The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Two Tuesdays till Christmas,

Well I sent a very nice but stern email to Amazon. We shall see if I get any response. I will let you know. I totally understand how busy they are, but it was in stock, eligible for Prime and fulfilled by Amazon. The #1 thing I don't like, is to be ignored. If it isn't going to be here by Christmas - I understand - but let me know - don't just ignore my request for answers as to why it hasn't even shipped yet and was ordered 10 days ago and immediately deducted from my checking account. Rant over - we shall see!!

Alison ~ Oh, what I would give to be standing in a line at Starbucks in WDW and using my MB. You are so lucky. I know you are having a great time.
Prime Time is a favorite - what did you get? I love the meatloaf!

Well all, I need your prayers I think - no I know - I am getting the crud. My chest hurts and I have a cough. Doug gave it to me, and I am very mad at him!!

I do NOT have time to be sick!! I am taking Zicam and Airborne to see if I can't ward this off. We are suppose to have the girls this weekend and they won't be able to come if we are sick. Prayers sure would be appreciated.

It is snowing as I type. It is a proper winter storm out. I really wish I was home all cuddled in, wrapping presents, drinking hot tea (Toddy) in my jammies. But here I am.

WFDT ~ Beef Stew (in the crockpot) and rye bread (in the bread machine). My house will smell heavenly when we get home.

Make it a great day all.

OH MY GOODNESS!!

As soon as I posted my post I went into my inbox to check my emails and then checked my Amazon order again and guess what I found..........

Arriving Thursday On the way Track package

I am so excited!!! We shall see if it really does get here on Thursday, but it shipped 20 minutes ago. I have NO idea if my email helped, but it is funny that 30 minutes ago it hadn't shipped and now I am to get it on Thursday.

My Daddy always told me if you have a problem, don't mess with the little guy go straight to the top. I feel in this instance it was true.

Wonderful, Whimsical, White Wednesday,

I really thought about staying home today. I'm not feeling the best and our schools are closed (that's the White - as we got about 6" of snow yesterday and last night) but today is one of my very favorite days in our Church. Today is Operation Santa Claus. Our Optimist group works all year and accepts donations for today. They send out invitations to needy families and they have a time slot to come and shop for Christmas presents and even stocking stuffers. We have volunteers that wrap them and bag them. It is a very rewarding day and not one that you ever forget if you ever work it. The tears of pure joy are everywhere. Hence the Wonderful and Whimsical!

I am so not one to complain and my letter was very nice but I did want answers. I chuckled so much when 30 minutes after I wrote the letter it was found and shipped. I thought maybe it was just a coincidence but I received a personal letter from them this morning and sure enough it was overlooked and they really apologized. They even gave me a nice credit.

I called Stephanie last night just to give her a heads up on us sickies. She didn't seem too worried and we have till Friday. We shall see. They were all sick with the stomach flu last year and missed all of Christmas. I sure don't want them to be sick again this year. Keep praying!!

WFDT ~ Subways - I have wrapping to do.

Make it a great day!

Sounds like a magical day of helping deserving folks Ellen!

Well, we're at the airport now just got off Magical Depress. Waiting to go through security. Dinner tonight will be in the air. Something beef as our other choice was kale and spinach manicotti. Not a fan of kale. Anyways, wish us a good flight. Our plane lands at 9:15 west coast time and we won't get to bed until probably 1AM. That's 4AM to our bodies now! And I've been up since 7AM. I need a nap on the plane!

 I can't talk myself out of it anymore - I'm sick and going to the Dr. today at 2:30. I feel rotten. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
Love to you all!!

Welcome home Alison & Fran. I know you had a great time. Can't wait to hear every detail.

Sorry I've been MIA.

Life's been full but hectic here. And I'm officially on Christmas break. I even turned the work phone off so that I wouldn't check emails and no one could reach me.
Here's to being able to check in the Dis more often!!!

/
I would....but I'm way late!!!

Ha! Yes you are! Hope you will have some time to check in now that you are on break, but I've seen you are busy elsewhere!

Tonight we had Stouffer's frozen lasagna. I made Fran a promise on the cruise that I wouldn't make anything gourmet until #1 is cleared out. So I'm destined to eat sort of crappy until that is done

With that in mind I'm ready to just box everything up and get it out of there since it will just sit in storage for pretty much the rest of our lives until I go through it and get rid of if. At this point thedd is nothing I will need there and just getting it out is the best plan.

It's Tuesday and I'm hoping DH will put some spuds in the oven. With the running around I've been doing, all I want is a simple meal and an early night!

Thankful for Drugs Tuesday,

Hi ladies! I almost feel like I might live today. I went to the Dr. on Thursday and he almost put me in the hospital. My oxygen levels were in the 80's and I couldn't get a full breath without coughing my toenails up. I had pneumonia. He started me on a Zpack. I hadn't ever even heard of this but let me tell you they worked like a miracle. By Friday afternoon I told Doug he could put the gun away - he didn't have to take me out and shoot me afterall. I truly started feeling better. And today, even though I am not 100%, I feel a LOT better. That stuff was wonderful. He also gave me a cough syrup with codeine in it. I only was able to take it at night because it made me so sleepy. But did give me the rest I needed. I asked the Dr. if we could still watch the girls and he said it would be ok. With lots of tag teaming we had a great time. Thank goodness the girls are so good. A great weekend we had.

