The WALDORF ASTORIA ORLANDO and HILTON BONNET CREEK Information Thread

It has taken me way too long to get to this, but I have some photos and a mini-review of Hilton Bonnet Creek. We only stayed 1 night on 5/26. We arrived late at night to Orlando and stayed here because I had a free night and the pool looked cool! I am a Hilton Honors Gold member (ha ha) and we did receive breakfast voucher coupons since there is no executive lounge and we received a high room with a view (they had no suites to upgrade us to so they gave us the best room they could). I have no pictures of the room :scared1: But it was a hotel room. The room had 2 queen beds and a nice sized bathroom. We only stayed one night so it was just fine. The decor, rooms, hallway, and lobby are all very nicely decorated and very clean. And they have Peter Roth toiletries so that was really cool!

Here is a view from our room looking out:

We had breakfast at Muse with our coupons. This is the quick service coffee bar. The prices were comparable to Disney prices if you are to pay out of pocket. I will say that the cinnamon roll was the BEST! It was made with European butter and had this flaky consistency that was in between a butter croissant and a cinnamon roll dough and it was drowning in yummy butter. It was soooo good and sooo bad for us  The donut was massive and we were able to split those two items between the four of us as well as coffee, juice, and fruit and it held us till an early lunch.

We spent the morning at the pool. It was very nice. We enjoyed the lazy river quite a bit! It has a good current in it though so make sure your children are good swimmers. I was disappointed that the inner tubes were only for rent. We did not do this since we were only at the pool for an hour. The slide did not open until 10 and we got right on it but it is very bumpy where the tube pieces meet. I only went on it twice and then couldn't take it anymore. The pool was clean and nice looking and we enjoyed the pool and the lazy river. The slide though was not good because of the bumpiness on your bottom side. Here are some pictures:

All in all, we had a nice visit. While I recommend the resort and I did enjoy it, we were only there one night. I can't say anything about the transportation or an extended stay. We did end up staying at Universal for one night and at Wilderness Lodge for 6 nights and I do prefer staying 'onsite' for Disney vacations but this was definitely a great hotel.

OMG that donut looks like a cake!!:rotfl:

Thanks for sharing your pics they look great! We are staying at the Hilton for 8 nights in September! Hoping for an upgrade to a suite to have more room. Otherwise, we will have to make do! Thanks again for sharing your experience!!:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for posting your great photos and review! I'm going to add a link on the first page:goodvibes. Thanks also for pointing out the "chair message," I didn't notice it from above. You have a good eye:thumbsup2

That is a HUGE donut. It reminds me of one from those giant donut molds they sell on TV. What fun!

And I think I will be either at the Hilton or the Waldorf In October for the central Florida Race for the Cure.

Thanks for all the good info.

I have stayed at both hotels, and really love both.

It is such a convenient area at Bonnet Creek.

I love lazy rivers, and the Hilton one is very good.

The beds and bedding at the Waldorf are to die for.

Decisions, decisions.

The Waldorf also has a wonderful free coffee and tea service in the Peacock lounge during the am. They have Tea forte tea, which I am now a fan of (many orders under my belt).

Don't miss this if you stay at the Waldorf.

The same tea is offered at the Waldorf in the New Orleans at what used to be the Roosevelt Hotel. However, it is not free, you pay $$ for same tea.

We will be staying at the WAO over the Labor day weekend (9/1/11-9/5/11). After some research, we decided on the Waldorf package. Here is a list of the available packages and the prices for a standard King:

Advance Purchase
$161.00
Best of Waldorf Astoria
$189.00
Disney Ticket Offer
$209.00
Bed and Breakfast
$209.00
Resort Credit
$249.00
Exquisite Spa
$309.00
Unlimited Golf
$229.00
Do Not Disturb
$289.00
Florida Resident
$170.00
Senior
$170.00

Here is a link to the various packages: http://www.waldorfastoriaorlando.com/packages

The Best of Astoria package is a better value when compared to the Advance Purchase price since it comes with a $50 daily resort credit. This represents a base price of $139 for the standard King. The Resort Credit package comes with a $100 a day credit, so the base price for the same room is $149.

The other packages that seem like good values are the Do Not Disturb and the Exquisite Spa. The DND package comes with champagne and chocolates on arrival, breakfast in bed, and a pool cabana. If you consider that the daily cabana rate is $200, and that the breakfast and champagne would be about $75, you could see the value here. The only problem is that you are obligated to a specific activities beforehand, and we don't like to do that.

