The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Dinner sounds delish!

Hope you get your cruise booked. I'm scheming for DLP in 2016.

Cool.....without consulting with Fran I want to schedule Oz for 2018, but that has no bearing in reality until I get her on board..

Beautiful Fall day here on the Plains.

Alison ~ Your dinner sounds wonderful and easy!
Good luck on booking your cruise. I am so jealous! Doug and I are so ready for another cruise. We LOVE to cruise. Doesn't look like we will be able to get away until next year at this point, but we really do need to look at our options. Have fun planning.

PIO ~ Is school out down there? How long will DS be at camp? You are so darn lucky to have all of the choices you have to pick from. I love the small town, country life - I really do and on most days wouldn't trade it for anything. But there are times that I listen to you and Allison about all the things you have the opportunity to see and do, and I really wish I could too. Enjoy!!

Well it is Thursday and I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hate it when work gets in the way of my fun here. :-) I have a massage right after work and boy does she have her work cut out for her today. There are a lot of lumps and tension that needs to be worked out. I can't wait!!

I have kept the workouts and walking going. I find I really look forward to my hour after work to "work" things out before I get home. Plus I have dropped another 7 pounds - 4 more to my goal so I am thrilled.

Going to get my flu shot tonight!! Get out there and get yours soon.

WFDT ~ Beef Stroganoff, Harvard beets, pan fried shaved Brussel sprouts, and homemade rye bread with plum jelly.

Make it a great day!

Ellen - Wish I were enjoying fall on the plains too! YAY for losing weight. You are looking fantastic.

School had a 2 week break. It's the equivalent of Spring Break. DS went back to school for 1 day and then went on school camp for 4 days. He's come home today. This year's camp was a city experience; so he didn't go far. They stayed in a 3-star hotel in the city and he said there were 4 other boys in the room with him, and their own ensuite. The hotel has a couple of floors specifically set up for school camps such as this. It was a multi-cultural theme for food. They ate Greek, Chinese and Italian. And on the more educational side of the trip.....his group was exploring homelessness in the city.

Enjoy your massage and I'm glad there's the light at the end of the tunnel.

I have to admit that I don't get a flu shot. I did get it one year and that year....I was sick for the entire season. DH had the shot that year as well...and he was equally as sick for the entire season. We've never repeated the experience.

WFDT? With DS home, we ended up getting fish and chips for dinner. The carbs are definitely sitting a little heavy in my stomach so I'm heading back to steamed vegies for the weekend!

Thank goodness it's Friday, and I only have to work till noon. :D

PIO ~ Ya know, they say that you can't get the flu from the shot, but Matthew swears he does too. I bet you were glad to get DS home. That is a great experience for him.

I am so darn mad. Yesterday as I was eating my lunch I kept crunching down on something. Well this morning I realized it was part of my tooth. We are leaving for Lincoln in 2 hours and my dentist takes Fridays off anyway. It doesn't hurt at all, at least right now it doesn't, but damn!!! We are going to be gone until next Wednesday. Please pray that it holds out till I can get back.

WFDT ~ I have no idea as Matthew and Katlin are taking us out tonight.

Make it a great day and weekend. See you all on Wednesday!!

I have to admit that I have never received a flu shot either. I had a holistic chiropractor who told me that it was linked to Alzheimer's so I never started getting them. Let's hope my good luck holds up staying healthy! Fran gets one every year and has already had hers.

I hope your tooth holds Ellen!

We went out last night. We went to an old favorite and unbeknownst to us they has completely remodeled. It used to have an old school upscale "old boys" kind of feel, and now it's "hip", bright, and open. Plus they changed the look of the menu. Food was pretty much the same, except they didn't have my Mahi Mahi. I did have some oysters. For my entree I got the swordfish and then my standard mac n cheese, and sautéed spinach. The mac was a little "off" and the spinach tasted like they had added soy sauce or something, not the usual garlic and butter. Fran got a crunchy roll and finished what I couldn't of my plate.

We'll go back at thanksgiving time when my parents come down and give it another try, but if the food and service aren't better, we're going to be finding a new fish restaurant.

Only 1 week until the cruise!!!!!

Ellen - I hope your tooth holds out!

Alison - That's a shame about the old favourite. Hope that the food improves at thanksgiving!

It's Saturday here and I'm waiting for the rain to come. It's been hot and dry; and we've been promised wet weather this weekend. HEre's hoping!
WFDT? I don't know. I would like steam vegies but I don't know what DS would like.

WFD tonight? Pot roast, mashed potatoes with <BACON> [ :hyper: ], and string beans......

....I went shopping at the Super Walmart after church and the bakery dept had a container with four miniature bundts [about the size of a cupcake] - carrot cake, red velvet, chocolate, and German chocolate! I already ate half the carrot cake one - SOOOOOO good!

Monday over here.

It was a busy'ish weekend. Saturday morning was cleaning the house, and that left us with a quiet rest of the day on Saturday.
Sunday.....we had a music performance to get to for DS. We left mid-morning and got home mid-afternoon. After that, DH and I got stuck into the garden. I have that one flowerbed that we completely cleared of shrubs that is now super empty. We got some nutrients in, more compost and topped it all with some pea straw. That'll mean I can plant some vegies in next weekend.
Food? I've been reasonably good over the weekend. We did end up having steamed vegies for dinner on both Saturday and Sunday nights.

WFDT? I don't know. But I sure feel like having a bit of chicken with salad.

OMG! YUM! That sounds delicious!

....and they were, like, REALLY GOOEY......and I mean that in a good way. ;)

Kimmar, I'm jealous of your cakes. I was thinking of making some sugar free chocolate pudding with whipped cream made with splenda for dessert.

Friday night we ended up ordering take out. Fran worked me and Darcy until almost 6PM and it was one of the hottest days of the season. Long Beach set a record at 105 degrees! I had baby back ribs and she had beef ribs, she share with me, but I couldn't even eat a whole one along with 4 of my ribs, cole slaw, corn on the cob and cornbread.

Last night we had spaghetti and salad. Jim and Justin came over to cool off in the pool, so I took another pouch of sauce out of the freezer and they joined us. I ate brown rice and quinoa pasta while everyone else had regular seminola pasta.

Tonight I have a Prime Rib in the oven. I have so many turkeys, hams and Prime Ribs in my freezer I need to step it up on the big meats. Turkey buying season is just around the corner!

PIO, you're being really good, I've already had to change up my cruise wardrobe. That light saber skirt was too tight when I tried it on this morning. Not good for night 5 of a cruise. I pulled out a NWT's red dress that I bought when I was much heavier. It was slightly baggy on me, so that should be good as a substitute.
