The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

 Back to work day for me. *sigh* Only another 3 days to the weekend.

WFDT? I really wasn't hungry. So I picked at the baked potatoes that DH cooked.

last night was the Spaghetti Squash, and vegan meatballs, with homemade red sauce.

Tonight is Broccoli, cucumbers, bell peppers, and David will throw in a Pork Chop.

Ok..........is anyone else having issues getting in here? Or is it just me? I have been at this for 30 minutes. Yesterday I just gave up!!

The kids decided that a June wedding was out. Really the only thing that has to be is during the summer. Katlin works for the LPS system and has the summer off. It would just work better in the summer for a wedding and honeymoon. They have now set the date as July 2 and they have found some amazing Venues. Last night they went and look at "Wilderness Ridge". Ladies, it was like walking into the Wilderness Lodge. Matthew loved it as did Katlin. I think they booked it.

WFDT? Pierogies and kielbasa with onions and sauerkraut.
I have to be honest - I have never tried Pierogies. What are they?

Brandi ~ I am over the moon happy for you my dear sweet friend. Now I hope David is back to his old self.

Alison ~ Glad to know you are home and you and Fran had a great time. I am loving the trip report.

PIO ~ I wish you would start feeling better. Have you been to the Dr. Spring colds are the worst!! Take care!

maslex ~ Spaghetti (especially homemade) is my absolute favorite meal.

It is cold and rainy here today. Harvest has all but stopped and will for the next couple of days. At least it isn't snow.

WFDT ~ Chicken sandwiches, sweet potato fries and lemon salad.

Make it a great day!

now that a date is set and place is booked, I am sure they feel much better about things.

For me I wanted something specific, so I had to wait a year to get married. It was worth it to me at the time, but of course looking back, I think I would take the time over the venue. But it all worked out in the end. I am so happy for them.

We are both very happy and Yes David is back to himself, he is still worried about everything but no where near what it was.

Hugs.

Good day all,

Brandi ~ Doug would be, and is, the exact same way as David. I am so glad that things were ok. I kept telling you they would be. Now you have also been released from PT - things are looking up. How is the hip feeling?

I am so excited for tonight. Stephanie has asked me to go to a "Red & Wild" event. It is sponsored by the American Heart Association. Her Co. has bought a table ($1000) and they had an extra seat and invited me. We are all meeting at her office and getting ready. It is a very dressy affair and we are all suppose to wear red. I just happened to have a beautiful red dress that I love. I went and got a pedicure last night - bright red of course. The cocktail hour and silent auction is from 5-6, with dinner and an auction. It should be a very fun night. I love to dress up, but don't have much of a chance to do so.

WFDT ~ I have no idea, but it will probably be something chicken.

Make it a great day!

Oh tonight sounds like fun. How exciting. I am sure you are going to have a great evening.

The hips has good days and bad days. But I have to keep stretching and strengthening, but I can do it. And then I have to get back to losing some of this weight I have gained. 30lbs... Whew, not happy!

Have a great evening.

Ellen - Date set? How awesome. Now the real planning starts! I didn't get on much yesterday; so I don't know if there were issues. Will you take pictures of yourself all dressed up? Please share!!!

Brandi - Knowing you, you'll drop that weight real quick!

It's thursday here and I think I will pull the frozen bolognaise sauce out of the fridge and make pasta for dinner.
I've been good at keeping the carbs down and have been mostly eating well. I haven't jumped on any scales and don't really intend to look at them anyway. But this morning, I think my clothes are just feeling more comfortable.

Good morning all,

Oh my, last night was a ball. We had SO much fun!! I even won one of the silent auction items. Stephanie and I love to go to the Merriman Theater. We saw Footloose last year. I got a $100 Gift Certificate to the Theater for any performance. We are thinking we will go see Vicki Lawrence. I was a bit disappointed with the meal though. They served a pork loin, and I don't eat pork. But the potatoes, and green beans were yummy. What a fun night with good company.

Brandi ~ I have no doubt that the weight will come off once you feel like exercising again.

PIO ~ Sometimes the best indicator of weight loss is how our clothes fit. Good for you

The preschool just came over to show us their outfits. Liam is Capitan America. I just posted some pictures on Facebook. They were all so cute. This is the 3 year old class and tomorrow we will see the morning and afternoon 4-5 year old class. This is one of my favorite times of the year. Our preschool is in a "little Pink House" just adjacent to the Church. We are so lucky!!

WFDT ~ Ham & bean soup and jalapeno corn bread.

Make it a great day!

:wave2:

Sorry I've been MIA. Ellen sounds like you have been having a lot of fun.

Brandi, I hope things get better soon and you can drop those 30 pounds. You really must have been exercising.

I have been busy busy busy since we got back from the cruiae. The first two days back I was great with unpacking and getting back to things, but since Monday, Fran has been making me do house "cleaning" stuff, but more like major rearranging and so I still have one suitcase left to unpack and dishes are piling up in the sink. I was able to get her to lay off long enough yesterday for me to go through all the mail that piled up while we were gone. I also paid the property taxes for all four of our properties. :crazy2:

Last night was sloppy Joes and potato chips. I meant to make real sides, but I was just so tired. We moved boxes all around at storage to make room for more stuff from the old house and also move it away from the door. El Nino is coming and we even bought flood insurance. Today is going to be another day of moving stuff.

