SpaHopper, do you have a spa treatment recommendation? Do they offer deep tissue-type massages? I am going to have to book a spa treatment (or two?) We can't wait to try B&B. Would you compare it to a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse?

Hi they have a government rate box does anyone know if this is good fr teachers like at the swan / dolphin?
Thanks.

You should call and ask if they'll extend a discount to teachers, the number is: 1-888-353-2009. Since they are a new resort they are offering excellent promotional rates this year, so I would highly recommend inquiring:thumbsup2.

WDWKOOK, thanks so much!!

You're welcome:).

You're welcome. If you can't get a teacher's discount, they have some really fantastic deals going on this year. Just click-on the "packages" section of the WA or HBC website. Good luck!

If this was sitting where BLT or BCV/BWV is, we would give it a shot. :wizard:

Thanks for all the great info. :thumbsup2

I would highly recommend the Waldorf Astoria Imperiale Massage and as for a facial the Exceptional Orchidee Facial is the most pampering thing you can do to your body..with the use of the product after 28 days you can remove 50% of fine lines and wrinkles..truly an amazing experience

And as for B&B i'd compare it to the one in new york..it far surpasses Ruth Chris but i'd says its on par with Abe and Louie's

Can't wait to read about those treatments on their website - they sound :cloud9:. And, B&B sounds like it will be a real treat. Do you know if they will post menus? Also, do you know which restaurants will require reservations? TIA!

Waldorf Astoria Orlando: Our taste of Big Apple luxury

Hotel resort opens Thursday near Walt Disney World

There was the woman who got married at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The one who danced with her father there, decades ago. And the one who had her first cocktail in the world-famous Park Avenue hotel.

Stories like those are popping up a lot in Orlando these days, as Hilton Worldwide prepares to open what is only the second Waldorf Astoria in the world on a large piece of land wedged between Interstate 4 and Walt Disney World.

To the staff of Waldorf Astoria Orlando at Bonnet Creek, it seems that nearly everyone they meet has a connection to the original Waldorf in midtown Manhattan.

That's not an easy act to follow.

"Everyone in America, I think, knows the Waldorf in New York," said Rosie Feinberg, interior designer for the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. The challenge in building another one, she said, was to "pay attention to the history and do it justice in a new location."

As Feinberg and others developed every detail of the new hotel during the past few years, their goal was to answer this question: What happens when a historic, urban, gilded hotel takes a vacation?

"We tried to contemporize it to today's world and the area that we're in," Feinberg said.

The art-deco lobby so well-known to New York corporate executives and international heads of state got a refreshing makeover in its Orlando versions. Cool marble floors shine underfoot; a dramatic domed ceiling soars above with light blue accents. Instead of a view of the city, guests have a view — at almost every turn — of the golf courses and sprawling pools outside.

Familiar sound
The ornate lobby clock of New York fame was remodeled in Orlando with rich woods and nickel accents. Sticking to tradition, the clock chimes every 15 minutes — with the same ring heard in New York. Hotel officials say the original Waldorf's focus on catering to its guests remains the same, too.

"Our service has to be seamless, impeccable — has to create the most memorable experiences," General Manager R. Michael King said. "That's what New York was all about."

There are other threads woven into the Bonnet Creek hotel that tie it undeniably to its New York namesake, including the Bull & Bear Steakhouse, Peacock Alley, the dark paneling of Sir Harry's Lounge. And like the Park Avenue property, which opened in 1931 in the midst of the Great Depression, the Waldorf Astoria Orlando is throwing open its doors during tough economic times.

As for room rates, the hotels' Web sites show rooms available this fall in Orlando starting at about $200, compared with nearly double that in New York. But rooms may not always be cheaper here. Orlando rates climb to about $330 in March, when rooms in New York can be booked for as low as $240.

"This is likely the most difficult time that any of us will have seen in our lifetime, as far as opening a new hotel, particularly one that is positioned at the high end," said Mark Woodworth, president of PKF Hospitality Research in Atlanta. With a stigma around luxury and a backlash against business meetings, "You have more rooms opening up at the exact same time there's fewer people looking to rent hotel rooms. That's a worst-case scenario."

In a time when business travel is suffering, the Waldorf Astoria is opening alongside a brand new 1,000-room Hilton, and the two hotels will share 150,000 square feet of convention and meeting space. The development is tucked in a pocket of land near Walt Disney World called Bonnet Creek Resort. Surrounded on three sides by Disney, Bonnet Creek was never sold to the theme-park company when Disney secretly began acquiring thousands of acres in the area in the 1960s.

