The plans for the weekend were:
Friday night we were going to go out for dinner, take the computer to Best Buy to get fixed and watch Battlestar Galactica. Verify that DH's sister and neice got into town ok and confirm up dinner plans for Saturday night.
Saturday, DD11 had production practice in the morning. Get the oil changed. DS13 and DD's basketball games in the afternoon, afterwards leaving and heading to the in-laws for dinner plans. After dinner, hang out and visit with SIL, who we haven't seen since Oct 2007, and our neices.
Sunday, do stuff around the house. Watch the Purdue mens ball game in the afternoon, then watch the Playoff games. Relax and take it easy.
What actually took place:
Around 11 Friday morning, I get DH to the emergancy room. Has a sharp, constant pain in his lower left back and side. Same feel and place as from the kidney stone pain he had 2 years ago. So, we sit and they do what they need to do. About 2:30, they tell us it's not a kidney stone, but DH will be parting company with his appendix.
I go out to the lobby and start calling everybody to let them know what is going on. School was cancelled Friday, so my mom went and picked up DS and DD to take them to her house. Call work and let them know I wouldn't be back in. Call our neice who is an RN, she said she would come up when they do the surgery. Call the in-laws house, no answer. Called the neice who had just got into town with her mom, to see if they were with the in-laws. Yes they were, they had just stopped to get a bite to eat, they had been at the emergancy room with MIL for the last couple of hours. Find out what is up with MIL, who is 82. She's had a cold for almost 2 weeks and she was getting pains in her head. She went to her docs, but he sent her over to the ER, where they did a CT. Everything looks ok and she's to take it easy and to check back with her reg doc, if the pain continues. So, I finally get to tell her what is up with DH. Let her know that he had already said that the in-laws just needed to stay home, it was too cold for them to be out trapsing around. Told the neice and sil, since they had already spent the first part of their day at the ER, they didn't need to come up either.
Got back into the ER room, let DH know about his mom. Around 3:30 find out they will be doing the surgery at 7 p.m.. Called the neice who is going to come up and sit with me, she said she'd call the rest of that family. Called my parents, let them know and talk to the kids. I was waiting to find out times, before I went to get something to eat. Once I knew, I went got some food from the hospital cafe, which was really good and didn't cost a whole lot either. Sat with DH and watched Tora, Tora, Tora and something else while we waited for him to go to surgery. Our neice showed up about 6:15 and they wheeled DH down to the surgery ward about 6:30. 7:45, the surgeon lets me know it went ok and that they were able to do the laparoscopic. Finally around 8:50, they get us and DH is taken up to his room. God bless our neice, she hung out until DH was settled, then she took off. DH wanted me to stay, so I stayed with him until a little after 10, then I left. Did Taco Bell drive thru and got some dinner, then headed home. Finally hit the pillow at 11:15.
Saturday mom took DD to dance, then both the kids to their ball games. DD won, made four baskets. DS didn't, but he had two steals and 1 blocked shot. Per DH's instructions, I stopped on the way to the hospital and got the oil changed. I had slept in, so I didn't get up to the hospital until just before 11. We sat and watched basketball. DH ate his liquid lunch, I ate at the cafe. Around 2, the surgeon came in and checked DH over and said they would be releasing him that evening. Made the round of calls letting everybody know he would be getting to go home. Mom brought DD up to the hospital, she wanted to take care of her dad. DS stayed at the grandparents - he wants nothing to do with hospitals. It was about 5:45 when DH got released. Stopped and got his scripts filled and food for DD and I, and once we actually got him home, he made himself a nest in the recliner. DD was a huge help. She stayed with her dad, while I ran to the store to get stuff he would be able to eat. Once I got back home, I put my feet up and moved only to help DH up or get him some water.
Sunday is the only day the orginal plans didn't change.
I sure don't want another weekend like this anytime soon. Heres hoping no one else had their weekend turned upside down and inside out.
