The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

well the Dr. says it is my SI joint. Acute Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction with an inflamed Bursa Sac.

So she gave me a cortisone shot and told me that I would feel great in a day or two. Well about 2 hours after the shot, I could not walk.
I could not sit, stand, lie down I was miserable, I got about 90 minutes of sleep that night. I called her first thing, and she said I had a severe reaction to the shot, and prescribed 2 different pain killers, one for the day and one for the night. Tramadol for day and Oxy for night time.

The pain meds make me feel loopy and I do not like that, especially when I have to work and interact with people.

Last night I had a massage and it was like day and night in the difference it made, I slept 8 hours last night, and woke up refreshed and feeling great. The pain has come back to the hip, but my leg and back and body in general are all much better. So I am on the pain meds and feeling loopy again.

I have PT for 8 weeks, 3 days a week starting June 1st. Lots of fun and joy.

....it was kind of 'dead' last night.....perhaps it was a bit too chilly...of course, last night was a school night too....:confused3

Happy Friday girls,

I swore I popped in on Wednesday - apparently not. Sorry!! I took yesterday off as I had the dreaded Mammo and Physical. Man, I am glad that is taken care of for another year. Blood work was perfect and in some instance better than they have been in a few years. My cholesterol was way down. I guess losing almost 20 pounds really does make a difference. After that I was able to go to lunch with Stephanie. We sat and talked for over an hour. Was so good to not have to share her with anyone (re. the precious princesses).

Kimmar ~ It is so good to see you. I have missed you. Your carnival sounds like a lot of fun. Bless you and DH for helping. I know it takes many volunteers to run one. But they can also be a lot of fun!!

Alison ~ I hope by now that Fran is feeling better. How many infusions will she need to be feeling better?
With everything else going on, I hope you are taking care of yourself. Bless your heart!!

Brandi ~ Oh bless your heart. I know you are feeling better (FB) but I also know you aren't 100%. I hope you start feeling better real soon. How did PT go?

PIO ~ I pray that the next 6 weeks go by problem free for you. Nothing is worse than having to go to work and dreading it.

It is raining again and is suppose to all weekend and into next week. We are so needing hot dry weather, but it isn't listening at all. Everything is turning yellow (crops) and the baby calves are getting sick. They have even postponed opening the pools as it is just too cold. We need to see the sun!!

Harper is being baptized on Sunday, so Matthew and Katlin will be home for the weekend. He hasn't been home since Easter, so it will be nice to have them.

WFDT ~ BBQ Ribs, scalloped potatoes and pasta spring salad.

Make it a great day and have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Happy Saturday!

Brandi - Hope that PT works out for you!

Ellen - I don't quite dread work....I just know there is an enormous amount of work when I get in. I'm good at what I do and I know my stuff. Because of that, people come to me all the time to help them resolve their issues. I've always had a reputation at work of helping everyone fix things. And there are about 4 other projects all launching on the same day. I've been doing extra community service because I've been coordinating the training deployment and communications plan across all the projects. It's all good.

Alison - hope that you and Fran are getting better!

Well no, not yet. The first installment has been given but it will supposedly take until the second one for her to feel trelief. Until then we are cranky city. Angela and her DH came by today and Fran was able to be civil but mostly comatose.

We had Crescent Dogs for dinner. My one night of disobeying the plan.

Happy Tuesday all,

PIO ~ I totally understand. There are days and times of the year that I am so busy that I can't see straight. But all in all I love my job too. The only difference is I am in the office by myself, but have 450 bosses. ;)

Alison ~ So if that is the case - when will she be getting round number 2. I hope it is real real soon. Bless your hearts!!

We aren't Texas, so we haven't made the news, but man oh man, the flooding here is bad. We were under a flood warning all weekend. And it's suppose to rain again all week. ENOUGH!! Right now it looks gray and cloudy and like it will bust out raining any second.

Harper was baptized on Sunday and that was the high light of our weekend. What a beautiful ceremony and of course she was perfect.
Yesterday Doug was able to get 18 holes of golf in with 2 of his buddies, so he was happy. I planted flowers and got the porch and patio all summer ready. I even had a glass of wine in my honor after I was finished. Wow, I was tired when I went to bed last night.

