The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hey Y'all,

Happy St. Patty's Day!
I am going to have to quit grocery shopping, cooking dinner & watching tv to keep up with yall!!

Lauren, Those pictures are BEAUTIFUL!!! Especially T & Andrew! That baby is just so pretty & I love him all bundled up in Mom's baby sweater. Oh too sweet for words!

Robin, Try to enjoy looking younger than your years. Believe me it's a blessing.

I can vouch that Laura & Becky both look very very young! Laura really does not look old enough to be Liam's Mom!

I've got to run DH just informed me he is coming home for lunch to meet an electrician here.

It's too hot for lamb stew. The corned beef was sold out, so maybe salmon for dinner?

Sheryl- I look so young, on a good day I might look 20. I know that sounds great, but when I'm out with my daughter I really get a lot of comments from people and feel like I need to defend my age, which is really none of there business. I'll be at the grocery store and people ask my why I'm not in school. Really, if I was skipping school do they think I'd go grocery shopping? I just hope I don't go from looking really young to really old overnight!

Robin, like Sheryl said, it is is blessing when you get older. My mother always looked much younger than she was but now that she is in her 60s she really appreciates it.

Gretchen, Don't feel guilty about going away...you are going to have such a good time...

Don't worry, I don't feel that guilty. ;) I know we are going to have fun and I'm already looking forward to it.

That is an encouraging sign that he is making an effort. I hope he can pull the grades up...for his sake and yours.

Thanks, me too!

After dinner we're going to watch "Finnian's Rainbow". Last year we tried watching "Darby O'Gill and the Little People", but the banshee scared my kids to death and I ended up with a bed full of my own little people.

 Not that I think your children being frightened is funny, but the visual image of a very full bed is humorous.

That will only happen, though, if I can stick to my new rule of not eating out during the week, because when we get home that late the temptation is really there to just pick up takeout on the way home. We'll see what happens...I'll try to be good. Wish me luck with that!

Good luck. I don't usually have that much will power.

I had to change mine too! No availability at BC or BWV so we'll be at SSR!:cool1:

We're staying at SSR for our May trip for the very first time. I'm looking forward to it, can you believe I've never even been on the grounds?

I know that I am feeling my age lately. I have no idea how Mom's carry that bucket thing...........i look for any reason not to. Nola liked to swing in it and that was one of the times I was happy that Buddy was home. He is a "swinger" ;)

:lmao: :lmao: Oh my Nancy. I thought I would choke on my salad when I read this. I hope this isn't one of those posts Buddy snoops and sees. He really will die of embarrassment. ;)

I'm the oldest?! I'm 52 and my birthday is next month. :scared1:

We won't tell. :flower3: And believe me, that policy has served me well over the years. Every year on my birthday I tell the kids that I am 34. They know I'm not 34 any more, but I have them so confused, they have no idea how old I really am. (39, but you can't tell them ;) )

Don't start resort changing...it is a sickness!;) :rotfl:

That is funny! But I was hoping all along to get into BLT, I just had to wait for the 7mth window to open up. I have been dying to stay there ever since they broke ground. We need the kitchen when we go for Hailey, but I have such wonderful family memories at the Contemporary. We stayed there on our last trip with my grandmother before her death and I associate the Contemporary and Small World with her. I can't go to Chef Mickey's or ride that ride with out crying.

and artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, olives and feta cheese for me.

Now that sounds delicious...I love feta but they tell me not to eat it pregnant. Funny thing is with DS I lived on Greek salads.:confused3

: He is a "swinger" ;)

That Buddy I knew he was a wild one!!!:lmao:

(39, but you can't tell them ;) )

The big 40 for me this year...I can't believe it.:scared1:

Bring your tissues and have fun, I am sure she will be smiling down on you girls!

:rotfl: I can just picture that scene. The same thing would happen here with Caili.

I can totally relate to this! We have hectic nights around here, and it is hard to resist the takeout. What helps me is if I have leftovers that can be reheated quickly or if I have sandwich ingredients in the house. I also don't bring my cellphone with me (I'm between cellphones right now, but I would leave the old one at home on purpose). If I know I can get something on the table in under 15 minutes, I won't order food out on our crazy nights.

I was happy that Buddy was home. He is a "swinger" ;)
 Nancy, those bucket carriers are hard for everyone to carry, no matter what age! My neighbor who has a newborn was just complaining about that thing the other day and I could never carry my kids around in that without feeling like my back was going to give out.

Every year on my birthday I tell the kids that I am 34. They know I'm not 34 any more, but I have them so confused, they have no idea how old I really am.
 Unfortunately, I think Liam has my age calculated down to the minute (38 for another couple of weeks).

My mates one of the candidates on the UK Apprentice

How exciting! Now this thread has connections to two reality stars...your James and Stephanie's Kris Allen.

