Got a letter delivered to our mailbox today. It was posted on 12/22 from Maryland. The only thing correct on the address was my street number and the word Circle. The Zip Code was not mine. Not my state, not my city, not my street, not my name. I wonder why I got it.

It was addressed to Maryland, about six or seven states away from me.

I think USPS is phenominal. I will always use USPS to ship from now on.

We live in Colorado, so got hit hard with the Blizzard last week. When roads were finally passable, USPS worked Friday, Saturday, Sunday and even did some deliveries on Christmas to make sure everybody got their gifts.

UPS - not a chance. I still have presents still sitting on trucks in Denver that they haven't even unloaded yet. I offered on Saturday (when tracking said they were in Denver) to come down and pick them up. But UPS told me they were only unloading 2nd day air packages (uhhh...mine were 2nd day) and that they would only deliver until 5:00pm Saturday and not at all on Sunday (Christmas Eve.) They wouldn't even staff the pickup centers for people desperate to get their Christmas gifts to come pick their stuff up.

I still have 2 packages with UPS that have not even been updated since 12/22. A call to UPS today was unproductive - told me to call the shippers and have traces put on them. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE customer service!!!

Today, Tuesday, my stuff still isn't delivered.

But everything I ordered on the 17th, 2nd day air, with USPS made it here before Christmas. Bless all the postal delivery people who gave up their Christmas Eve's to make sure the kids (and adults) had their packages under the tree.

I love the USPS. I sell on eBay, and I love that they pick up right at my door, their rates are low, and the stuff gets there on time. I stopped even offering UPS as a shipping option.

I feel like a commercial for the USPS! :rotfl:

I feel like I wrote this. My presents/packages, which shipped UPS 3 day on 12/19, also have not been scanned since 12/22. The website says it's been "rescheduled" for delivery tomorrow. The rep on the phone tried to convince me that the 27th IS 3 day delivery. This is the second year in a row that UPS has not delivered our presents on time. Last year they locked them in a shipping container and the manager with the key left until after the holidays. :rolleyes1

UPS's motto is apparently, "If it absolutely has to be there, make sure to send it with another shipper."

Then I called the USPS today to ask when they would deliver the mail I placed a delivery hold on earlier in the week. An hour later they were knocking at my door with a package of mail and an apology. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

i carry mail and ill tell you why
the letters are sorted by machine
although they are 95% accurate the machine can read wrong and send it to another delivery point
the carrier does not see this mail until the point of delivery
if he fails to see that it is different then it gets delivered
heres the kicker
if you put it back out with wrong address and dont obliterate the bar codes you could get it back again. even if you dont get it back it can end up in a situation called loop mail and that could go on for several days

I got a Christmas card back that I had mailed out. I had accidentally transposed 2 of the numbers in the street address. They wouldn't deliver it, but wrote the correct number on the front and sent it back to me.
Thanks a lot USPS.

I had a problem with a postal employee about 3 weeks ago when I mailed a letter to the little girl I sponsor in Dominica. Christian Children's Fund gives me mailing labels so I can write to her, and the time before the postal employee "had a problem" with having West Indies on the label. That time he just complained about it. But this last time he was visibally angry about it, so much so that he called Christian Children's Fund "idiots" and actually scratched off "West Indies" on the label.

I e-mailed Christian Children's Fund about it and they said it would be helpful to have West Indies on the label, but she felt my letter would still be forwarded to my little girl.

Christian Children's Fund is a NATIONAL organization. I think they know their own address. I'm going to use a different post office from now on when I send letters to her.

Well I'm glad that someone's having a good experience with them because I'm not!!! They've lost 3 of my packages this year, one I had to call the company and yell very very loudly to get them to resend. I won't ever ship a package priority mail again when it takes a week and a half to get there as it is. Track and Confirm is worthless, none of them were ever updated even though I paid extra money for it to be updated. FedEx or UPS for me with packages from now on.

