping in touch with me. I am sorry I did not call you back. It seemed I was running around all weekend. When you called Saturday, I was actually sitting in the bathroom pumping so I didn't have a free hand. I am so sorry about the house. I will say many prayers for you...stay strong my friend. I will talk to you later.

Sheryl, Prayers for you.

Gretchen, Prayers for your Dad...

Prayers for all of you, my dear friends. You are such a special group of ladies!

+++++++++++++++
I need to get back to some normalcy so today I will be cleaning this house from the tornado that hit and cooking a pork loin, rice and carrots.
+++++++++++++++
Love to all!

Lauren, so glad to hear from you. Please don't overdue it, you have had a rough couple of days. You don't need to get sick like your boys. Kiss that happy baby for all of us.

Ann

Hey all! Busy, busy weekend. Saturday was a birthday party and our church Easter picnic. Then Sunday was church and then the rest of the day at my parents. I've posted some pics on FB if anyone wants to see the kids. I don't think I cooked all weekend. Easter brunch at my parents was very good. My mom made some yummy lemon pudding cake that I have to get the recipe for!

Kathy--so sorry about the house situation! Hugs to you!

Lauren--glad the service was nice. If you need anything let us know. Still sending out prayers to your family. Take care of those sick babies!

Laura--so sorry to hear that your DH will be deployed again. Hopefully plans will change before he has to leave.

WFD tonight is again up to my mom. I have some frozen ravioli, so I'll probably leave that for her. Have a great Tuesday all!

Thanks again for the warm welcome!! As I have been lurking for quite awhile I do feel I can jump right in, so here I go. . .

Kathy, I am so sorry about your parents house falling through again. There is a reason, we just don't know why yet!

Lauren, my prayers are with you. Please take care of yourself in all you are going through.

Gretchen, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you travel this diffucult road. I have been where you are and know how hard it is.

Laura, thanks for your offer, I might just take you up on it. As a parent it is so hard to see them suffering. We are suppose to make things better. When Elizabeth screams and yells and cries I feel so helpless. I am her sounding board. Last time Jay was deployed it was just her to worry about. This time she has Ethan. My thanks and prayers are with Greg and you and the kids.

Lindsay, prayers for Jan.

Aimee, can't wait to see the kitchen pictures.

Ann, thanks for the welcome

Ok I need to start taking notes - I know I have missed some of you . I'll catch you next time.

I have taken today off as I have a doctor's appointment then I am going to start painting part of the house. Oh joy!! It is suppose to be nice out today with the rain starting tomorrow. So today it is.

I have Bunko tonight so Dinner will be fast. Probably just leftovers again. We had A LOT leftover.

Make it a great day my new friends!!

Kathy, I am so sorry about the house. You must be so frustrated!

Ellen, thanks for the introduction. Nice to "meet" you!

I ended up making frisee aux lardons last night. I think we have been eating too many eggs lately. Hmm...

Dinner tonight is either the chicken arugula thing I planned for yesterday or thai coconut vegetables.

Scotlas what kind of frosting are you wanting to make? A special flavor? Cooked, buttercream? The choices are endless. Cooked turnes out something like a marshmallow frosting BTW.

:scared:too many choices !!

Would it be butter cream youse would get on most cup cakes !! :confused3

Im thinking that nut case is a nice way to put it.....

Is it your parents house Kat ?

Lauren - Please look after yourself, its been a mix of emotions for youse lately so remember you time....

My name is Ellen and I am one of the "older" ladies. I am 51, OMGoodness I hate the sound of that. Ugh!! I have been married to my HS sweetheart Doug for 32 years.

Thank you for the lovely introduction, I am in the older gal group here as well, chiming in here at 52. First, let me thank your family for your service, deployments are not easy for those left behind. You know that my nephew Timmy in in Iraq now.

I am wicked jealous of you right now, my DH raised cows, mostly dairy replacements for many many years but in the NE it is next to impossible to raise animals for anything but a loss right now. Land is nowhere to be found at a reasonable price. I am going to live through you for a while ;)

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your family better.

OKay, this is not acceptable. I wonder if you can go after her for her deposit. Donny's seller tried this kind of shennagin when he was in the process of purchace. He had his agent speak to the broker for the seller and that nonsense got stopped.. This is not a contract breaker so I would ask the agent to have a quiet word with her agent and broker. If nothing else the broker may be able to hedge her by telling her that their business relationship os over.
Call me if you want how Donny went about it or PM me.

Thanks for the Gretchen update. I worry about her a lot.

I'm hanging by a thread, it feels like.

It never ends, does it :sad2:

AS tot eh doorbell...... that is not acceptable!
I ended up making frisee aux lardons last night. I think we have been eating too many eggs lately. Hmm...

I would eat eggs every night :thumbsup2

Lauren- thinking of you and hoping that your family feels better soon!

Nola is feeling much better today but she does not want to nap. She is tired but cannot seem to sleep. Oh well, I may just end up clearing out my DVR :thumbsup2 . Buddy is home again...he is not happy. His company is actually turning work away, it seems :sad2:. Some guys have been told to look for another job, others have been told maybe they will be called back in June. All kinds of rumors so no one really knows what is happening but it is lousy all the same. Buddy is the first in the seniority line so this is really scary for some of those guys under him, they need 1800 hours to get a good year in and that won;t happen again this year.

Dinner is more leftovers, I also don;t feel like cooking, I cooked for 16 the other say so I am done til tomorrow.

I'll check back later, I don;t like being so far behind, I neve catch up :lmao:
