The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Brandi - I hope you avoided the snow flurries and enjoyed the Mexican, is there anything there you can eat? :confused3

Alison ~ I would love to meet you in the parks. I ordered the DL DVD yesterday. I am working on Doug! So far he isn't saying NO anymore.............he just looks at me, but says nothing. That is a good thing! He really wants to go to WDW but I want to go to DL. I know he would love it once he was there.

You could give him all the fun facts. I don't remember what exactly they are, but something like 95% of the same attractions covered within 2 parks in 10% of the walking distance. I can take you to some pretty "hard to get to" places, plus we can have tons of fun! Would this trip be in this calendar year?

Well I had Wendy's Chili for 1st dinner last night. For second dinner I had crustless pizza, basically I put pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni mushrooms and onion in a pyrex dish and cooked it for 20 minutes. I had ooey gooey cheesy goodness with pepperoni. It was so good I'm having it again for breakfast. AND. I weighed less on the scale than I have for a week. Still not under my lowest weight, but at least within the same pound level. Boy this is frustrating.

Darcy has to watch her granddaughter while her son takes baby's mother to emergency for some kind of stomach thing. They left at 5AM, so who knows if she will be coming over today. I'm heading out to the gym if she's not here by the time I finish eating!

I have a Mexican Salad.... it was a salad with beans and salsa and avocado.
So not to bad.

Hopefully, we will not see the snow this evening...

Good and happy day all,

Brandi ~ I heard that on the news this morning. I hope it's just flurries. I was in the bathroom this morning and the furnace went on. I was so surprised! I went and looked and the outside temperature was only 25. Burr that is cold!

Alison ~ Yes, it would be this year. Couple of questions, if you don't mind. Should we fly into LAX or Anaheim? Is it just brutal - heat wise in the summer? And if so what would be a good time to plan on coming?

Quite, quite here today. At 3:30 the kids will be here and then it will be hopping. As soon as I can get out of here I need to go to the bank and the grocery store. Doug is changing the oil in the mower so it's ready for tomorrow. We really need to mow!! With the rain we got last week, everything is greening up and growing. I need to get out to my flower beds. But it is really chilly right now. Not to get to the 60's until the weekend. Burr!!

WFDT ~ BBQ chicken sandwich for me and a hamburger for Doug, sweet potatoes, asparagus, and fresh pineapple.

Make it a great day!

Afternoon girls,

I won't be around tomorrow as I am taking the day off to go watch the girls. Stephanie's lady who watches them has a dr. appointment and with Stephanie just getting off of maternity leave didn't feel right asking for a day off. So I volunteered. I can't wait!!! I hope it will be nice as right now they are saying rain. I would love to be able to go for a nice long walk. But if it's cold and rainy we won't be able to. I am sure we will figure something out. I am so excited. See you all on Monday.

WFDT ~ grilled chicken breasts, mine on a salad and Doug'ss will be with mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts.

Make it a great day and a fabulous weekend!!

For which airport, it just depends on the flight details, timing, price... Don't rule out Long Beach either. LAX is the farthest, but also has the most options and best prices. Long Beach is really convenient am you could even stop by and see the house! John Wayne is great to fly in and out because it is a full service airport but much smaller than LAX and closer.

As fa as time of year, June is nice we get what folks call June gloom so it is overcast in the morning, it burns off by afternoon but it usually doesn't get too hot. July and August are pretty hot but September can be unbearable. October is usually nice as are November and December. I'd love to help you plan a trip here!

Last night my girlfriend came over and we went to dinner had some wine and good food and caught up on each others life's. I was a great time.

Sunshine today, last night was in the 30's. Today in the 60's.

We got all the car stuff done - kind of spring cleaning oil changed, oil filter changed, washed, waxed, leather cleaned, carpets cleaned, tires rotated and balanced! I feel like it is almost new except I bought in April of 2000

Next is David's truck. Whew.

So let's see, last time I checked in on dinner was Tuesday night. Wednesday night we had Mahi Mahi with Lemon Butter and Asian stir fried vegetables. Thursday we went out for Shabu Shabu. Friday night was Pad Thai with Shrimp and last night was Egg Fu Young.

See a pattern? I'm trying to be gluten free and Dairy Free but I have a feeling that I failed on the sugar. the sake with the Shabu probably put my blood sugar over the top, and then it was even higher after the rice noodles in the pad Thai. We'll see this morning when I check again.

Tonight WFD? Steak and green beans. That should be a good protein meal!

!

Ellen - What time of year are you looking at going to DLR????

What a couple of weeks!

It's been a lot of fun but a lot of hard work being a single parent. I've been working at hard at keeping things going and have had no time for the Dis at all. I feel so out of the loop and behind with everything and everyone. The good news is that DS and I have eaten well. I've been doing carb meals like pasta and burgers and rice...but they have mostly been homecooked. I've also managed to keep the lettuce lunches going as well. I need to step it up with exercise and cut down portion sizes completely!
I've also managed to keep the house spotless and I'm pleased to report that the laundry is completely cleared of clothes and all the ironing is done. I've been such a good little housekeeper in the last two weeks!! :rotfl2:

I also didn't forget about leftover meal last weekend. I hope to load those pictures up before next weekend.

