Evening all,

1. Dishwasher - I second this. I didn't have a dishwasher until I had a new kitchen installed a few years ago, and now I don't know how I lived without it.

2. Stand mixer - second this too as I do lots of baking and the thought of mixing without it is painful. Sadly mine isnt a KitchenAid - I've wanted one for years but can't justify the price of them as they're never on sale enough - but I can dream!

3. Nespresso machine - I have a Nespresso Vertuo machine that is a daily necessity for making my coffees. It makes me all the coffee I need, included standard pods & flavoured versions, as well as helping me whip up some gingerbread or pumpkin spice lattes.

Kitchen . . .

My countertop oven. It gets used much more than my microwave.

The microwave oven. Without it, life would move a lot slower.

My dishwasher. I can’t stand washing dishes by hand. Makes me gag. I would be lost without the dishwasher.

Honorable mention goes to the fairly new fridge.

Today's Topic (Tue, 11/4) - 3 things in your living room / family room / den that you're grateful for

Fireplace - gas not wood love it I will have that on almost every day in the winter love it love it love it

9 ft ceilings - even though I am a short person I love having 9 foot ceilings it doesn’t make the house seem so crowded it makes it feel more airy and open

My huge tv mounted up on the wall - although I do battle with it every day and I do mean I battle with it every day and I have threatened to rip it down off the wall and smash it because for some reason it wants to be difficult when it’s not being difficult and it’s working properly and I don’t have to do a reset on it to get it to work right I love my TV is a beautiful picture but if it doesn’t stop being difficult I will replace it so fast it’ll make your head spin because I’m tired of dealing with it and I let it know this and so far it’s been behaving but I am very grateful for it it’s just like one of those difficult teenagers it just acts up every now and then it seems to be going through a phase it needs to work itself out I think given it some quiet times in the evening hoping it will help I think it just needs some long time

Happy Tuesday

#1 - MY PRECIOUS MOMENTS - I have large curio cabinets, in my living room. full of them (well over 200) and they are beautifully displayed. Many memories attached to most of them.

#2 - ELECTRIC LOGS IN FIREPLACE - I love this in my family room. I get the lights and sounds of a fire, but no mess and work that comes with a real fire. It does have a heater, but I never use it.

#3 - LAZY BOY CHAIRS - We have the most wonderful Lazy Boy chairs in our family room and I give DD22 credit for finding them about 10 years ago. She sat in one at the store and yells across the store - MOM….THIS CHAIR IS THE BEST! I went and sat in it and agreed, so we bought two

Another vote for a fireplace! Ours is gas, and so nice to have sometimes in a chilly New England winter.

The fact that my kitchen and family room are open to each other. I 'm not for completely one-space living areas, but I do like that I can watch the Macy's parade while making cheese balls at the kitchen counter.

I hesitate to say this, since I fear I might jinx mine, but projected long lifespan was part of why we made the investment. Mine is almost 18 years old. I was afraid at first, since I've killed many a pricey Cuisinart food processor, but so far...the Kitchenaid stand mixer has stood the test of time. While it meant not getting any of the super fun colors, I believe the coupon we had brought it under $200 US. They often also go on sale over here for Black Friday/Cyber Monday...although, you have to be careful. Sometimes those are the entry level tilt head models with the less powerful motor than the standard Artisan tilt head. Part of me wants to upgrade to the lift or pro model for more flour power but I don't bake enough anymore to truly justify that. As it is, DH doesn't understand why I need both the original stainless bowl as well as the decorative one. Ummmmm...what if I'm doing a big project and don't want to have to keep washing the same bowl vs. washing at the end?

French Doors with Built in Blinds- We've made a number of upgrades to this house. When we moved in, the family room had a sliding glass door with long hanging exposed vertical blinds. The shift to doors with protected blinds behind glass not only meant a wider entry way for moving larger things in and out, but no more dogs getting in the middle of the blinds and messing them up. They also just look nicer.

Game/Bar Space - Our main family room was an extension the previous owner had build onto the house. It's a massive room. Half of it has our L shape sofa set up with a large tv in the corner and a display case with all kinds of games and memorabilia. There's also bench seating going all the way along the back of the room, a big bar area, and enough room for a small dining table and a game table (full sized shuffleboard in this spot). All in all, it's a fun room.

Tiki Speakers - I've given our bar a bit of a tiki vibe and one of my favorite elements are a set of "flaming" tiki torch speakers that were gifted to us a few years ago. The flame elements make for a nice mood setter for the room (since our fireplace is in a different room and never sees any use), but it's also nice to have the music element. I use them a lot around the holidays.

18 years?? Wow that's impressive! If they still make them the same then that's certainly a great selling point. Over here they seem to be between £400-500 each, although I might keep an eye out for any sales over Black Friday.

Living room:

1. Electric blanket - something I can't live without over the winter, and I always use it to keep warm when relaxing.

2. Relaxation/comfy space - I always associate my living room as the place I can relax and be comfy, put my feet up after work and just chill out.

3. Keepsakes - my living room tends to be the room in my house where I have a lot of my keepsakes or favourite things on display, like photos, ornaments, books, Lego. And it's my favourite room as I guess it most resembles me.

I don’t really have a living room, as it’s all one big space with the dining area and double wide entry. I am grateful for the large space around the holidays as everyone can feel included in the conversations instead of being compartmentalized into smaller rooms.

I am grateful for the large windows that surround it and flood it with natural light.

I am grateful for the ceiling fan that helps keep it cool.

I do! I almost always have 1000 piece puzzle going year round and it sits by the window so I can soak up the sun- when I get a few minutes to work on it. I always did them as a kid with my dad.

Aww I love that you and your dad spent puzzle time together! My dad and I have put together (much smaller) puzzles, too.
