The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hello all I had a sleepless night last night and got up later than usual. I think they fixed my car at last. I think my car finally talked and slipped what was wrong. It was just a dumb ole starter. I figured that was the problem that or the alternator but what does a women know ;) They are men who know cars. I'm not supposed to know about cars inner workings. :rolleyes1

Alex must be starving since his asked right when he got home WFD. He didn't like my "what are you cooking" :rotfl2:

Lauren I don't think you are chubby I think the stiches not holding might be overdoing it abit. BTW I prefer the term fluffy. It is all the extra clothes we have been wearing.

Susan Glad you are back and joining us.:woohoo:

Well I better go figure what to feed the boy before I have 3 legged dogs.:lmao:

Lauren, cute pictures!

I would love to do corned beef for tomorrow but I am the only one that would eat it. Hmmm, maybe I should just get some sandwich corned beef and have it heated up with cabbage and potatoes?

Lauren, he is just precious. I love the sweater, it reminds me of one my favorite DA bought for DS. It is a treasured item to me because she passed away when he was three months old. Your pics keep getting me so excited for my little one. The proud big brother picture is great!:goodvibes

Glynis, still waiting on those updated pics of Timothy...when you have time.

Lauren - I have to agree with Ann and all the others. He is just adorable!

I promise I have some really cute pics of the baby, but our camera battery is dead, and I can't find where DH put the charger. He can't remember, either. So, I'm trying to find it, and will get them up as soon as possible!

Lauren those pictures are amazing. My favorite is the big brother & the little brother!!!!:lovestruc

Greg surprised me with a filet & some grilled veggies so I had that post Mocha Frap.....oh well.

When I asked Greg about the piercing the eardrum Greg explained that's what they did when he was in the Navy in water survival school.....well that explains it! Just gross!

I really have the munchies for something chocolate.....the cupboards are bare:upsidedow

Awwww, those photos are adorable! :goodvibes

Kathy, Sheryl, and Nancy - When the time comes for me to have a baby, I hope I never tick any of you off! YIKES! :scared:

Sheryl- I think I'm the baby of the bunch!

Nope, I turned 27 this past November. Sorry.

I have not posted here in a very, very long time but have been lurking and keeping up with what has been going on with everyone.

I work for a local sheriff's office doing way too much paperwork to get people in jail to court and various other things of that nature. It's never boring which I guess is a good thing.

Welcome back! I don't think I've been on here long enough to have been around when you were posting before.

I work in a school and do way too much paperwork. Boring is underrated. It CAN be a good thing....but I wouldn't really know myself. I have too much to do to get bored! :upsidedow

The ENT couldn't see me today, I go tomorrow at 11am. My ears are still a mess & we officially canceled flights today, I feel terrible because they won't take my Mom's vacation back so she has 10 days of being home...Poor thing really needed a break so I'm feeling bad.

 I hope you feel better soon! And the postponed trip is a real bummer.

Only four more days left until the weekend, but who's counting?!? I don't want to wish life away, but I'm ready for this school year to be over. I asked for boxes today from the lunchroom, and my friend is going to drive me home on Thursday so I can bring home however many boxes I have by Thursday. So far I think I have at least 6 stashed in my classroom. :rotfl:

Not only did my son not get to pitch, he has been suffering severely with his allergies all the while he was gone. He didn't say anything to me cuz he knew I'd worry but I knew he sounded off every time I spoke with him. He went through an entire box of contacts and hasn't slept in two days. I've already scheduled a Dr. appt for him, poor kid.:sad2:

Welcome back!:goodvibes

 for Kyle......your boy is a dude for not worrying you.Hope the doc gets him sorted.:thumbsup2

Ok, this may be adding insult to injury considering I haven't posted pictures in a while, but I have to share this: TIMOTHY JUST ROLLED OVER FROM HIS BACK TO HIS STOMACH!!!! I can't believe my baby is big enough to figure that out! Of course, once he got on his stomach, he couldn't figure out how to get back over, and was really mad!

Just had to share with my family!

Thanks for sharing this with us!:thumbsup2 He's getting to be a big boy Mommy!

You can not kiss & tell without spilling the beans!!! :rotfl:
DETAILS please.

I agree, fess up.:woohoo:

Few years ago when we were in Ireland for St. Paddy's Day we couldn't wait for dinner! No corned beef to be found! We were told it was an Irish American dish & we had salmon:)

I'll take the salmon any day! :thumbsup2 Maybe that is what I will make tomorrow...if I can find any decent salmon.

