The Ups and Downs of Labor Day weekend 2010

The lady that had Kira's phone sounds kinda wacky... and I'm dying to know where her phone was, since she had Kira's :confused3

Otherwise, it sounds like the latest drama was rather short lived and the day was a pretty good one!

My initial reaction to the woman was that she was somehow thinking that she had scored a new phone... but after all was said and done, I think she just was confused. After all, she did try and get a hold of everyone in Kira's emergency list. I just would think that giving it to the nearest cm would have been a more logical course of action.

Drama that day was intense surrounding the phone, but you are right, pretty short lived and the rest of the day was indeed pretty good!

Great updates? I wonder where that woman's phone was if she had Kira's? And I'm glad Kira showed some more patience the rest of the trip.

I don't like COP and I avoid at all costs (unless I need a nap). That song is so annoying.:eek::eek:

The Tommorowland People Mover is a favorite--it's just so relaxing.

I am not sure about where or if she had her own phone. I just know when I called her (not knowing at the time she had already called me from that phone) she was confused at who would be calling. Oh well...

:rotfl: on the song.... It was quite catchy!!! and so one to avoid if you don't want to have it stuck in your head!

So I left off when it was just about time for our dinner ADR. Where did we go?

Kona!!!

One word....

AMAZING!!!

I think this was our favorite meal, but let me backup. Despite the fact we had stayed in MK rather than leave, we were running late. I think I was the only one a bit nervous about this. I tried to not show it since I really was truly glad that mom and Kira both were pretty calm about it. We got in line for the monorail and wouldn't you know it...there was some sort of hold up. When a train finally showed up, we all had to pack in. (what was the deal with my luck in being packed in like a sardine when using the transportation???:confused3) Mom sat next to an elderly woman who was traveling with her dd, gd and ggd. They were able to chat a bit while the monorail slowly made its way to the Polynesian.

Finally, we arrived. We were of course late, yet only I seemed troubled. (which was good) At this point in the day, the humidity was really high. It was like a sauna outside. The windows of the hotel were fogged up and it was like being hit by a brick (a very cold brick) when we walked into the air conditioned building. It was not at all long before we were seated for our meal.

After this amazing, soft bread served with an equally amazing butter (was it macadamia nut butter?)
IMG_1348.jpg
What did we each have?

I chose the price fix meal. I wanted to have an appetizer and the entree and dessert I wanted were available so it was a good choice.
Coconut Curry Soup. (to die for)
IMG_1346.jpg

Coconut Almond Chicken (a little sweet, but still AMAZING..and the salad was oh so yummy)
IMG_1352.jpg

Coconut KiKi Tart (with lychee fruit..holy cow I think I could eat those again and again)
IMG_1360.jpg

Kira wanted the tuna oscar so she did not get an appetizer. She was very intrigued by the fried green tomatoes and having now had them decided she does in fact like them.
IMG_1350.jpg
She chose the white chocolate cheesecake for dessert.
IMG_1356.jpg

Mom had the sea scallops and shirmp. Mom loves scallops and these were large and squishy. (I think they are gross..bluuuuk) She LOVED her meal.
IMG_1353.jpg
Although she had the coconut tart for dessert, the server brought a special treat for her birthday. (yes, the birthday button was still being worn. :rolleyes1)
IMG_1354.jpg

It was too bad that she had eaten so much already because she was too full to eat the cupcake. The server was nice enough to box it for her.

Zoe was just her easy going self and had soup and a hot dog. Course, you can see she had a bit of the bread and butter too. ;)
IMG_1349.jpg

During the meal, the first rain of the trip hit. It came down over the glass ceiling in such a way it was hard to believe it was rain because it was such a heavy down pour. By the time we were done with dinner, it was barely raining. It was however even muggier outside.

We decided to shop a bit in the gift shop before heading back to MK. Mom had noticed before that some of the rings were on sale and so she spent a ton of time looking through them. (by a ton, I mean...I think she sat there for an hour or more ) Her "treasure hunt" paid off though as she was able to find a very nice, mickey head, sterling silver ring for almost nothing. I bought a little ring for Kira too.

It was now time to head back to MK. First, I had to take a couple of pictures. I had hoped it might inspire my dh to want to go back to WDW. :rolleyes1

As we boarded the monorail, we realized that mom left that nicely boxed cupcake back at the gift shop.:sad2:

9/6 our last night in MK

I have to come back and catch up from home tonight when I can see your pictures, but since you and I have so much in common re: our bus issues, I wanted to share this with you. It looks like the bus issues are getting to everyone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmovTsW6gHY

:sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad:

This is definitely not the happiest place on earth. I totally understand the frustration...but the violence? And then all those angry hateful posts on youtube? I feel bad for everyone there that night. I don't know that I would have wanted to be on that bus...or the next. Disney really should get a clue from this and get some more buses going.

