I had made all my adrs for the week of November 11-17 and my son (16) wonderd why we didn't have a non character breakfast buffet. At this time he feels he's too old for this but loves breakfast buffets so after some searching I found THE WAVE at the contemporary resort. Has anyone been there for breakfast? How was the food/service. The only reason I chose this is due to the fact that my mother (70) will be with us and will be using a scooter. I'm trying to avoid alot of on/off the buses. Figured we will take a bus to mk, walk over to the contemporary resort then take the monorail to epcot. If anyone has any pics that would be great!!!

I've not been impressed by the Wave. We had breakfast there a while back, but I have no input on the current buffet.

That being said, we frequently do the breakfast - buffet available as well as a la carte - at Captain's Grille in the Yacht Club. It's always been a pleasant start to the day.

You could take the bus to DHS, ride the boat over to the YC, then after breakfast just scoot along the water and enter Epcot through the back gate.

The Wave breakfast buffet was excellent. the selection was better than chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace.

I never thought I'd like cheese grits, but I do!

I'll definitely take a look at there menu. We had done the character breakfast there at chef mickeys but I was not thrilled at the food choices and felt like I was in a cafeteria. But we're avoiding character breakfasts this time.

It's wonderful. They use local ingredients and it's to die for! It's on our must do list for sure! Enjoy!

Thanks for your input. It was tough finding a good breakfast buffet that was NOT a character breakfast. With the onset of fd this will be the first time doing the reg dining. I did qs the last time I went and was totally fine with it. Having to make all these adrs is nuts!!!! I know this may sound crazy but I wish you had a choice of qs or ddp when staying at a mod. resort. Not a big ts person but I think iv managed to to make my adrs without forcing us to leave any of the parks while were there.

DW and I tried it for the first time in June and enjoyed it. The food didn't seem as mass produced as the character buffets.

Boma at AKL has a great breakfast buffet-no characters. I love it so much that I always make a trip there every visit even when not staying at AKL.

The Wave and CG both have menu and buffet options; Boma is buffet-only so it has a much bigger selection.

We thought the Wave was very good; sweet potato pancakes and pecan butter were the standouts. We love Boma breakfast on a non-park day because getting there using Disney transport does take up a lot of time.

CG's biggest problem for you is logistical. Getting a scooter on a bus to DHS then a boat to YC takes some serious time, and IIRC the boats don't begin to run until at least 8 am. Realistically you shouldn't count on arriving at CG until at least 8:30 and it could be closer to 9 am. I can't tell you about CG's regular breakfast - we did eat there in May but it was Mothers Day so they had a hugely expanded brunch buffet, not the regular breakfast offerings. It was good but I think The Wave might have been tastier when comparing just the breakfast items.

IMHO, The Wave is the BEST breakfast buffet on property (I don't care what anyone says;))...food is excellent as well as the service, we've even gotten to know some of the service from frequenting this breakfast so much, this is our ONLY breakfast must do each trip!

Feel free to check out my review with photos...

Our Favorite Breakfast Buffet - The Wave

P.S. I can't say enough about their grits...they are so good that everywhere I go (even outside of WDW) I find myself comparing their grits to The Wave's and NONE come close, wish I can find the recipe!! They are A M A Z I N G!!!

From all the pictures I have seen, the Wave breakfast looks so much tastier than Chef Mickey's...and it's a lot cheaper. We are hoping to try it on our upcoming trip. But like other's have said we LOVE Boma too.

For those of you who have been there is it very crowded, do you think we'd be able to walk up early in the morning without an ADR?

Completely agree! Not to mention it is a lot less crowded, due to it flying under the radar;)

Thanks everyone, I think iv made the right choice. I originally picked the wave because of the transportation with my mom's scooter. We're going into epcot that day and was trying to figure which would work the best with not so much on and off the buses. This will work the best:thumbsup2

We really enjoyed The Wave when we went a little over a year ago. It was delicious. :thumbsup2

We had the buffet in May and it was delicious. Everything was fresh and tasty. The sweet potato pancakes are to die for!

Thank you for posting this review. I will definitely try the grits. We don't get to eat this dish in New England much and of the ones we did there was nothing special about it. It was my son that was pushing me about finding a non character breakfast buffet. The only time we have gone to the contemporary resort was for chef mickeys which he hated. So every time we go back I always mention the contemporary resort but he thinks I'm trying to get him to go back to chef mickeys so he refuses to even step foot in there. Going through the hotel in the monorail is ok lol. I'm so glad ,after showing him these reviews, that he can see there's other restaurants to try in this resort.

NOTE: This is a new location for a breakfast buffet. The buffet has
significantly increased its variety, and now is very much worth the visit.
At just under $20 per adult, it is extremely reasonable for a WDW
buffet. For breakfast, it's probably the best-kept dining secret.
it has Mickey waffles and delicious sweet potato pancakes. They use
local fresh fruit and vegetables. For those with a smaller appetite, one
can do the usual ala carte breakfast menu.

This is the reason why I have picked this restaurant. We will probably get fd for our vacation and was undecided if this or VIA napoli would be better to pay oop. I already have all my adrs in place when my son noticed that I had not made any breakfast buffet adrs. We did get grand floridian cafe and kona cafe which are not buffets. He loves bacon so this works great. Hope more people give this restaurant a shot. Especially when older kids who don't want to go to character breakfast anymore.