Add me to the growing list of Coloradoans unhappy with UPS after the storm. Our Christmas gifts from my parents arrived in Commerce City on Thursday, but did not leave there until Tuesday. On Tuesday, they made it to Englewood, but did not get delivered. Today, finally, the website is showing "out for delivery."

When my mother called for an explanation as to why the website indicated that the packages had been sitting in Commerce City for five days, she was told that she didn't comprehend the magnitude of the storm. When she asked why, if the packages were in Englewood, they didn't go out for delivery, she was told that UPS workers weren't contracted to do a second run. What it comes down to is that UPS workers weren't contracted to work any overtime and no one felt compelled to make up the time lost on Wednesday and Thursday.

USPS, on the other hand, had nearly 600 employees volunteer to work on Sunday and on Christmas. Sure, they got paid, but they weren't required to come in and did so anyway.

Luckily, I did that. We'll see if I get it back again.

It is now 12/27. Package, according to the dimwit who answered the phone at UPS - still has not been unloaded from a truck, so could not possibly be scanned yet. The roads were passable on Friday. So, if we take into account 2 day air from Friday, they are still behind now on Wednesday. And absolutely NO help from customer service. They can't tell me when it will be unloaded, nor when it just might be delivered. And I can't come get it because it hasn't been scanned, so, although they know it is in the Commerce City warehouse, they don't know where it is. I will just have to be patient until they go through all the packages.

How is it that USPS, FedEx and DHL can all be caught up on their blizzard deliveries, yet UPS told me just 10 minutes ago that they STILL have over 200 trailers to unload at the Commerce City facility. :confused3

And the most frustrating thing is that we have another blizzard predicted for tomorrow and Friday.

Give me USPS anyday!!

Next year for EBAY and other holiday sales, I will no longer offer USPS Priority mail after about December 15th. They did not do well for me this year.

The confirmation codes never update until after the package is delivered. It sits there on that "the sender notified us to expect a package but this doesn't mean we actually received it" page for days. The buyers think I'm lying when I say I shipped their stuff. I had one buyer refuse delivery for a package yesterday because of late delivery and now it is coming back to me and I will have to refund.

I'm considering going to DHL Ground. I shipped two packages with them this year for rates that were only about 5 cents higher than Priority Mail. I had a good experience with both of them.

Well, something today has me a little puzzled. I just picked up today's mail and an eBay auction I sold earlier this month was returned to me marked "insufficient address."

What was insufficient about it? It seems that when I printed the postage through Paypal a dash (one of these - ) and a number was left off of the person's apartment number. That's it. Instead of reading, for example, "Apt 1 - 2", it read "Apt 1". Everything else -- name, rest of the street address, city, zip, even the DC bar code -- was fine.

Like the buyer doesn't receive other mail and some myrmidon (I love that word) couldn't realize that this item might be going to that person?? :confused3 Heck, I received something the other week that had my address very much obscured, but it still arrived.

I had a Christmas card returned to me - no such address - for the second year in a row... I sent it in a separate envelope to my cousin - let them take it to the PO and ask why they return it! The address is right - the only thing I can think of is that the font can't be read properly at that post office.

I have great success with USPS here. YMMV :)

That looks like what I have been seeing. My wife just called, though, and said the packages have arrived.

Don't you just love their computer reading systems (not)! As the receptionist at my company, I get to sort the mail that comes in each day. We often get mail that isn't even for NY as well as mail for another business down the block because the stupid computer reader can't read past the first two digits. Our building number is two digits while the other company is three digits. I even found one in yesterday's mail.

When the USPS sent out surveys last year, I gave them a poor rating on that.

Which one of you wrote a letter to the editors of the Rocky Mountain News?

UPS dropped the ball (scroll down to the eighth letter).

I didn't, but I sure could have. I finally received my packages late yesterday - 8 days after they arrived in Denver via UPS 2nd day air :lmao:
