The Welcom that President Bush was going to give Clinton.

I am comforted by the temporary resident thing.

I, for one, am glad that the President was gracious to Clinton. After all, President Clinton was gracious to Bush when his portrait was unveiled.

There is a time and place for politics, but there is also a time when politics should be set aside.

I actually agree with you. President Bush was absolutely gracious and polite, as he should be. In retrospect, Jimmy Carter, when asked to weigh in on the passing of President Reagan had to grope for words. He appeared petty and less than gracious.

Jimmy Carter "Petty and less gracious"? I assume you have
some data to back that up. Hardly words to describe one of
the most gracious and giving leaders we have ever had.

Here's a link to what Carter said on Sunday

not petty and certainly statesmanlike and gracious

Jimmy Carter said that he would have no formal response to Reagan's death. "I certainly know as well as anyone what a formidible communicator and campaigner he was, It was because of him that I was retired from my last job". I would also take the world "LEADER" out of my description of him. He may have been president but a leader is not a description that fits.

I agree. Bush was gracious. I also agree with Bush when he said Clinton "filled the White House with energy and 'joy'" :smooth:

DawnCT, I'm not finding any reference to the Leader remarks attributed to Carter. Can you find a reference?

Dawn-
If you read the articles-I've just read several- Carter said he
would make no formal statement after his Sunday School class
on sunday. The remarks he had already made were made prior
and in his class attended by about 300 people.
George HW Bush sent Jimmy Carter abroad to watch questionable
elections and consulted him about diplomacy on more than a
few occassions. You clearly want to color his reputation with your
opinions and not facts. I'm way over you and your debate techniques; techniques being a questionable word to describe
your posts. Wasn't it you in another post who objected to
bashing? What is it you have just done here?

Petty and less than gracious?

Dawn, that clearly does not describe Carter. It does describe someone else I can think of.

Which post would that be? Observing questionable elections and being a leader are clearly two different things. I remember the Jimmy Carter of the late 70's who sequestered himself in the White House until the Iranian "students" agreed to release our hostages. I remember the Jimmy Carter preciding over the "malaise in America" that included double digit unemployment, 19% home mortgages and double digit inflation. He had his opportunity to lead and he failed to do so. He should stick to building houses. He is good at that.

Pretty transparent aren't they?

Obviously Dawn, you so despise every Democrat that it wouldn't matter who it was, what they said or what they did, you'd find a way to turn it into a negative.

With such a closed mind, it's impossible to have an intelligent, honest debate with you. Your posts are rarely anything but attempts to bash Democrats.

But hey, whatever rocks your boat is fine with me, I just wouldn't want you to think you're actually fooling anyone.

Let me see here, and your sole purpose in life is to praise Republicans. Do I have my facts right?

I agree with Dawn's assessment of Carter when she said:

<i>I remember the Jimmy Carter of the late 70's who sequestered himself in the White House until the Iranian "students" agreed to release our hostages. Does anyone have anything to disprove any of these things? While it's my OPINION, I believe the hostages were released because of Reagan. Carter had NOTHING IMO to do with it!

Thankfully President Bush was very polite and gracious durring the Clintons' visit to nthe White House and there was no obvious animosity durring an occassion that every President will be on both sides of and has earned.

Also, I saw absolutely nothing petty or otherwise unstately in
President Caryer's remarks.