I was going to book the DND package on the day of our arrival, and book the BOWA package for the remaining days. I was told by a reservations agent that the cabana would have to be used on the date of the DND reservation, and that it would be for an after 4 o'clock rental. The rental price for an after 4 o'clock rental is $100. The agent had to put me on hold to get an answer, so I'm not fully sure that this is the correct info.

The Exquisite Spa package comes with a facial and a massage. These treatments cost $150 each, so it's easy to see the value here. But once again, my wife and I hate to commit to anything when we go on our vacations.

Living in South Florida, we go to Orlando often. The last several times we have stayed at the Ritz, and we really like it. We mainly go to Orlando looking for a romantic, relaxing time, and we haven't been to the Disney parks in years.

We still have a few days left on a 7 day pass that we bought on our first vacation together 25 years ago. We have agreed to never use the last day of the pass and keep it forever as a symbol of our love, so no matter what happens we will always have another vacation to dream of.

Enough of the corniness, and back to the reservation: When booking through the hotel, at the end of the checkout process, you can choose to preselect several different upgrade options. These are not guaranteed upgrades, but if you request them, you are committed to pay for them if they are available when you arrive. They treat it like a separate reservation. You won't know if you get an upgrade until you check in. Here are the upgrade request options I was given:

Golf View
$9.00
High Floor (8th or above)
$15.00
Disney View
$20.00
Deluxe Suite
$60.00
Deluxe Suite Disney View
$80.00
Luxury Suite
$110.00
Waldorf Suite
$145.00

Link to room descriptions: http://www.waldorfastoriaorlando.com/resort/rooms/

I selected the Deluxe Suite, the Luxury Suite, and the Waldorf Suite options. I'm net really expecting to get anything because of the holiday weekend, but to reserve a deluxe suite would be $160 more per night, so the upgrade is a good value for us. The luxury suite is $461 more and the Waldorf suite is $2,011 more (good luck with that one).

Like I said, we play everything by ear, but it doesn't mean I don't research the available amenities beforehand. I am bringing my golf clubs. Maybe one afternoon we will go out on the course. My wife would be just a passenger, but she enjoys to ride along with me.

Golf rates are around $65 in September, which includes use of the practice facility. The place looks superb, so I'm sure this would be an enjoyable afternoon well spent. If not going out on the course, you can use the practice area for $25. If you have to rent clubs, it is $75.

The WAO website does not list the prices on their restauran menus, which can be a little scary, but I was able to find the menu prices for their two main restaurants, the Bull and Bear, and Oscars. I was relieved to see that their prices are reasonable. We can not wait to try the Bull and Bear.

Here is the link to the Bull and Bear menu: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bull-and-Bear-Menu.jpg

From the Hilton site listing all available dining options between the HBC and the WAO: http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/ORLHHHH-Hilton-Orlando-Bonnet-Creek-Florida/dining.do

Another thing we like to do is the “arrive a day early thing”. We make the 2 ½ – 3 hour drive up to Orlando, stay at a cheap hotel, and get over to our nice hotel the first thing the next morning. We usually get a room right away, but are prepared to wait if we have to.

This year we are staying at the Hilton Orlando the day before. The rate is $100. This hotel is highly rated on Tripadvisor so we are anxious to check it out.

There is no resort fee at the WAO, which always makes you feel better. Doesn't everybody hate those? It's like the service fee that Ticketmaster charges. So the $35 ticket is $55 dollars. I'm not stupid. That's a $55 ticket!

I am fine with the $20 mandatory valet parking. I am also fine that Internet access and wi-fi is not free as I will be leaving my laptop at home. We might be able to survive in the wilderness with only a blackberry for 4 or 5 days.

Anyways, I hope to be able to write some sort of review after our stay. We will see if our high expectations are in order.

WOW! You really have done your research. The research makes all the planning so much more fun, I think.

This is a lot of great information so I'm going to post a link to all of it on the first page - THANKS! Oh, and have a great trip to the WA and we can't wait for your TR!

Thanks Enjoying Life for all the great information! I'll be sure to check out the tea!

We have also stayed at both The Waldorf & BCHilton and loved both.

We are returning for a 5 night stay at the Waldorf next week with no real plans to go to the parks. I wasn't really sure about dining at the Bull & Bear but the link you provided convinced me. Our 16 year old loves Ceasar Salad and even though I've been to restaurants that make it table side, I'm sure she'll be very impressed!

I'll post a review when we return.

Yzma and Kronk, and Enjoying Life, I hope you both enjoy your trips!

I think I enjoy the Waldorf even more when we don't go to the parks...love to relax and be pampered :cloud9:

Can't wait for your trip reports!

Can anyone who has stayed at the Waldorf tell me about travel times, via car, to the parks. We have young children and are worried about the back and forth (parks in morning, afternoon break, back in evening). The hotel looks wonderful but that's a concern.