WFDT ~ Taco salads with all the fixins, with fresh peaches and cream.

Make it a great day!

OH.MY.GOODNESS there is a bright yellow orb in the sky. We haven't seen the sun in over 10 days. It is glorious!!

WFDT ~ Chili dogs and cucumber/avocado salad.

Make it a great day!

Alison ~ So if that is the case - when will she be getting round number 2. I hope it is real real soon. Bless your hearts!!

She won't be getting round two. She was in so much pain Saturday that Sunday morning she broke down and took some of her previous medication which made her null and void from the drug study. Now her RA doctor wants to see her tomorrow and is probably going to tell her not to take the other pill either until her blood levels even out from the infusion. I just picked up a big bottle of Morphine at the pharmacy, she's going to need it.

Morning everyone,

Alison ~ I am so sorry that Fran is in so much pain. I really hate to hear this. I remember your pictures of your vacations just last year and how good she looked. Damn, I wish there was something I could do to make this better. All I can do is keep you in my prayers. Please know that I am holding you both very very close my friends.

Hi to everyone else. I hope your days are good and magical ones.

We are back to cloudy, rainy and windy. Wow, how I don't like this system we are in. We have had enough. We are still under a flood warning and will probably be till at least next week. We are getting it out of the Rockies, along with over 10" of our own rain, makes for water everywhere. We live higher than the town, so we are not affected but basements in town are taking water. Not a good situation at all.

WFDT ~ Egg sandwich for me and Doug will eat at the Country Club.

Make it a great day!

I can't believe it is Friday already. Even for a short week, it went really fast!

This weekend, I am painting in the kitchen and Doug is replacing a window in my laundry room. Work on a 100+ year old farm house is never done.

We have a meeting tonight to discuss with the Bishop, and District members about our UM Church Camp. They are trying to get Committees together to serve a year commitment for refurbishing it. I have a real passion for this Church Camp so I am all for it and ready to do what we can.

WFDT ~ quick Turkey sandwiches with a fruit salad.

make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

 Checking in.

I'm still hanging by fingernails at work. So, I may not be around as often for the next month. But I may lurk from time to time.

Hope everyone is well....and making soup this weekend. ;)

Morning girls,

PIO ~ Bless your heart. Holding you very close - you can and will do this. Deep breaths!!

Alison ~ I am so sad to know that Fran is hurting SO bad. I pray that she gets some relief soon. Bless your heart though - you are really taking the brunt of it all. I so wish there was something I could do to help.

I am happy to report that I did remember the soup challenge this weekend. It was even cool enough to justify making soup. Doug doesn't really care for soup on a good day, and thought I was crazy to be making it in June. But last night for dinner he really liked it.

I made Butternut squash soup. I really don't use or have a recipe but here goes.

I large Butternut Squash - peeled and diced into small pieces
2 cups of chicken stock - I use my homemade stock - YUM!

Boil together until soft. Then I add:
2 cups heavy cream
nutmeg - I usually zest a whole one. I love the extra taste. You could use accordingly
salt and pepper to taste.
I then use my emulsion blender to smooth it all. Enjoy.

I was even able to freeze to serving for later.

We got a lot done this weekend. It felt so good to leave the house this morning and know we really accomplished what we needed to do. Saturday we never left the house and yesterday we only went to Church and then out for lunch (there are 3 couples that go together every Sunday) and then home to get busy. Poor Doug worked his fanny off and also had 2 detailed calls during the day. Then at 1:45 this morning was called out again, and was gone till 4am. He never even came back to bed. Poor guy - he is starting his week very tired.

Tonight Lilly has her dance recital (a week ago was gymnastics), I can't wait. I can't believer what they can do with just 3 year olds. I will try to post a picture on FB.

WFDT ~ BBQ pulled beef sandwiches (in the crockpot) sweet potato fries and strawberries with cream.

Make it a great day.

