The WALDORF ASTORIA ORLANDO and HILTON BONNET CREEK Information Thread

Super disappointed about a rate for HBC. We are planning a trip for June 7 -June 16. The bonus night rate for the past 2 months have been $169 & now jumped to $219. We have to wait anyways until after the holidays to book but I feel I just missed our chance to stay at the HBC. It was on the top of the list.:sad2:

If you join Hilton honors, you might get an email offering an e-upgrade for even less. I received this offer several times, once when we booked at the Hilton Bonnet Creek via lastminutetravel.com, after I called Hilton and had them add my Hilton Honors acct # to the reservation, and another time when we stayed at the Waldorf in New Orleans.

Got a grade upgrade, both times.

There are several choices on the e-upgrade, for Disney view rooms, and various levels of suites at both the Hilton and the Waldorf Bonnet Creek, starting at $5 for the Disney view upgrade.

Thanks for posting! :thumbsup2

Merry Christmas!

We were at the Hilton next door last week. The Hilton may block part if WA's view of Epcot, which has the only fireworks show worth going out of your way to watch at this distance from the parks.

At the Hilton, if you have the "Disney View" we enjoyed (facing west - the "back" of the hotel - on a high floor), you can clearly see Epcot's Illuminations fireworks, with their awesome Christmas tag. It's a sidelong view, so you basically have to rest the side of your head on the window while facing north. You're close enough that you can hear/feel the bursts of the more powerful shells, albeit with the delay of distance.

Looking in the same direction, you can see Wishes, but the Magic Kingdom is too far away to provide anything worth watching.

DHS is roughly the same distance as Epcot, but a direct frontal view. Unfortunately, the fireworks accompanying Fastasmic are no big deal, and I did not happen to look out the window when they were happening. You can see the Osborne Lights when they dance, though it's not much fun without the music.

I wrote this review for Tripadvisor and wanted to share it here.

From December 24-31, 2011, we enjoyed our second stay at HOBC. As much as I have enjoyed our stays at various Disney deluxe resorts, it's going to be really hard to justify paying more than twice as much for a Disney hotel when we know how great the Hilton is. We had stayed for three nights during Spring Break for less than $190/night.

This time, I booked a 2-queen room with HHonors points and selected e-upgrades for a high floor and a suite. When the e-upgrades came though ($135 per night), we were absolutely blown away by the size of the "parlor"; it is equal to two rooms. You can see an example floor plan at http://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/content/ORLHHHH/media/pdf/en_ORLHHHH_Hilton_Deluxe_Suite.pdf. 1,200+ square feet were more than our family of 4 knew what to do with. The leather couch was comfortable enough for one to sleep on as-is, though it is a queen-size foldout. In addition to all the extra furniture, it was nice to have that huge open space by the wet bar where we could leave all our luggage, still easily accessible but completely out of the way.

Service was nearly impeccable throughout our stay. Staff knew my name in just about every instance when they could reasonably be expected to find out. Little extra touches make me suspect that they were also aware of my Diamond status. The only miss was one time (out of seven) that I requested my car from the valet and it took nearly 30 minutes (with two additional asks) before I had it. The quick valet service every other time enables me to recommend wholeheartedly that you choose the $20/day (plus tips) valet over $13 self-parking. The housekeepers were unobtrusively efficient in both daily cleaning and nightly turndown. On Christmas day, Rosa fashioned a few towels into a lovely basket of flowers.

Regrettably our plans took us away from the hotel for most meals, except one lunch at the poolside restaurant Beech, a light dinner from room service, and most breakfasts at the Harvest Bistro. The breakfast buffet exceeds expectations in this family-oriented market where hotels can easily get away with less. In particular, the omelet station works much faster than I am used to seeing at either standalone restaurants or hotels like Embassy Suites. During busy holiday periods like Christmas week, get down to the Bistro before 8:30 to avoid waits of 45 minutes or more for a table.