Though he knows the economy will prove challenging, King hopes the hotel will bring a new type of clientele to Orlando. He's excited about the next few years of development, including the introduction of Universal's Harry Potter attraction and an overhaul of Walt Disney World's Fantasyland. "The next foreseeable five or six years are going to be dynamic in Orlando," he said. "We're here at an opportune moment when that's happening."

According to Woodworth, whose company forecasts hotel business in dozens of markets, including Orlando, things could start looking up for area hotels as early as the end of 2010. The recovery in Orlando's lodging market should begin to surface in 2011, he said.

"I would expect given its location, given the strength of the Waldorf brand, that it should quickly evolve into a very formidable competitor there in Orlando," Woodworth said.

Branching out
The Waldorf Astoria Orlando was also a chance to create a number of firsts for the hotel brand: the first resort. The first golf course. The first Waldorf patio furniture designed to withstand Florida hurricanes.

"We're going to combine the old with the new," said Peter Kacheris, managing director of the Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort.

And as the hotel pays homage to the Waldorf history — with one hallway dedicated to displaying the historical events that have occurred at the original Waldorf Astoria — it is also making some of its own, said Kacheris.

"We're respectfully looking at the traditions but adjusting to the times," Kacheris said. "We will never be, nor do we want to be, the Waldorf Astoria in New York. We are a part of their legacy."

Exclusive Waldorf Astoria Opens In Orlando

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The brand new Waldorf Astoria Orlando opened its doors to guests Thursday morning at 10:00am, and the upscale hotel is bringing along thousands of jobs with it.

With a down economy, it might seem strange to welcome such a high-end resort, but between the new Waldorf Astoria and the adjacent Hilton hotel there are nearly 1,500 hundred rooms and almost one job for every room.

Thursday morning marks the grand opening of two hotels at the Bonnet Creek Resort, the 1,000 room Hilton and the Waldorf Astoria with 497 luxury rooms.

The 10:00am ribbon cutting ceremony marked the first time the Waldorf Astoria name has been hung outside of New York City, where the original hotel opened 78 years ago to the day.

The luxury resort has already hired more than 800 employees and plans to add 600 more, reaching a total of 1,400 employees.
"This is Hilton's largest development in their history, so this started nine years ago in the making [and] it is from construction, two and a half years," said Tom Park, Hilton Hotels.

The resort sits adjacent to Walt Disney World property and Hilton hopes to takes advantage of the more than one million tourists who visit Orlando every week.

If you are curious as to the cost of a room at the new Waldorf, guests can take advantage of the special, grand opening room rate starting at just $230.00 per night.

2 New Luxury Hotels Mean New Jobs For Orlando

Reported by Dave D’Marko

ORLANDO -- Two luxury hotels will open near Disney Thursday with a variety of dignitaries on hand.

The 10 a.m. ribbon cutting for the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek will be attended by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty, Florida governor Charlie Christ and golf course designer Rees Jones.

Over 482 acres, the two hotels will add 1,500 luxury rooms to the Orlando area.

"Today's a historical day for us. We've been planning this opening nearly nine years for Orlando. Our guests are going to enjoy some of the wonderful amenities that currently are offered in New York at the original Waldorf Astoria, plus some extras. The golf course will be opening today, as well. Rees Jones designed (it)," said Tom Parke, director of marketing for the Waldorf Astoria.

"We have a grill and spa that will be open to the public as well as to our guests. (There are also) be in-room amenities that are endless, including flat screen televisions, surround sound, bedding that nowhere in Orlando will you see but here, and 13 dining options throughout the resort," Parke said.

If you want to stay at the resort, there are some breaks in price for the opening.

"Many people have taken advantage of our introductory pricing. We have been quietly, and with care, pricing is so that many people can enjoy both the Hilton and the Waldorf-Astoria in our first days of opening," Parke said.

The choice of Oct. 1 for opening day was not random. On Oct. 1, 1931, the original Waldorf Astoria in New York City opened, and on Oct. 1, 1971, Disney World opened.

Both hotels are offering introductory rates for the grand opening starting at $199 a night. Golf packages are available for $329 a night at the Waldorf Astoria and $299 a night at the Hilton.

Hotels Good For Orlando

The two new hotels are great for tourists, but it has also been great for the Orlando area. First came all the jobs that came with the construction, and then 750 people were employed to run the hotels. Peter Kacher, managing director of the Waldorf Astoria said there are still some job opportunities.

I'm exhausted UGHHH but the opening was a pure triumph for central florida..tons of media and big shots everywhere..was truly a site to behold..and now to sleep and do it all over again.

You all must try this amazing piece of history
