The Volleyball Thread

I played volleyball from 5th to 8th grade. I was setter and only played the front row. I was the only one on the team that didn't have a jump serve. Unfortunately my school doesn't have a guys team so I quit playing my freshman year.:headache:
 
my friends from the volleyball team and I are trying to find a place to play (volleyball) every friday. If we can't find a gym somewhere, we're just going to play on a sand court at the park.
 
Play beach it will make you much better much faster than if you played on the court.

Yea we've played sand before but it's hard to find a good court and have a good day. One court we've been to had glass in the sand. Plus basically every day in Chicago can be windy. It's hard to play when it's windy.
 
AHHH! We won our quad! I'm so happy! Our last game of our 3rd match was exhausting! Me and the "good" setter were subbed in because the OH and S were doing horrible. We won 25-23. It was a battle back and forth. So we are 2-0! YAY!

Oh yeah forgot you live there. Here in florida its never difficult finding a half way decent court.
 
There's five seniors on the varsity team. I think the rest are juniors. I love my team. I'd love to be on JV next year too. =] But varsity would be better! :rolleyes1 Hehe.

Before every practice or game, we would play these games we made up. We called them Vasketball, and Wall Ball. It was a better workout than the practice or game.

Wow...I feel like I've been gone forever. I've had 3 weeks of preseason and my team, per usual, has done awful. We've lost all our games, but I guess I'm just used to that now. I think that it's because we don't get a lot of time to hone our specialties (like setting, or hitting) because we have to work a lot with the new players on very general stuff. There's a girl on varsity, a freshman (mind you, we only have JV and Varsity teams), and the sole reason that she's playing is so she can be in the front row to block. The downside? She doesn't know rotation, she doesn't move to where she should be, she can't serve or play back row, so we have to use our libero for just her, and she doesn't even get into the game. She just kinda stands there and doesn't do anything- ever. I guess it just annoys me that she gets more playing time than me when I've spent a lot of time learning stuff like rotation and proper approach and I've worked hard to compesate for my short height by lifting to strengthen my legs so I can jump and hit effectively. UGH!

I just got a scholarship offer on saturday to play basketball and baseball, but i'd like to play volleyball somewhere.

You shouldnt be lifting if you want to make your legs stronger. Just wear weighted vests and do drills that work on your feet and you can increase your jumping alot.

I just keep jumping. I also did jump squats just with just the bar. That helped me a lot because I am 5'8" and can touch rim on a basketball hoop.
