Wow! Just how fast can a weekend zoom by? Go to FtW and you will know. (I don't have many pictures - but will post them later.)
We checked in on Thursday & waited in line for about 30-40 minutes. When it was finally my turn I asked the CM what was taking so long she said their computers were operating erratically. Yikes!!! There were 4 lanes open and each one was moving slowly. I expressed my concerns about GC rentals holding the lines up & she assured me that wasn't the problem. Okay...we get thru & head to site 912! (Wasn't that Big Kahuna's site over Labor Day?) I had called early Thurs morning to request a site in 1600, but it didn't work out. No problems. On a short weekend trip we really don't care which site we're in.
On Thursday I hung with Carol for a bit. She is the most awesome camper, I swear!! I always enjoy seeing her.
Friday I was looping and found Shanta Claus on the 500 loop! As his pictures show, he is the "real deal" Santa & is very concerned that he does not neglect any child that crosses his path. He and Mary are both lovely people and are real keepers in my book!
Saturday afternoon I got a text message from Ami saying "We're here - site 2002". I made a bee-line to her site and found 3 beautiful children creating artwork in chalk on the pad. Her DH was busy fixing the tires on the youngest one's bike - the most excellent dad!! What a beautiful family!
The Fort was basically full this weekend. The reno's on 1200 loop were completed Friday morning & by mid-afternoon the campers were pulling in. It was full by Friday nite.
The 400 loop reno's look great, but it didn't appear to me that they moved the power hook-up's to the back like they did in other loops.
We just sort of layed low this weekend. We went to Epcot Thursday nite and it was very busy and ccccold!! We walked around, ate dinner at the walk-up in China, walked around some more, and left.
Friday, we made a trip to find the Whole Food store on Turkey Lake Dr. & was I impressed! It's a HUGE organic/health food store and full of unusual and unique items. It is definitely a place worth driving to from my house (30+ miles) to stock up on good stuff once or twice a month. For those of you who have met me, you know I'm not a health nut of any kind. However, the meats, seafood & produce and varied selections of unusual condiments caught my attention. The sort of things that Emeril and Alton Brown uses in their cooking - and that I'd like to use in mine. I'm probably going to make a trip there this Friday without the Hubby & really do some serious shopping! The rest of the day on Friday we looped a lot, hung out on the porch, caught up with some winter people we didn't think would be there this year, and just basically relaxed.
Saturday we went into Animal Kingdom around 10am. By the looks of the parking lot you would have expected wall to wall people. It was pretty busy, but not over-crowded. We left around 1pm & headed back to the CG. We just looped on and off the rest of the day. I headed into the MK around 5pm by myself to see the lighting of the castle & get some pictures. This is one castle decoration I wish they'd leave up year round. It is the most beautiful creation Disney's ever come up with. Rick & I will be going back Saturday nite so he can see the show.
Sunday morning we looped all over, drove to McDonald's at Crossroad's for breakfast, came back & packed up & pulled out by 10:45. What is normally a 30-35 minute drive turned into an hour & a half because of an incident on I-4. Apparantly a dead body was found in the median just west of US Hwy 27 and they narrowed the lanes down from 3 to 2 while the sheriff dept, coroner's office, crime scene investigators and news media did their jobs. On the 11 O'Clock news they said that the dead person was apparantly murdered elsewhere & dumped in the median after the fact.
So...that was our weekend at FtW. Just a sit back, kick back, do nothing 3 days. It felt good!