Also, in case of a crankiness outbreak that might split the group any experience with the shuttle service? Is it good, bad, indifferent?

Thanks!!

I stayed at the WA last January and will be at the Hilton next week. It will be interesting to compare the two as the WA was crazy expensive. The taxi to WL was about $30!!

We were just there and travelling to the parks by car is really easy. MK & Epcot are just a short drive turning left, then ramp right. I'd say MK - no more than 10 minutes, Epcot 7 or 8 minutes. DHS is really close - maybe 5 minutes, and AK about 12 minutes or so.

Just remember when travelling to the parks by car, it takes a little longer because you have to park and take a tram to the gates. At MK - it's tram then boat/monorail.

We paid the extra to Valet park the car at the Waldorf and just called down 5-10 minutes prior to needing the car and it was always there when we arrived downstairs. I'm sorry but I don't remember the cost - either $15 or $20 per day, plus tip.

Remember unless you have a AP, you'll also have to pay for parking at the parks, so add that cost into it.

Waldorf has good bus service to/from the parks so that might be an option for you as well. We didn't take the bus service but we did see a lot of "Following me to the Waldorf" buses, so I'm sure they were good and frequent.

We always drive to the parks, even when we are on property because we like the flexibility of not having to rely on buses and the potential of crowded buses at the end of the day.

We split up once, and DH took the car back, and DD & I took the Disney bus to the The Boardwalk Inn and a taxi from there to the Waldorf was about $12.

Also, we had a fantastic stay at the Waldorf. It's definately become one of my favorite hotels. The rooms are great, the staff is wonderful and the facilities at the hotel are fantastic!

Thanks so much. We do have an AP so parking at parks isn't a problem. I just worry we'll regret losing the on-site walking/boat options we would have at a Disney resort ... But the Waldorf is SO tempting, hotel-wise.

If anyone has used the buses, let me know.

My husband and I did use the busses several times when we stayed at the Waldorf for 4 nights in November 2009 not long after the hotel opened.

We had a rental car since we also stayed for the first time in an AKV unit.

The busses we were on were extremely comfortable compared to the Disney busses, more akin to the busses to you take from the airport to the Disney resorts.

Very few people were using the busses, so we enjoyed chatting with the bus drivers.

We decided to go back to driving our own car after a few days. It was great transportation when the park you were going to was the first one the bus went to. It seemed too long a circuit when you were going to the second park destination.

The Disney busses, especially the ones for the Epcot area hotels where we usually stay do stop at multiple Disney resorts. However, stopping at multiple parks seems to take longer to me.

I would have no problem taking the Waldorf/Hilton bonnet Creek busses if we did not have a car. But we also like to eat at restaurants located at Disney resorts, for both lunch and dinner and a car really comes in handy for us.

What I really like about both the Waldorf and the Hilton Bonnet Creek is having the valet bring the car around. It makes the vacation just seem more luxurious and is worth the parking fee and tips for me.

I seem to be able to get a good deal each trip on the car rental a few weeks before the trip.

We also use AP's so parking at the parks is free.

I have also stayed at the Hilton Bonnet Creek and like it very much as well, but truly love the Waldorf.

The location of the bonnet creek resorts compared to Hollywood studios and downtown disney is perfect, literally right in the middle of both. We also go to the boardwalk and it is about the same distance from that area, maybe 5 minutes to all three locations.

When we travel with our kids, staying onsite is preferable becuase it is easier for them to go back and forth to parks, water parks, etc. on their own time schedule (sleeping very late) while my DH and I drive to the parks However, our kids are older now, 2 in college and the youngest in high school. With a friend or each other, it is no problem for them to take the Waldorf/Bonnet creek bus.

Hope you have a great vacation.

Be sure and take advantage of the coffee/tea service in the am. They offer some great tea, Tea Forte, my favorite. And it is free! Same tea that the Waldorf in New Orleans (the renovated Fairmont) charges $8 per serving in the coffee shop there!

I agree with Snappy.

We have stayed at the Waldorf (2009) and Hilton (last March) and this time I noticed many more busses coming to the Waldorf than before. One time the driver announced that he was going to Epcot and the DHS bus was right behind him. So maybe they have stepped up the service since 2009.

As far as missing the "Disney" - get a Disney view. One of the best off property. Illumination is just a mile or so away and from our view we could see Wishes as well. You have views of all 4 parks.

Stacey "Top 10 Must Do's" is on the TV, and they just opened an "Official" Disney Store at the Hilton a couple of weeks ago.

I'm sure you'll love the Waldorf!