And I thought I had drama on my trip :sad2:

Um..wow. That's horrible. I can't even imagine. And the posts after might have been just as bad, if not worse. That's part of what makes Disney so special for me, is that its a chance to get away from all of that kind of ugly-ness.

I wonder what resort the bus was going to?

Anyway.... glad you all enjoyed Kona so much. The Poly looks beautiful We might have to stay there some day. I love COP and it was one of the things we missed on our last trip by not ever going to MK during the day. And Zoe's reaction to Space Mountain? Too cute.

Oooh...your mom's meal at Kona looks wonderful. Yours looks good...but I hate coconut so wouldn't eat it. But I love scallops and the ones on your mom's plate are huge.

I agree with you...Disney is special for me for that very reason. It almost seems like everyone goes out of their way to be nice to each other. Sure, here and there someone might get testy...but all in all it is so nice. This display just totally scares me. I know that it was hot...and the buses were horrid when we were there so maybe it just brought out the worst in those people. Course...that doesn't explain the people making the comments. I am not condoning the violence on the bus...but I can almost see how that could happen. Sitting at my computer... I just can't even begin to understand where all of that ugliness is coming from.

:rotfl: You wouldn't have liked any of my meal then. It was coconut all the way! Coconut soup...chicken and cream tart.

The scallops were indeed huge. I am sorry to say...not my thing though...they are too squishy. :upsidedow

This is the first time I have got the photo pass. I was determined to get one shot of us at each of the parks. Toward the end of the trip I realized I might want more than a few shots and so I started taking better advantage of the photopass photographers. Works out well, since most of the pictures on the pp are from the point in the TR that we are now to. I am going to add a few that we missed though... and let me just say...I think for these being done by "professionals" many could have been a bit better

9/2 DHS - All of us at night

9/3 Epcot - Zoe and Daisy in the morning

And just to show a moment where I don't look so happy...even though I was happy almost the entire time...
Photo0018.jpg
Mom was having one of her moments and the poor photographer snapped like a dozen of this pose...and mom was the one who couldn't sit still. So here you see me with a look of "good grief, can this picture please be done now" and my mom looking like she was doing it maybe on purpose. :rotfl:

Can you believe that is ALL that was missed thus far? Next trip I am SO gonna get more pictures taken!!!

So now I'm thinking on my next trip I'm gonna HAVE to go to Kona. I am a huge fan of coconut so that menu is perfect for me. I'll be going to Kona for breakfast and Kona for dinner too! Everyone's meal looked so delicious and I would eat any of those entrees and desserts, especially your coconut creme tart thingy. YUM. Gosh darn, another restaurant to add to my never ending list.

The photopass pics came out so nice! It's also great to actually be able to see pictures of YOU and not just your mom, Kira and Zoe. Did I mention how young you look? I cannot believe you have a daughter as old as Kira! Hehehe ;)

I think the Photopass pictures turned out really nice. I love the one of Zoe with Daisy and the one of you guys with Mickey and Pluto.

I have the same problem. I keep reading other TR's and I find other restaurants I have to eat at the next time we go. I think I have ate at a few places a few too many times, so it won't be hard to give those up for new ones. It will be hard to choose from all the new ones I want to try!

I know, there are literally on a few pictures that were taken of me. The photo pass only adds a few more. You are too kind...I look young? Thank you!

Thanks. I wish they turned out a bit better...but with our squirrelly bunch, it is lucky we got the ones we did. :)

I really need to finish this report up. Don't get me wrong...I have enjoyed draggin out the fun of this trip..but it is time to move on to planning the next trip. :rolleyes1

So after dinner and shopping, the plan was to head back to MK. It was not EMH that night so we did not intend to stay too late. We did hope to make it to closing.

It had rained pretty hard so everything was pretty wet. The crowd level was not too bad either.

On our trip in February, we did not do Tomorrowland Speedway. Zoe really wanted to, but we didn't have the time. We made a promise to her at that point that on the next trip we would FOR SURE, do it. We do normally skip it because it is the one ride that even with ridemax, the wait time is ridiculous. Still, a promise is a promise so off we went. Zoe drove the car that she and Kira rode in and was thrilled!

Next we went back to Toontown. We had missed the houses the previous day and since we didn't want to entirely miss them, they were first on our list.

