The week before or after Thanksgiving?

We are new to this time of the year and crowds are my main concern. With rumors of FD (which we want!)we can move our date to week after thanksgiving if we want. I know weekends will be worse and before thanksgiving we will be there for more weekend dates then we would like.

So what your vote? Before or after thanksgiving!?

We have done both- and enjoy both weeks. Crowds and weather are great. The week before Thanksgiving I find it easier to swim for afternoon breaks and to find ADRs. The weeks after is traditionally free dining- and finding ADRs anywhere is quite difficult. Both week have some crowds- so not dead. The week before the crowds get progressively greater leading up to Thanksgiving and the week after they get progressively thinner as you leave the weekend. My opinion is if either swimming and some popular dining options are a must (character meals, Ohana, Be out Guest, etc) than I would go the week before.

We've done both and I can recommend either of them; we are DVC members and aren't eligible for free dining, but of course are still affected by it with regard to ADRs. We do a lot of breakfasts in our room and don't have any issues with counter service meals if ADRs are tough to come by. The weather can be wonderful or quite chilly, so keep that in mind with regards to swimming if that's important to you.

F&W stretches into the week before, so I doubt FD will be available that week. Crowds should be similar, though.

If it matters to you - holiday decorations may not be completed the week before Thanksgiving.

I would choose after to take advantage of all the holiday offerings, like Candlelight Processional and storytellers around WS in Epcot, and all the resorts will be done decorating. It is usually a decent crowd time, and great if FD is available. We have come in the week of/weekend before Tday and stayed till Tuesday/Wed after (coordinating with FD and school schedules!) and it was great from Sun on as people went home from the holiday break. If our kids were younger and could miss more school , we would have stayed that week.

My friend and I are debating the same thing, I think we're leaning towards the week after. We figure if we wanna see the Christmas stuff might as well wait until after Thanksgiving so we can do it all. Plus now with Universal doing Christmas with Harry Potter, we have to do it.

We're not so worried about it being too cold to go swimming, we're Canadian and the jokes are you can always spot the Canadians in the winter months as we're the only ones in the pools  All though I'm sure we'd be joined by our neighbors from the Northern States.

I agree about the week after so you can see the resorts decorated plus the Holidays Around the World and CP at Epcot.

I think I may have been swayed to week after thanksgiving. Guess we will wait and see what the FD date are!

I agree that the week after would be best.
Unfortunately for me, that is a "no time off requests honored" week at my job.
So we are going the week before!