Because I have free theme park parking with my WDW annual pass, I used the theme park bus service only once, to go to Animal Kingdom. The bus makes two pickups, one at the Hilton and one at the Waldor, then goes to Magic Kingdom, and finally to AK. A second bus line goes to Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Downtown Disney. Since DD is only about 5 miles away, I recommend a taxi instead of the 45-minute bus ride. The buses are luxury coaches with reclining seats.

Other reviewers have made clear the very high level of HOBC's facilities. I would just point out that the lazy river is unmatched by any Disney hotel pool, including Stormalong Bay. The holiday decorations, while perhaps not Disney-quality, were certainly superior by any other standard. Our seven nights at HOBC flew by and my family is looking forward to our next visit. Next time, we'll make more of an effort to try all the restaurants.

I was just reading about the Bar Du Chocolat at the Waldorf for February. Has anyone been? If so, what kind of clothing is appropriate?

Thanks!

Thank you, uncleLEEEEEo (had to write it like Seinfeld says it;)), for posting your very thorough and informative HBC review! It sounds like you might not be returning onsite for a while. Have you also tried the WAO? Glad you had a great visit and we look forward to more of your reviews.

ETA: I added a link on the first page to your review.

Thanks...I also haven't been able to find anything. I'm guessing that business casual would be okay, but wasn't sure.

And, thanks for the welcome. I've lurked on here for a while. My wife and I are Disney nerds and just repurchased annual passes, so I figured I should sign up!

Hello Everyone!!! Just found this thread and it is so informative :goodvibes DH and I have been pricing out our vacation for F&W festival and the prices are :scared1:. Originally I wanted to stay at BWI but the WAO looks amazing and I am seriously considering staying there. The grounds looks beautiful and its still close to the parks. We always rent a car so Im not concerned with transportation. But, since we love to spend time at Epcot and DHS, I wanted to make sure that we were still close if not staying at a "Disney" resort. WAO is definitely on the top of my list!

Drive time you are actually closer to those parks than if you stayed at some of the Disney resorts.

You can actually look up the resort area via Google Maps/Earth and see how close you really are if you wanted so see exact distances.

The Waldorf and the Hilton Bonnet Creek are about 5 minutes from either the Studios or Downtown Disney. It takes longer to get to Epcot, maybe 10-15 minutes. If you take the boat from the front of the Studios you can enter through the International Gateway at Epcot and be closer to Food and wine than if you parked in the Epcot parking lot and walked through Futureworld.

I also find it much easier to get through security at the gateway.

The boat does stop at the Epcot resorts so it is not really faster, just more relaxing.

I have stayed at the Waldorf twice and the Hilton once. I like both the Waldorf is worth the extra money, in my opinion. The second time I stayed at the Waldorf I actually booked at the HIlton and received an upgrade via the Hilton Honors program once I attached my member number to the reservation.

The lazy river at the Hilton I like better than Stormalong Bay.

You do need to rent a tube at the Hilton lazy river, or go buy one.

I usually buy a noodle at Target anyway when I pick up my groceries, although they were running low when I went last October.

10-15min? Really? i've actually found that EPCOT is the fastest park to drive to from that area, although i guess it really depends on which way you go. If you turn left out of the Bonnet Creek area to hit World Drive and come in the "front", then I could see 10-15 min. If however you either go straight thru the light, or turn right and then left under the bridge to get onto EPCOT Center Drive, you are back into the 5 minute range.

You are right, I have been going right out of Bonnet Creek instead of right or straight through the light.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm glad to have read your review. I'm considering HBC for our 2012 vacation. The rate is so much less expensive than the Disney deluxes and the pool looks so much better. Transportation is not a biggie - we drive from ATL - and usually drive to the parks. Thanks again for the review.

They also have a shuttle when you don't feel like driving;)

How inconvenient is the WA shuttle service relative to the Disney bus system?