Zoe was almost perfect the entire trip. Here is her one moment where she was not on her best behavior. Having two brothers, Zoe knows how to hold her own. Unfortunately, there was a little boy who was a bit of a pill. Zoe likes to have her picture taken. Each time I would try to take her picture, he would run up and push the button on the microwave, thus blocking my line of sight and making it so I didn't get her picture. After this happened several times, she took a swing at him. At least he (and his mom) were obvlivious. He just continued to run around, barging in front of people, pushing his way through groups of people...all while mom sat looking ever so tired. This picture is before she lost her mind with him.
IMG_1371.jpg

After having a talk with her about how we do not hit people (:sad2:) we moved on. I always get a picture of one of the girls in this chair. This time, I got a picture of my mother.
IMG_1372.jpg

Finally, it was time to meet Mickey. Minnie just happened to be there. :woohoo:
Photo0023.jpg

Photo0029-1.jpg

The photopass photographer tried to get a candid pic of me. It isn't great...but one of the few of me.
Photo0024.jpg

And one of my poor tired mom.
Photo0026.jpg

I got some pictures of the Halloween decorations and then we headed back through Fantasyland.
IMG_1375.jpg

IMG_1376.jpg

We took a quite trip on the tea cups. I don't like to ride this with my children since they are all evil and spin it way too much for my liking. The girls had tried to talk me into it before but I avoided it. This time I had my mom thinking we should. I thought "well, if she can handle it...so can I" I should have known better. Good grief the girls spun it until both mom and I were on the verge of getting sick. Oh well, we got a good laugh out of it. :goodvibes

Next it was time to do the Astro Orbiter. After the Tea Cups, there was no way I was going on. I knew that the view would be nice though, so I convinced my mom that she and I should at least go up so that we could see.
IMG_1383.jpg

IMG_1396.jpg

The park was about to close so we made our way to main street. Kira took Zoe for one last ride on Space Mountain. This gave mom and I the opportunity to stroll through the shops. By the time we were done shopping and at the end of main street, Wishes started. We watched it and then made our way to the buses. This park is always the hardest to say goodbye to. As if that wasn't hard enough, we had to ride the bus back to the hotel. What kind of bus? Yes, a stupid bus. :rotfl: The line was horrid again. We waited through the line until we were at the front then stopped for Kira and Zoe to catch up to us. Amazed, they got there just in time for the next bus. We were first in line for that bus and....

....

....

WE GOT SEATS!!!!

Park closed at 10pm and we were back to the hotel, showered and in bed by midnight!!!

Eventful night... remember the tea cups?

So glad to hear that your Kona meal was yummy! We love that place.

Can't wait to see more PP pictures!

Can't wait to see more PP pictures!

There were not that many. I am including the good ones...but honestly, I am surprised by how many are out of focus...off center...include random people around us. There are a few really good ones though (I will be adding from 9/7 and 9/8) that are the reason I bought the cd. Funny that it wasn't until the last two days that we got my favorites.

I love Zoe's look with Mickey in the Disney Visa picture. And to echo what Sue-Lyn said, I thought your profile picture was Kira until I saw a picture of her. That would be how young you look. I hear it sometimes too that I look young, but you look great even mad!

Can't wait for your favorite photos!

Zoe was very excited to see Mickey and Minnie...even though it was pretty late at night when we did so.

As for looking young..thank you. I still do occasionally get carded...but not like when I was younger. When I had Kira, I was almost 21 and no one believed I was over 15. I am sure starting to show my age though...and I think it will all hit me at once.

I will try and post an update with some more pp pics today. :goodvibes

Love your MK night and the pictures of Zoe with Mickey and Minnie. We've not done Astro Orbiter since our boys were little (and they are 24 and 22 now). :scared1:

I can't always take the spinning round type rides and after the tea cups, I figured I better skip Astro Orbiter.. but it is so neat how they have it up high. In DL, the ride is not like that. I like to go up just to watch the kids ride it so that I can see the view of Space Mountain and the castle. I tried to get pictures of the castle, but none turned out. Not sure why SM did....

I think it was Su-Lynn (chunkymonkey) who showed me this site. She was able to get such cute jewelry. I have been watching for some ever since. Finally, some showed up there today. Just had to share this link...very cute...for kids...but :scared1: I know I could not buy any of it for Zoe...diamonds...really? Not unless I plan for it to be lost. As cute as all of this is...my search will continue. :)

Those are really cute. I bought some Disney Couture stuff (thanks to Su-Lynn for making me want it more) at karmaloop.com with a discount code for about 20% off.
