The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Aimee, The Captains Grill in the Yacht Club has very good food. I think I would go with something like that. The "regular" rest. in the hotels.

I've never dined there but their menu looks delicious! Plus it'd be walking distance for us.

Aimee - After seeing the menu for Kouzzina, Cat Cora's new place, I'd go there in a heartbeat!

http://www.wdwmagic.com/Dining/Kouzzina/Menus.htm

*drool* Oh yeah, we'll definitely have to try that while there!!

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Last year we went to Jiko for Christmas dinner, but that's 2 credits. Is there someplace you haven't been before?

Some of my favorite restaurants at the resorts are Sanaa (don't know how many that is though), Boma, O'Hana and Whispering Canyon. The rest are either 2 or at a park. .

So you liked Sanaa? The menu looks tasty but the reviews are mixed (but aren't they all?) It's just a hassle to travel to AKL...

That is a tough one. If you have an in-park ADR, you'll need to be in that park before the park reaches capacity and stops admitting people. If your Mom was to meet you, that'd be an issue. If you have a resort ADR, and you leave to eat, you will not likely get back in to watch fireworks. (Although if you are planning for an 8pm meal, that won't be an issue anyways.)

I agree with Sheryl - try the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club, or another resort restaurant like Kona Cafe. A TS at a moderate might be a good option too.

Good thoughts! I really like Kona.

Okay, if you are avoiding the parks I would try to get an ADR at the Grand Floridian Cafe. WE were going to have dinner there when we were planning to go with the DXDDP. The menu looks very good and I think the reviews were as positive as reviews can be when reviewing a restaurant. Maybe you can get one late enough adn then se Wishes from the beach. there were openings here when other places were booked solid. It is not the first place that folks think about when making ADR's so you may have more flexibility when making your ADR.
If you are going to EPCOT I would try to get Rose and Crown. I liked it there a lot and if you are out on the patio the view is pretty. The food was good, simply prepared but very good. I do not know first hand but I have heard that if you are on the patio the view for Illuminations is gorgeous. Do CM's get a preference for seating from other CM's?

I didn't even think about GF Cafe! We had a fabulous lunch there a few years ago. Their menu looks good, and we could watch the fireworks from the beach. Hmmm.

Well, we are home with a little less wisdom (all 4 teeth to be exact).

Matthew is one sore puppy right now. The numbness was wearing off before we got home and to the Pharmacy for the pain pills. But he now has one safely in his tummy and ice on both sides of his face. He should feel better here in a few minutes. Oh how I hate to see him in so much pain.

Aimee ~ How about the Wave over at the Contmporary. I love this new place. And it would be close to the MK to be able to see the fireworks if you wanted to.

I hope he feels better soon  I've never had mine out but know people who have and it's not real pleasant, I know :scared:

I haven't tried the Wave yet - what did you like on their menu? I used to love Concourse and am sad it's gone :sad1:

Posting dinner and will BBL to chat.

We are eating at the Firemans Carnival in Broadbrook. Fair Food!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!

Chinese for lunch with eh kids. My goodness....I will need to exercise to counter this day!

A quick post for me. Costco cooked the chicken for tonight. I'm making baked potato and fruit.

For a day that was again supposed to be scattered showers it has been very rainy. I have to think of some way to style my frizzy hair. No one sitting behind me tonight will be able to see the screen. :lmao:

I'll tell you all how the movie went tomorrow morning.

I just came in from seeing Julie & Julia. Angelina & I both loved it, Meryl Streep really made me feel like I was seeing Julia Child! Really she was brilliant. Now I want to read the book & I need Child's The Art of French Cooking.

I've never dined there but their menu looks delicious! Plus it'd be walking distance for us.

*drool* Oh yeah, we'll definitely have to try that while there!!

Good thoughts! I really like Kona.

Aimee, We ate at Sanaa & thought it was very good.

DH made an ADR for Kouzzina in October!:cool1:

Well, we are home with a little less wisdom (all 4 teeth to be exact).

Matthew is one sore puppy right now. Sheryl ~ prayers for Alexis. That is EXACTLY how I felt on Sunday/Monday. Very hurt wounded and sensitive.

Have a great weekend everyone. It is suppose to be 100+ here this weekend so I plan on staying in where it is cool. I hope to get another day or 2 up real soon of my trip report.

Ellen, Poor Matthew! Poor kid, I hope you bought his favorite ice cream flavor!