Um...do not let them pierce your eardrums unless absolutely necessary and only under heavy sedation. That really hurts! Read Stephen King's "On Writing" for a vivid description.

Not that i had any:sad1: I promised my mum I would keep her some and i miss calculated and there was not enough.....so i had Corn Flakes !!

That is terrible! That would never happen in my house. I usually make too much food.

TIMOTHY JUST ROLLED OVER FROM HIS BACK TO HIS STOMACH!!!!

Yay! He'll figure out how to get back over in the next couple of days...then you're in real trouble. ;)

Kathy -- I'm sorry Kyle isn't feeling well. I am sure he will get better soon being home.

Well, I decided on the leftover Chinese food for dinner. It was okay, but I don't think I need Chinese food again for quite a while.

Glynis - It's hard to believe Timothy is old enough to roll over. Boy time moves quickly.

Lauren - Thanks for sharing those pics. The baby is just precious. And A is growing up so much!

Susan - Welcome back. Feel free to vent. As you can tell, we don't stay on topic much. ;)

Maria - I'm so sorry about your trip. I hope you and your Mom can reschedule. And I agree about Greg's suggestion. :scared:

Laura - I laughed out loud when I read your response. When Aimee asked what corned beef tasted like, I thought yuck too. I just wasn't brave enough to admit it. I was afraid the mothers here would make me try it again.

Kathy - I'm sorry Kyle isn't feeling well. The allergy issues are wiping us out too. We're all popping sinus meds like they were M&Ms but Kenny still manages to sound like snoreasaursus rex at night. Thank heavens my night time sinus medication still knocks me out.

And thank you to Robin and Betthany for sharing their ages. I don't plan on doing the same.

And thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement regarding Patrick. I promise we aren't going to kill him, I don't have room in the freezer. ;) He has decided he doesn't want to go to summer school, so he is at least attempting to do his homework, etc. Only time will tell if he will be able to pull it out. Stay tuned for the continuing saga. :happytv:

Hey, what's all this kissing???? Do tell......;)

Our plans for London are the Tower, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, West Minster Abbey & Kensington Palace/Gardens. I love English history such as Henry VIII so I can never get enough of those sights. The Tower is fascinating to me. Greg has mentioned the "War Rooms" but it's nothing I need to see again.
We aren't going to do a show because we go so often into NYC....
Any other suggestions please let me know, I haven't been to London in 4 years.

I have now moved onto hot chocolate to help my chocolate cravings:woohoo:

Why are we sharing so many ages????? Lousy 42 here : (

Thank you!
Oh my have you had it done to your ears?! I just thought it was a barbaric Navy thing.....:scared1:

Prayers about Patrick, hopefully summer school will be his motivation to work on things:hug:

Laura? Have they done that to your ears?

Sorry about all the posts...see when I'm around I don't shut up:confused3

OK Aunties...here are some more pics:

*squeal!* He's so cute!!!

Okay. This child is going to be walking before we get some more pics of him. Come on, Mr Glynis, find that battery charger!

This recipe was VERY good - moist and very flavorful plus easy peasy! We almost ate the 2 pound tenderloin ourselves  I served it with quinoa and a buttery mix of zucchini and squash. YUM!

Spice-Rubbed Pork Tenderloin

Allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon—a combination often found in cold-weather baked goods—accent the savory rub mixture. Turn the pork frequently in the pan so the spices don't burn and grow bitter. The rub also works well with heritage pork such as Duroc or Berkshire. If you don't have whole allspice berries, preground allspice will work.

1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 (1-pound) pork tenderloin, trimmed
2 teaspoons olive oil

1. Preheat oven to 350°.

2. Combine first 9 ingredients; rub over pork. Let stand 20 minutes. Heat oil in a medium ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add pork to pan; cook 4 minutes, browning on all sides.

3. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until a thermometer registers 155° (slightly pink), turning after 7 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes. Cut pork crosswise into 1/2-inch-thick slices.

Yield: 4 servings (serving size: 3 ounces pork)

CALORIES 166 ; FAT 6.3g (sat 1.7g,mono 3.4g,poly 0.7g); CHOLESTEROL 74mg; CALCIUM 13mg; CARBOHYDRATE 2.1g; SODIUM 500mg; PROTEIN 24g; FIBER 0.5g; IRON 1.7mg