Yesterday, I had to make the oh so hard decision to have Mia put down. We knew it was getting close but over the weekend it became apparent that her time was close. She was the best kitty and I so miss her. She was 17 and had lived a good life, but damn how I hate to make those kinds of decisions. We have Miss Sophie (13) left and she is lost without her buddy. It is so sad!

So not the best last few days, but it is only 3 days till Christmas. I don't have time to be sick or sad, so it is onward and upward. With being out of commission on the weekend, I still have some wrapping to do. When I left the house this morning I told Doug he was helping me tonight and that we weren't going to be until it was all finished.

PIO ~ I am so glad you are on break and can rest. You were working to hard. Did the project launch?

Alison ~ I think your idea is the way to go. After my Momma passed I dragged and dragged my feet going through her house. Oh it was SO hard. But then I had a few people that were interested in buying it. I was NO where ready to sell, but the longer it went I decided it was the right thing to do. So 2 of my best friends pretty much went in and boxed it all up for me. And I brought it all home. It was just too hard for me to do, as I wanted to go through everything and it was taking way to long. Best thing I ever did. So if you do decide to box it up, make a deal with yourself to go through a box every night, every day or one a week. Whatever works. You will feel so much better once it is done.

WFDT ~ We had a huge funeral here today and we served over 150, and planned for 175 so there are lots of leftovers. I am taking enough home for dinner tonight. So I don't even have to cook - just wrap wrap wrap!!

Make it a great day everyone!

I had pneumonia.

Ellen! Oh no! So glad that you went to the Dr and that you're getting the meds and attention you need. Take care of yourself.

So sorry to read about your cat. I know how hard that decision is but I think you did the right thing for Mia.

Did the project launch?

Yes! :cheer2:

My area of delivery went off flawlessly! And it seems to have all gone relatively smoothly. So, I've switched my work phone off. Will NOT be picking up any messages nor checking emails until I go back to work! And I don't feel guilty about it at all!

Wow Ellen! Pneumonia? That's no laughing matter! I'm glad that you're feeling better. I'm surprised though that you have never heard of a Z-pack. Maybe it's because Fran has an auto-immune disease, but we actually keep one on hand in our medicine cabinet for emergencies. I'm sorry about your kitty. I know how hard that situation can be.

I know what you mean about the boxes, but I don't see us really ever getting through them once they're packed up.

Tonight we are going to see If/Then at the Pantages with Idina Menzel. Dinner will probably be at 33 Taps which is a basic restaurant with standard burgers and sandwiches, but it's next to the Theater so it's easy. Now all that has to happen is for the rain to quit. Rain never happens here, so no one knows how to drive in it. Plus we have to walk a block and a half or so, doing that in the rain would be rather uncomfortable. Anyways, glad you're feeling better Ellen.

Hello all of my dear friends.

As you all know this is my busy time and like every other year I am swamped with year end everything. But I just had to pop in and touch base.

We had a wonderful Christmas - the best one in many years. Everyone was well, Jay (he's an engineer for the Union Pacific) was home (got off the train at midnight on the 23rd and didn't go back out till Saturday morning). We were all together except Katlin. She was with her family, but Matthew is flying out to San Diego tomorrow to be with her.

We are taking Doug's Dad out for dinner tomorrow night and then we are going home to hunker down for football and junk food. I can't wait! My dear Momma passed on New Year's day and it is a really hard day for us. I don't like to celebrate so we just usually spend it very quiet.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a great New Year. I will be back probably in a week or so. I will try to at least check in quick. I miss you all so much!

Ellen

Hi everyone!

Ellen - Thanks for checking in! Glad you had a wonderful Christmas and here's to an easier New Year's day for you.

It's New Year's eve here and hot! I'm hoping to make it to the fireworks tonight...but there are a bunch of chores for me to get through first. I'm really enjoying being at home and doing nothing....not thinking of w-o-r-k at all!

....ah feel yer payne....my DH bought an old Flexible Flyer 3 months ago at a flea market in Pa. and I decorated it with Christmas-themed greens, bow and ribbon, lights, and ornaments so we could send it to his sister in N. C. as a house-warming gift. Well, he mailed it on December 14, via USPS [BTW, we had a tracking number, which was totally USELESS!]; as of December 22, it went from Hackensack, N. J. to Jersey City, N. J. [they are about 20 miles from each other]....it was supposed to arrive at their home on December 19 but didn't get there until this past Saturday! I even tried calling the 800 number but was hung up on four times!! :badpc:

Well they do acknowledge their own ineptitude and say that you need to send things by like the 7th if you actually want it there by Christmas. It's a crazy stupid date that you have to use the mail system by, but I remember when we had a business that people wanted things shipped we were posting stuff on the website for checkout, that if you wanted it delivered before Christmas you had to order by such and such a date. We changed it daily because by two weeks before Christmas the Post Office could not promise deliver and you had to choose Fed Ex (we didn't use UPS in our store).

Sad as it is, it is the truth.