How are you handling that at work? I know I'd have a very hard time with that co-worker of your's. Try to stay coo!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeh, hitting is a big one for me. I am not sure what I would do, her Pa would want to have a Camp David Summit and then punch the kid's parents. Marisa  would not good.

Girls are pretty filled with drama on a good day but when they are picked on, :dance3:. I still think I would try to find out what she was having a hard time with, and then see if you can help her to find a way to either shrug it off or at least protect herself from getting her feelings hurt. Poor kid :grouphug: I just want to hug her :grouphug:

Yeah I could tell you & Buddy would be on the same page as Bob & I! ;) Marisa would fuss at all of us!!

Alexis really is a drama queen, but don't worry Nana's going to make up for all of it next week! :goodvibes

Aimee, Nancy suggested Rose & Crown, we had a great meal there, a few trips back. We had actually gotten in to Epcot right before closing, in search of food. We were shocked that we walked (without an adr) up to R&C and the hostess sat us right away! Just in time to catch the fireworks too. We worried about keeping the waitress late, but she was so great about it, that it made the meal a special memory.

Hey Y'all, I forgot to talk about the sweet thing DearBob did! I had mentioned I was disappointed that we were missing Andrea Immer Robinson at F&W again this year. He called & made another resv at Saratoga! I'm not going to let him keep it, just too big of a splurge. But it sure was sweet!

Sheryl -- I'm so sorry Alexis didn't have a good camp experience. I do agree with Nancy that dealing with mean girls is unfortunately a part of life, and if Alexis is easily upset, they will pick on her more. That is a maturity thing though. Caili used to cry over every slight and bruise, but she is much better now. Now, if Liam is being mean (in her view) she will walk away and not play with him. She will also just come home if she doesn't like the way her friends are playing. That isn't to say the drama never unfolds. Yesterday, she was trying to skate her program and some of the bigger girls weren't paying attention and Caili had to keep trying to skate around them. Caili came off the ice and exploded into tears because the girls kept getting in her way. And they weren't even being mean on purpose!

Pa and I wanted to go and toss them off a bridge, Marisa said we could not
 If anyone starts picking on Caili, you can come toss him/her AND the kid's parents off a bridge. I won't mind. I don't know that anyone would try bullying her though. Greg keeps showing up at the school in uniform. ;)

If you are going to EPCOT I would try to get Rose and Crown.

Me too! We love Rose and Crown. The view for Illuminations is amazing and even if you aren't seated on the patio, they have a viewing area for all guests.

Ellen -- I hope Matthew is doing okay. I had to get all of mine out too...it wasn't a fun couple of days. Although, my mom made me smoothies with ice cream, fruit, yogurt, etc. That was pretty good.

I have to think of some way to style my frizzy hair. No one sitting behind me tonight will be able to see the screen. :lmao:
 For me, it is either ponytail or hat.

The kids wanted beer-battered cod tonight, so we had that, corn on the cob and a salad. It was nice to have a baseball-free evening. Liam's team plays tomorrow morning at 9:30. At last night's game, Caili found not one, but three, four-leaf clovers! I'm not sure she would have used her luck to help Liam's team win though. I pressed them for her, so hopefully, there is still some luck in there for her.

Laura, Poor Caili!:sad1: I think you should send Dad to the Ice Rink! ;)

I really don't know what to do with her softy attitude. Chris also worries about her being bullied. I hope it's something she'll outgrow.

Just getting time to post since I got back from the Dr. Same thing as what I had 6 months ago, bad ear infection. The antivert didn't work at all for me this time and my doc said it's now over the counter so he prescribed me a new vertigo drug. Hopefully it will work next time I need it. At least I'm able to walk today! I'd better be 100% for tomorrow & Sunday, got to finish up apartment shopping.:sad1:

Glad to hear this Kathy (that is that you'll feel better tomarrow). Good luck shopping :flower3:

Dinner tonight is take-out fried shrimp plate. We went out shopping for a new wine fridge. We have a state sales tax free holiday. The store we went to was also giving s rebate on the federal
tax. ( the repair man fried the old one.)

Kathy, I really hope u feel better tomorrow!

Well, we are home with a little less wisdom (all 4 teeth to be exact).

I feel for him, I had to have two differant extractions for 3 teeth. The first one they removed one tooth and did a biopsy of a cyst in the roof of my mouth. In the second they took two teeth and removed the cyst. I had to have a special plate in the roof of my mouth for several weeks until the excision site healed.

So you liked Sanaa? The menu looks tasty but the reviews are mixed (but aren't they all?) It's just a hassle to travel to AKL...

Yes I did.

