I think we booked this year's trip around February. It usually drags by but for some reason this year flew (which is good)! We check into the Fort on July 21st but we are going to leave MA on the 17th. I've done the trip in 3 days and even 2 on the way back before but I was able to score some extra vacation time this year and will put it to good use by taking my time and relaxing.

Plan is to drive no more than 6hrs a day and stop four times on the trip down. I should be well rested when we get there and ready for our usual first night reservation at Ohana (yum!).

We are staying for 14 days at the Fort with 6 park passes. Plenty of time to enjoy the Fort this time for sure. We are renting a cart from Tee Time instead of paying an arm and a leg for a Disney cart like last year. Not really looking forward to towing with someone else's truck so I am hoping someone is getting rid of their cart on the same day, LOL.

Since we had the extra time to spend, we also decided to stay in VA beach for two nights and Assateague island for two nights on the way back. I am really looking forward to both as I used to live in VA beach when I was in the military and I'm wondering how much it has changed. I am hoping these little mini trips will take the sting out of leaving the Fort.

Going through all the usual now with a week left... RV maintenance, packing lists, GPS routes, test hanging the huge rope light Mickey we made etc.

The excitement is growing!!!

Mali (not allowed to use the other word at WDW right now)

Sounds like a great trip plan. I always have good intentions about extending the 17 hour drive, but work schedules and an overwhelming desire to get to the Fort usually take precedence. I did sort of drive down in 3 days last trip. 4 hours after work on Thursday, 11 hours on Friday and the last 2 hours to the Fort on Saturday morning.

Enjoy the stay and post as you can to tell us what you're up to.

T- 8 days. It's getting real now. Finished all the maintenance, oil/filter on engine, oil and air filter in generator, batteries watered up, extra fluids packed and all my tools double checked etc. Just need to wash her the day before and final check on tire pressures now.

Also had to go do some shopping with DW and picked up some sweet Hawaiian shirts for Ohana. Man I love that place! Pretty much just need to pack some groceries for the trip down now and we are ready to roll. Won't need much food since I love stopping at Golden Corral for breakfast and we'll hit the Walmart in Titusville before checking in to stock up for about half the time in the Fort. Spoke to the girl from Tee Time, everything is all set up, just waiting to hear from her again a day or two before to finalize. My new Sunpass transponder came in too and went right on the windshield before I can lose it :D

A guy at work told me there is a talking Mickey meet/greet near the main gates of MK. Anyone know anything about this? First I've heard of a character talking.

Jeff over on PassPorter there was mention of Mickey talking a while back. Seem to recall he was at Meet and Greet in theater on Main Street but don't hold me to that. when will you be at AI we plan on being at Tall Pines Harbor CG Aug 11 x 16 in nearby Temperanceville

If there is a talking Mickey, I have to see it! We will be on AI 8-9 I think.

Talking Mickey is just to the right at town square theater. The Tink meet is there as well. I was worried what my daughter would think-and since he is dressed as a magician we told her there was a magic spell that let him talk and she calls him Magic Mickey now! He commented on her princess dress and made our day! I even heard him speaking another language to a non english speaking guest and their family in front of us! They were so excited! Have fun!

When we were there about 2 years ago, we did see the talking Mickey. Not sure if it's a Voice manipulator or if it was "Stock" phrases, but I thought it was cool. His "Conversation" with us seemed like "generic" type responses which is why I think it could be "stock" phrases. It is interesting that he will also speak other languages. How cool!