I have to get my nails Dien first because one of them is broken in a very bad place. If it breaks off it will tear skin and be very painful. I don't know how they fix these things, I am mew to nails, but I've had to be very careful about how I use my finget so as not to make it worse.

TGIF - that's all I can say about today.

This has been the loooooongest day ever. For the last few Fridays I have gotten off at noon. Today I have to work till 4. A few weeks ago we had our Annual Church Auction. It is our big fund raiser of the year. There were tickets to the NE/Maryland Volleyball game tomorrow and Doug wanted them and was able to be the highest bidder. So as soon as 5 o'clock comes we are heading to Lincoln. Matthew and Katlin flew down to Dallas on Wednesday for the TCU game last night so we have the apartment all to ourselves. I am really looking forward to a weekend alone. I know that sounds mean - and I don't mean for it to, but it will be just Doug and I. That doesn't happen very often.

Alison ~ Yes, I have had a fun week. Take care of that nail. I love m pedicures, but I usually do my own nails when I wear polish. I usually wear them naked though.
You have really been working since you got home. Bless you!!

WFDT ~ I have no idea - all I know is I don't have to cook for the next 3 days. Woohoo!!

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

I have to be honest - I have never tried Pierogies. What are they?
....I guess the best way to describe them are they are a Polish version of a potato ravioli....without the sauce, of course!

Well we did all kinds of stuff today, laundry, putting away stuff from the cruise, opening a tenant's apartment so we could install a toilet. When it came to dinner, I really didn't even feel like it, but I had to eat something. We ended up with a Stouffers Chicken enchilada meal and some frozen corn.

I still feel ick, but a little better.

Ellen, I hope you have a great weekend! Isn't it just the two you when you're at home? Why is being in an apartment alone together being such a great thing? I hope that you enjoy your time!

Ellen - hope you had a great weekend.

Kimmar - nice to see you here!

Alison - Hope you feel better.

Monday evening here.

Been a busy weekend. I spent it at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). Fun event for the whole family this year. DS is finally at an age where he's allowed by the Expo/convention rules to wander around by himself. And he is mature enough (according to his parents *ahem*) to be trusted to do the right thing at the Expo. So that meant that all 3 of us could do our own things at our own speed. We texted each other to catch up for coffee and lunch and when we were ready to go home. In fact, I ended up catching public transport home on the Saturday because the boys weren't quite ready to leave yet. It was....a very pleasant turn of events for our family.

I'm still coughing but feeling a lot better now. Hopefully, I can get rid of the cough at some stage.

WFDT? We had homemade burgers. We're having friends over for breakfast tomorrow morning; so I expect I'll be full all day!

Good morning Monday girls,

Kimmar ~ They sound really good. I will have to be on the look out for some.

Alison ~ I guess when you put it like that, it did sound silly. I guess for 2 people from a very small rural farm town, to go the "Big" city by ourselves sounded like we were almost doing something we shouldn't be doing. But we did have fun even so. And I didn't have to cook! Win win!
Hope you start feeling better real soon.

PIO ~ Your weekend sounds like a lot of fun. Glad you are feeling better.

We had a lot of fun. But didn't do hardly anything we said we were going to do. I kind of felt we wasted the weekend, but I totally think it was worth it. Doug has had a couple of rough weeks at work and I think the "down time" was just what he needed. We ate good though and that's all that counts - right?!

WFDT ~ Hamburgers and chili (in the crockpot).

Make it a great day.

Ellen - sometimes, downtime is what is required. Hope that Doug feels a little more rested now.

Where did this weekend go? It's Tuesday evening here already. W-o-r-k tomorrow.

WFDT? Baked potatoes. We're nothing, if anything else, consistent and boring.

Good morning Monday girls,

Kimmar ~ They sound really good. I will have to be on the look out for some......
....two nearby towns, Garfield and Wallington, are predominantly Polish descent, so I can buy them freshly made...

Good morning all,

Kimmar ~ You are lucky to have them fresh and so close. How have you been - I've missed you.

PIO ~ Never ever underestimate boring. I will take boring over busy any day. I guess I am getting old!

Well tonight is the night!! Our Charge Conference is at 6:30 and we have a Task Force meeting at 5:00. This is what I have been working on for the last 6 weeks. I will be very glad when it is over. There are a few very contentious items on the agenda tonight. There will defiantly be some head butting. I have already been warned. Girls, I don't do confrontations at all, so this will be very hard for me. They will not be directed to me - not at all - but still will be uncomfortable.

WFDT ~ Nothing - Nada - well at least until the meetings are over and then maybe just a bowl of cereal. I don't think I will have much of an appetite.

Make it a good day - I am really really trying.

Ellen - I totally agree. I like a quiet pace; but it would be nice to mix it up a little. Hope the Charge Conference went well without too many head-butt headaches.

Hump Day is over here and I was rewarded by a nice dinner at mum's. At least I don't have to go to work tomorrow. REally looking forward to a quiet day.
