Well, it's now 5 weeks from today that some of us (crazy as we are) decide to go for a jog through the parks in a large (14,000) bunch.

My question is : who else is going and where are we all staying?
We will be at VWL for our first trip to our home resort. We are ALL really excited - even the three of us who are going for moral support only.:cool1: :cool1:

I am only doing the half marathon.

My family and I will be staying at OKW.

We're also staying at VWL (arriving 1/1 and leaving 1/12). Husband is doing the 1/2. Son and I are doing the 5K on Saturday. We plan on doing some walking/running from WL to FW while we are there to keep active. We love running down Hotel Blvd thru DTD and back. When we stay at OKW in Oct, we plan to go from OKW to DTD and back. We have also gone from GF to TTC and through the parking lot to get the miles in. Also around CS resort. Done the BCV to Disney Studios via International Gateway, Boardwalk and S/D.

This is our first stay at VWL, too. We kept using those points for other trips. But we banked them and got enough for this trip.

When do y'all arrive?

Hubby and my sister are doing the marathon. We are going to be at Vero in a Beach Cottage the 3rd-7th then on to BWV in a Grand Villa the 7th-12th.

BWV is an awesome place to view the marathon!

We are trying to get the family to do the 5K on Saturday... I figured if I can walk it anyone can, as I pretty much only have one speed... turtle speed!

Good luck to all!

At least you will have plenty of room.

Good luck in the race.

We're taking his whole family and we actually won't even be staying in the master bedroom... (I know!!!! No one can believe that we are giving that room to his parents!)

It should be a fun time though as our neice is 3 so she will be more into things now!

Don't feel bad Tracy, we are doing the same this June at VB, giving the in-laws(79+80) the Master BR. We figure we will have 38 more years to use it.::yes::

Good luck to all of you that are doing the WDW marathon. I had so much fun doing the the 1995 one - proudly finishing with an overall place of 5709. Obviously no world record, but I felt as if I had won. Then they did not have a 1/2 marathon. If only my knees would allow me to do it again. We stayed at the GF as it was pre DVC for us. I understand the elite runners were also staying at the GF that year. My DH actually LOL when they asked me if I was an elite runner so they could direct the runners to the correct bus. The "guys" on the bus really teased me about my DH seeing me off as their wives peacefully snored. It was a delightful start to a memorable day. I would like to do the marathon again someday, but the next time as a volunteer.
Again, I wish you good luck, good health and good weather. Enjoy!

DisneyMeMa,

DH and I volunteered last year when my sister ran her first marathon at Disney. I would highly recommend it! It was awesome as we were on the start up crew.

Our work fininshed early so we moved over to help the people putting the medals together.

I came back and got to put the medal on my sister when she finished. Very cool! (Plus we got a free park ticket and a cute jacket to boot! And all the runners kept thanking us all day long which made getting up at that unholy hour all worh it!)

This year I may be volunteering solo as DH and DS are doing the marathon... I am not that brave! Short and square does not a fast or pretty runner make!

Good luck to everyone. By the time I decided I could do it, it was full (obviously a sign from above that I needed more training time). I'll see you all there for 2005!

Hey everyone! We'll be there on Friday before the marathon. My son just expressed a strong interest in doing the Saturday 5K race. He's a track runner in high school and just finished his cross country season. He would love to run at DW.

How do I sign him up for this race on Saturday? Where does that one start? We are staying at the BCV's. Do you get a tshirt? :D and is there a cost?

Please let me know if we need to sign up for this?

You can get more info on the 5K (and register) here:

We got a very cute t-shirt last year. It starts in the Epcot parking lot just like the marathon. (I had to face it, doing this baby was the ONLY way *I* was gettin' across that marathon finish line!)

They even have the photographers there too. (You can order pics online) It was really fun and made me feel like an athlete!!! (They also have kids races and give medals for those)

Good luck!

Tracy

The 5K has a Brother Bear theme. And you get a T-shirt. If you register before 12/26, the cost is $20. After, $25. The 5K is not timed or scored.

Actually, though it is not timed or scored "officially", they do have the clock running. If you get your pic taken the clock is sometimes included in the pic.

I only know this because I had an awful time (58 minutes!!! I walked S...L...O...W... but did make my goal of under an hour! :D )

Lesroy, thanks for that link. It says you pick up your packet on Friday...we won't be arriving till about 6:30 pm at MCO on Friday night, doing a grocery stop (towncar) and then arriving at BCV's at about 8:00sh. What do we do if we don't have a car? Are we out of luck?

Whew, you may be cutting it close. I don't think there is race day pickup but you can pick up Friday until 8PM. Maybe if you contact the email address on the site they can tell you if they usually stay a bit past 8.
Perhaps one of you could get dropped off with your son at the WWOS complex while the towncar takes your party to the resort. Then you could take a bus back? Heck, if we waited to pick up our packets, we could drive ya! But I know my hubby will just be itching to get his marathon stuff! I think he picks that up on the same day, same place.

Good luck! Hope you can experience it. Not ever having been a runner, I thought it was just fabulous!

Tracy

DH is running again this year. He wanted to do the full again, but will be going for the 1/2 instead. He had cancer, as well as hernia surgery this year which put a huge kink in his training to say the least! If he can still do the half, I think it's amazing after what he dealt with this year. His best friend is going with us and running his first full marathon. We will be at the BWV that weekend.

Good luck to all those running this year! We will be there cheering you on!! (we're staying at OKW)

The travel agent for the 1/2 Triathalon in May 2004 has some really good deals on Park Admission. My DH was considering the 1/2 Tri so I checked into it and received an email from the TA with the prices.

Has anyone purchased this type of park ticket before for athletic events? I know they have an expiration date but was wondering how long are they usually good for? Any experience would be greatly appreciated. The TA is ordering these passes directly from Disney in April 2004 so they were not able to tell me.

Anthony Travel is the official TA for this event. Thanks FloridaFam for posting the original link.

LIFERBABE,

Thanks for the info. Those do seem like pretty good prices. I did check out the website but didn't e-mail for ticket prices or anything. DH is registered for the 1/2 Ironman we will be at the WL in May. We can't wait. There are almost 2,000 people signed up so far.

Good luck to everyone doing the marathon and 1/2 marathon!
:D