DH comes home on Wednesday (my Wednesday). Looking forward to having him home..but I know he's going to mess up the house and throw 'our' routine completely!

Good morning girls,

PIO ~ I have no idea what time of year. I am still in the process of trying to persuade Doug on going. He really wants to go to WDW and we also want to go to Chicago for my birthday so it is still on the back burner right now.
You did such a good job while DH was gone, but yes, you are SO right, he will throw your routine in a tizzy.

Brandi ~ Your girl time was just what you needed. I love those times!

Alison ~ When and if I ever get to the point of being able to plan this trip, believe you me you will be my go to girl. I ordered the Birbaum 2015 book to Disneyland and it should be delivered on Thursday. I will put it on the end table on top of the WDW one. I am anxious to see if he touches it.

Oh girls I had so much fun on Friday and the weather held off and was actually really nice. We were able to go for 2 really nice walks. Lilly was an angel. We ended up eating our lunch outside on the porch. She thought that was so cool. And she ate really good too. Gosh I love those 2!!

It is a beautiful day out today. Not to warm but nice enough you don't need a coat. Doug just came in and was like a little school boy. Men's night starts tonight at the Country Club and he is golfing. Good grief - and so it begins. I will be a golf widow till the snow flies.

WFDT ~ BBQ Pulled Chicken sandwich with nacho chips (suppose to be my snack, but I will eat them with my sandwich.)

Make it a great day!

We were in the 30's last night, and up to 60 during the day today, these 30+ degree changes are killer..

Ellen, sounds like your family time is just wonderful and beautiful, I miss having little ones around. but not enough to have anymore myself... Haha

Ellen - sounds like a fun Friday indeed! And if you're a golf widow, I think that means extra time to plan a DLR vacay!

Brandi - hope the weather gets warmer and more consistent for you.

DH is home tomorrow. He's on a plane right now. Looking forward to seeing him.

I know you are glad to have DH home, when David travels, it is always like a part of me is away, and I am not whole until he returns. Corny I know, but it is how I feel.

Good morning girls,

Brandi ~ Not corny at all!! I totally feel the same way. Even last night I couldn't wait for Doug to get home.
Oh HELL no.........that is the beautiful part of Grandbabies. I get to love on them, cuddle them, spoil them and still get a good nights sleep. On our walk the other day, it took us 15 minutes to go 3 houses. Lilly stopped and we looked and felt everything. It was so neat and I realized as a Nana it is so fun to really stop and look at things. I wish (I thought I did) I had done more of this when my kids were little.

PIO ~ I know you are so excited to see DH. I bet DS is excited. But as excited as you 2 are, I bet he can't wait to get home also. It is always nice to get away but even better to be home.
I have put the DL trip on the back burner for now - I think I was pushing to hard and Doug really dug his heels in. He really wants to go to WDW this summer. Oh, I will get him there - believe me. I want to go and I know he will turn around. We just haven't been to Disney for 5 years and there is so much new in Florida that I think he wants to go there first. So who am I to argue. Maybe in the fall - who knows, but for now I am not pushing it.

Alison ~ I haven't asked lately - How is Fran feeling? Birthday weekend is coming up real soon (Man, you don't know how I am tempted to just get on a plane without Doug and come celebrate with you). I am so excited for you but I also know you will have more fun if Fran is up to it.

As soon as dinner is over we are going to work in the yard. It is WAY overdue. We have played way too much and our yard is really suffering. So tonight is the time we have to reclaim it. The weather is supposed to be nice so there are no more excuses. We have 5 acres that the house is on, so it is a BIG job and can get away from us real fast. Tonight is the night!

WFDT ~ Taco salads with all the fixins.

Make it a great day!!

Well I finally got a blood test yesterday and she didn't kill me or bruise me. I prefer to pick my own vampire, not let the doctor steer me to one. So what did I do after that? Got Hotcakes and Sausage from McDonald's! :rotfl2: I swear, this doctor tells me that you lose your taste for things after not eating them, and I know you feel that way too Brandi, but not me! :lmao: I savored every bite of those pancakes. I can't wait to eat my birthday cake on Friday night! This whole week I am going to splurge and eat stuff I'm not supposed to!

Although last night I was good and we had a whole roasted chicken (the cats ate most of it) and roasted asparagus. Tonight we go to band and I'm going to order a drive through burger. I need to figure out which chain to go with. I would rather go to my favorite hole in the wall, but they closed down about six months ago and put up a sign saying they would reopen after remodeling. It's going really slow, but every time I drive past I keep doing the old Mervyn's commercial thing, "open, open, open."

One thing about being in a townhouse - someone else does my yard. Now when we move home to Texas, i will have 20 acres to take care of. Have fun in the yard.