I was going to suggest the Cafe but I have not been there yet. And just an FYI, the view of the fireworks from the Poly is nice too. ;)

Ended up going to dinner at Red Robin with a friend tonight, DM took care of the DN. We tried to find an all you can eat crab place but it seems most places around here aren't doing it any more and the two I did find had really bad reviews. I had thought about getting some and bringing them here but was too worried about my DN coming in contact with something.

Alright, I need to see it. Maybe tomorrow :goodvibes

I'm sorry  Some of the worst pain I've ever had was an ear infection. It's horrid.

You can get a wine fridge tax free?! Here it's just limited items, like clothing, shoes, school supplies. No good stuff like wine fridges

Well, friends, it appears I may be developing another autoimmune disease - psoriasis. I've had a weird skin thing going on for almost a year (I may have mentioned it?) and my GI told me last visit he thinks it's connected to the Crohns somehow but we upped my antibiotics just in case it would clear it up. Saw him for the scope 2 weeks after that visit and pointed out that it hadn't changed. He told me he's beginning to think it may be Psoriasis :sad2: It's very common for people with one autoimmune system to develop another. Tonight at the baby shower, a friend of mine with psoriasis was there and I flat out asked her about it. She gets the same thing behind her ears when she's flaring. :sad2:

Sucky way to end a week but what can I do :confused3 If the STOOOPID insurance company and pharmacy will figure out which end is up and send me the new medication I can make an appt to see him again and talk about how to handle that issue - since it won't be his area.

Re: Christmas Dinner - I've decided to make mom decide based on the list of options y'all suggested

Bon Jour mon ami Julie and Julia was absolutely fabulous. I think I would like to see several more times. If I could have the type of relationship Julia had with her Husband that would be the absolute topping on the cake.

Aimee I am sorry you are adding more health issues to the mix.

Kathy Hopefully you are getting on the other side of this.

It is a steam bath out there tonight. I just pulled my hair back in a pony tail. I put so much hair spray on I may wake myself everytime I roll over tonight. Crunch crunch.

I am going to try to get to the farmers market early tomorrow before the really hot weather comes in. I am so glad I am going to be painting this weekend. Why didn't I look at the forcast before I started this mess.

Morning all! Just got back from a very hot and sticky run. Blech! Finally cooled off somewhat and now I need to hop in the shower. We ended up going out for pizza last night after my sis took dd over to her house. Not sure WFD tonight. Don't have much in the fridge.

Okay, time to go hit the showers. I'm gross!

I'm sorry  Some of the worst pain I've ever had was an ear infection. It's horrid.

Well, friends, it appears I may be developing another autoimmune disease - psoriasis.

Luckily, this is the second time I've had an ear infection and didn't know it, no ear pain at all...:confused3 I just get the freaking vertigo, which is the most miserable feeling in the world.

I'm so sad to read you may have yet something else to deal with, you already have a full plate my friend.

From what I recall they had a very "hot & steamy" relationship...

Morning all! Just got back from a very hot and sticky run. Blech!

Good for you!!!!:thumbsup2 Totally O/T here but weren't you the one who suggested sushi at CG? If so we need to talk as we're on the DxDP and I would like to have sushi appetizer and entree that night, might need your suggestions. I've never had the sushi there!:goodvibes

Thanks for all of the well wishes, I'm feeling much better! Kyle is eagerly awaiting Mariah's return from her cruise today so I'm going to fix her favorite dinner tonight.....seared tuna over arugula with gorgonzola, mango & walnuts with a pepper jelly vinaigrette.

You & all foodies need to go see it! Here it's all tangible goods, excludes cars.

Bon Jour Mon Ami! It was a fun movie wasn't it!

I hope you figure out something besides crunch, crunch with your hair!

I was hoping to go to the market this morning & the Christmas Carol train. Woke up sky was blue, now it's raining hard!

Luckily, this is the second time I've had an ear infection and didn't know it, no ear pain at all...:confused3 I just get the freaking vertigo, which is the most miserable feeling in the world.

Kathy, I hope you feel better soon! The tuna apptz I had at CG was awesome! You're doing the deluxe DP?! Oooooh that should be fun! That dinner sounds awesome! Do you have a recipe for that vinaigrette?

Sheryl The theather we went to had a french cooking demo going before the show. We had appitizers before the show :thumbsup2

I need to get the sleepy head up and get to the farmers market.

Stephanie You amaze me I wish I could like running. My old joints would never go for that. I just do my cardio glide and hope for the best.