I'm sorry I've been MIA. As most of you have seen on FB things have been crazy. We are in the final stages of wrapping up getting #2 ready for the contractor, when the band got a curve ball that we have to move from our current rehearsal space. While Fran and I are not in charge, she is very protective of the band's library. We have about 15 file cabinets of music amassed over 38 years. A lot of it we donated over the last 15 years. She wanted to be able to control that because the idiots in charge had some very stupid ideas on what to do with it. We won't have as much storage space at our new place for at least a year or more, so now we are housing the library until they build a new wing at the church and we get more space.

I had planned to make the soup on Saturday but a surprise "pack up the band room" session came up. We were so tired when we got home that I just ordered take out. I don't even want to explain the drama with that, but in a nutshell my taste buds were prepared for one thing and it was out of business as of two days before, and there was NOWHERE else with a comparable product.

Then I had planned to stay home Sunday and make the soup, until my phone alarm reminded me of tickets to the Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga show last night. So hopefully tonight, it's only 72 degrees for a high here and the days have been fairly overcast so soup won't be a bad choice.

I want to just lay in bed all day today, but I have a million things to do. Plus I have so many TRs to get caught up on!

Stormy Tuesday,

Alison ~ Like you need one more thing on your plate, my friend. Just remember, it will all get done and take one thing at a time. Or else you will get totally overwhelmed and not be able to do anything.
How is Fran feeling?

I hope you all don't care if my posts are rather long and about my babies. If you want me to stick to just meals - just let me know. No offence will be taken. ;)

The recital was the most precious thing I have seen. Those little 3 year olds were so stinking cute. But they were the 3rd ones on at 6:45, (they had to be there at 6:00 and is started at 6:30) Doug and I had to leave before it was over as Doug was on Call and had gotten a coworker to cover for him, at 9:30 and it still wasn't over. I am so surprised that Lilly didn't fall asleep. Her bedtime is at 7:30 pm. Plus the fact I can't believe those little ones were sat there for 3 hours. I know I am just the Nana, but really - that is just way to long. And get this, this is the first night of 4 performances. Each night they have different kids. This Academy is rated as on of the best in the USA, and I can totally see why. The talent is amazing. I really hope she sticks with it, she is so darling and really loves it. I will try to get Stephanie to send me some pictures as I didn't even get to see her before the performance. I will post to FB when I get them.

Ethan has a ball game tonight in a town about 45 minutes away at 8pm. I being the good Nana that I am, is going. As Doug is on call he won't be going. Last week all games were here. Too bad they weren't flipped flopped so Doug could have gone. Oh well!! He is the pitcher and asked me if I was coming. Yes, baby I wouldn't miss it!!

WFDT ~ I am going to pick up a Jimmy Johns on the way. Doug is on his own.

Make it a great day!

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we don't mind hearing about your babies!

Fran is still in a lot of pain and very depressed. I wish I could do something for her, but I don't know what.

What is a Jimmy Johns?

Uggggg what a morning!!

Last night right before I was headed home I got a call from the Auditor. She wanted to meet with me first thing this morning. I got that dreaded pit in my stomach. You know the one - When you were in school and the principle came over the intercom and requested your presence in his office. The first thing you think of, is what did I do wrong. Well I knew my books, checking account, investments and figures were spot on, but damn I worried all night. Doug kept telling me not to worry, but I was a mess. I am so not a worry eater - I do the opposite - I couldn't eat a thing. Well they were here at 8:30 and by 9:00 they were leaving. They just had a few questions about the checks that had been written. For example, there was one to AAA and they wanted to know why I have travel insurance for the church. I explained that AAA is the name of the Co. that takes care of our underground sprinklers. That sort of thing. So I am good to go. Man I am hungry!! :p

Alison ~ I could just cry thinking about Fran. Man, this just isn't fair! I hope they get this straightened out soon. The poor girl can't take much more. Prayers will continue!

We are under the gun with severe storms already this morning. It could get pretty "Western" (as Doug says) today and tonight. Again my car is going to the barn.

Ethan won his game last night. Those little boys were so excited.
I popped in last night before Ethan's game to snuggle for a bit, with Lilly and Harper, and she wanted so bad to go with me to the ball game, but with a late night last night Momma said NO.

WFDT ~ Chicken pot pie (as long as the weather stays good) green salad and peach salad. If we are under severe weather, we might just grab a sandwich between batting down the hatches.

Make it a great day!
