Hello DISers,
For those of you in the SF Bay Area in June, you might be interested in these special events at The Walt Disney Family Museum - especially if you are a Disney animation fan or enjoyed the documentary "Waking Sleeping Beauty".

Innovations in Animation: Sound, Color, and Depth
3:00 pm, Theater
Walt Disney tested new technologies in the Silly Symphonies and produced animated shorts with sound, color, and depth. Russell Merritt, professor of Film Studies at Berkeley and co-author of Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies, will discuss Music Land, Flowers and Trees, and The Old Mill among other groundbreaking shorts.
Russell Merrit was at the Pinocchio presentation by Disney Historian, J. B. Kaufman. I believe they co-wrote the Silly Symphonie book and a book on Walt Disney's silent films titled "Walt in Wonderland". He seemed very friendly and personable. After his presentation, I am confident there will be a showing of some of the Silly Symphonies. When was the last time you saw these on the large screen?

Firsts in Animation: A Look Back and Forward with Don Hahn
3:00 pm, Theater
Learn how Walt took risks that pushed the boundaries in the industry and changed animation forever. Film producer and director Don Hahn discusses "firsts in animation" and highlights the new technological and artistic developments in the industry.
Don Hahn is a rock star in the Disney animation world. He is part of the team responsible for the second golden age of Disney animation with "The Little Mermaid", "The Lion King", "Aladdin", etc. He also co-produced the documentary "Waking Sleeping Beauty". Since there was not a panel for the film in San Francisco as there was in other parts of the country, this is a not-to-be-missed event for Disney animation fans. I am sure this will sell out quickly.
Tickets can be purchased at the museum website $8/museum members; $10/public. Can't beat that! I hope to see some DISers there!