So guess what? Liam's team won again! They are playing for the championship tomorrow morning. The coach has been having the same kids pitch these games, so I don't know if Liam will get a turn tomorrow. This league doesn't have the same pitch count and rest requirements as Little League.

Laura, Poor Caili!:sad1: I think you should send Dad to the Ice Rink! ;)

Oh don't feel too badly for Caili. She completely over-reacted. I like to say she was tapping her inner diva. One of the coaches came over to make sure Caili was okay and I explained that she was just mad because girls were in her way. The coach rolled her eyes and asked, "Isn't she a little young for that?" The rink has been really quiet this summer, so Caili has grown used to having a lot of space. She is going to have to adjust her expectations starting in September.

Kathy -- I'm glad you are feeling better. Your dinner sounds wonderful!

Aimee -- I'm sorry you're potentially dealing with more health issues. Grr on the insurance! I hope you get your medications soon.

We're having flounder tonight, but I haven't figured out the whole meal yet.

Do you have a recipe for that vinaigrette?

Drive to Rouse's and buy it, it's Zea's and we LOVE it!!!!:rotfl:

So guess what? Liam's team won again! They are playing for the championship tomorrow morning. The coach has been having the same kids pitch these games, so I don't know if Liam will get a turn tomorrow. This league doesn't have the same pitch count and rest requirements as Little League.

WOW, way to go!!! They're really on a winning streak! Good luck tomorrow.:cheer2:

Kathy- I am so sorry that you have an ea infection. I have only had one and I was miserable. The pain went away but I was a mess and lost hearing in one ear. Has your Dr given you a decongestant? Donny had a sever case of vertigo and was given an antivert drug. It went on for some time so the Dr gave him a decongestant and the vertigo cleared up. I hope that you ae better soon

Sheryl- I'm glad we are on the same Nana page. Poor little sweetie, I know you will make it all up to her this week. I cannot tell Buddy she was sad, he automatically thinks that kids bully so he will have a battle plan in place.''Your Bob is such a good guy!

Steph- a run in this weather??????????:worship::worship:

Laura- I am so glad for Liam! And I understand Caili.....Kady would be upset as well. She probably would not cry...she would ask to go home and that would be the end of that. I am totally with Greg. When Donny ws in school he was bullied and lets just say that the Principal was a jerk about it. Buddy would take Donny to school, get out of his truck and glare. He watched Donny walk into school every day. If he could not take him he had his nephew take him. I don;t know if it helped but short of murder...which he considered...actually he wanted to stuff the ringleader down a sewer ...he could not think of any other way to help him. When he takes Kady to school he won't drop her off at the door. No. He parks and walks her all the way to her room and then watches her go to the play yard. He is positive that if something happened in teh hallway not on teacher would go to her rescue :confused3

Janice- Crunch crunch.......I feel your hair pain. I just had mine done and hpefully it will not be a frizzzy mess the way it has been for forever.

Aimee- I bet your Mom will choose a great place! The fireworks during the Holidays are magnificent! I watched Illuminations twice, Marisa adn Jeff went back but I stayed to see it, the Holiday portion is awesome. Christmas WIshes if pretty as well adn is a different show from teh daily show. Either one would be perfect to see on Christmas Night.

I have no words for your new ailment. I cannot imagine dealing with this my friend so I can only send :hug:

We are going to Six Flags tonight with Kady and her friend. YUCH! I had a late lunch so I don't need to eat too much there, the food is awful! The girls will eat a lot though. Last night they declared they only wanted popcorn Then one agreed to eat a hot dog and they split an order of the worst fries I have ever had. Then they split a fried dough with butter and sugar, ate the center and gave me the rest. They refused ice cream, played a few games and declared they were bored. So we tried to take them miniature golfing but the place was closed. So we were treated to a Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert for the entire drive home :woohoo:WHen they did not know the words they just made them up :rotfl:

Ooh, your dinner sounds delish! What time should I be there? :)

Stephanie You amaze me I wish I could like running. My old joints would never go for that. I just do my cardio glide and hope for the best.

I can't run, either, and am jealous of those with fantastic calf muscles due to running!

So guess what? Liam's team won again! They are playing for the championship tomorrow morning. The coach has been having the same kids pitch these games, so I don't know if Liam will get a turn tomorrow. This league doesn't have the same pitch count and rest requirements as Little League.

:yay: Liam!! Even if he doesn't get to pitch, it's still fun to be part of a winning team :yay:

DH is coming in tonight but thinks it'll be late... I thought about hitting a few stores today and may just grab something out. Right now, I'm still in my PJs watching House on DVD.