I bought some salmon at the store, so I am doing something with that. I haven't quite decided what yet, but I am trying to figure out a recipe that would include salmon, pasta, peas, dill and cream sauce.

I only have one salmon steak in the freezer, can't find the lamb shoulder steaks I thought I had. Ugh gotta run to the grocery again.

Kat, I'm bummed that you won't be at BC with us! :sad1: You can continue to check regurlarly, things do change & open up. Remember our last trip, at the last minute ended up getting DD a room at the BC.

Since I'm renting DVC that would mean the person I'm renting from would have to keep calling and I'm not sure she would want to do that. I really wanted BC too.

Happy St. Patrick's Day All!!!!!

Back from the ENT...3 hours, oyyyyy.
Anyway I have major fluid in both ears but the infections are gone.
She gave me 2 medications...I have to wait 2 weeks & if the fluid isn't gone they will make incisions and put tubes in. I really can't see me being like this for 2 more weeks so I told her I will call Friday if there isn't an improvement.
I do have hearing loss on both sides from the fluid.

No corned beef today because of the long appointment. DM & I did go through McDonalds's...Boy is that some good stuff when you haven't had it in a year!

Is anyone staying at BC for F&W? I'm going to stay put...so close to the yummy stuff! This year I'm bringing my own Nuvo!

Wow, I have one little birthday and everyone starts sharing their age! For the most part I do enjoy looking younger, it's just hard when you need to buy an oven or car. I always figure age is like the weather, you can't do anything about it. Get back to me in ten years and see if I still feel the same!

Maria- At least your making some progress, do you get that really tasty liquid pink medicine as an adult? I always thought that made ear infections worth it.

Laura- Sometimes I go to allrecipes and they have a spot where you can do a recipe search with the ingredients you want to use. I'm sure you'll come up with something. I love fish, even bluefish, but I don't do salmon.

Lauren- My brother lives in Oregon, 5 minutes drive from the pacific. I live 5 minutes from the atlantic. We always joked we would each pick a coast and then we would get along, I never thought it would actually happen.

Kathy- I saw the little chick thing, but I'm still having trouble setting it up. It shows up as words. At least Easter's late this year, maybe I'll figure it out by then.

Oh no, I hope the meds work.

Maybe we could get together before the meet, which looks like it may be on the evening we arrive, Fri 10/17?

WOW, I remember that stuff! I wish that was one of the medications!

Kat, meeting before the meet would be great! Whatever you want to do is fine with me. I'm really looking forward to the F&W:thumbsup2

Ann, 40 was rough for me but remember we're all here:hug:

30, was extremely hard for me. I am at a much better place in my life right now so I am trying to be positive about the whole 40 thing. If you see me having a meltdown in May, then you know why!!!!

I am so jealous of all of you doing the F&W festival meet. But it is just not in my cards this year. I know you all are going to have a ball.

Update on the bathing suit situation. I called my local maternity store and they got a couple of suits in, in my size. :cool1: Wish me luck I am going tomorrow morning to try them one. This buoyant body is getting in a pool either way.

WFD- trying to decide what to make myself for dinner. I hate cooking for just myself. I am thinking mac & cheese with some stewed tomatoes thrown in, I also have some asparagus I could cook. Time will tell how motivated I am.

For me, 40 was the best year ever! I had lost 100 pounds, and run the WDW half marathon. I was in the best health of my life, and I felt great. I guess that's why I'm not too upset by my age. I figure, it's just a state of mind, and I love where my mind is these days!

Good luck with the bathing suit, but even if you don't find one you like, shorts and a Tshirt work just fine!

Ann, you never know.....maybe something will happen & you'll be with us!

You go girl with the bathing suits!!!!
Have you looked in L.L. Bean? They have some pretty good options.

He's accepted the fact that he won't be getting much playing time until next year. Hopefully he won't be redshirted, I think we'll all be OK with just accepting he won't get much playing time this year.

The first year is the pits! He had to go from the best to working his way up. Not fun at all:sad2: The light is that he is good and that will come through.

OMG.

Several of us in the over 50 crowd :cutie:

The first time I went to Disney I was 23 and Buddy took me. We stayed at the Contemporary and I thought I was in Heaven. Remember Dinner at the Top of the World? You needed to dress for dinner? It was so romantic. A few years later he said we needed to take the kids and insisted on the CR again so that they would be immersed in Disney. We saved (he saved) and saved for the trip and it has those treasured memories too.

McDonalds is one of the things I miss so much I agree that bringing the Nuvo is the best thing....$15 a pour is too much when you can enjoy the entire thing for 3 X that:thumbsup2

Kady told me that this is the best day ever :cloud9: I always tuck a card in her lunch box on Holidays and special occasions, it is the one thing that is only from me. This was a pop up one and I spent $7 :scared1: for it but I was running late at Barnes and Noble and needed one. She was so excited it was worth it. I will not run late again though. I hope that she enjoys the books as much.
