The Unofficial STROLLER Thread

Any input will be appreciated, or any advice from someone who has tried Disney with a 3 year old without a stroller.

I think I would have to say there is NO WAY I'd do WDW with a 3 yr old and no stroller.

Personally, I would probably look on Craigslist or resale shops for a cheapie that would work for one trip. I would say borrow one from a friend, but we all know how hard airlines can be on strollers and I'd feel horrible if I came home to return a messed up stroller. YKWIM?

Another bad part of rentals (besides the insane price now!) is that you have to turn them in and it can be one freaky deaky long walk back to your room at night! Pretty hard on a tired adult, not to mention a tired 3 year old!

I don't think your 6 yr old would look silly in a stroller at Disney. There is a lot of walking. He might not need it all the time, but it sure would be nice at the end of the day-who wants to carry him? Don't worry if someone gives you strange looks-they probably don't have kids!

I would definately get strollers for your sons. Maclaren's get lots of votes as they hold up to 55 lbs. The volo does not recline but both the Triumph and the Quest do.

Figure out how much you are willing to spend and start shopping. I just went with the cost of a rental for the time we are there. I can always sell the stroller when I get home if I want. The good thing about bringing your own stroller is they can sleep all the way to the bus if you are staying on property.

I am renting from www.orlandostrollerrentals.com in August and have some friends that are doing the same. These are very high end strollers as compared to a MAC or Peg. They are rated for 50 for a single and 100 for a double. They are simple to fold and will be easy to get on the buses. The video on the baby jogger website shows the ease of use. These strollers are awesome! http://babyjogger.com/cityminimain.htm

Two more weeks and our stroller will be waiting at the Beach Club with no Airline fee to boot!!

What was the cup holder that people liked? I'm taking a Maclaren and a P3, and need a few cup holders. I don't like where the P3 is located.

Well I finally did it...I broke down and ordered a 2008 Maclaren Twin Triumph yesterday! Having never owned a Mac I really hope I like it. I bought it now so I can get used to it before we go to WDW next year. Now, like the pp, I need to find cups holders for the kids. My MIL is going to make something for us to hang on the handles for our stuff (lightweight enough so the stroller does not tip over).

Thanks for all the info!!

I bought a new 07 model on ebay a week ago. I LOVE the Triumph. We went to the mall yesterday just to try it out.
It is a bit hard to get my purse in and out of the basket, but I am okay with that.

The problem is that when we did a little fact finding mission at BRU, the Volos (my first choice) were too short - her head could flop backwards over the seat back. Other strollers with over 50lb limits were simlar except the Wendy B model. She seemed to have a little more space. I can't bring myself to spend $99 + on something just for WDW. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Lynn

Probably too late, but for those with a similar problem I bought a Combi Urban over the Volo for that reason. It holds 55lbs. I measured the back and it's 20inches. My daughter is 40 inches; probably 1/2"-1/4" of her head is above the back. I had my 50" son in it and his head would definitely flop back
though.

The price for the Cherry color seems to fluctuate on Amazon, in the past week or so I've seen it go from $61-$76 and everything in between. The color is not nearly as bright as it looks on Amazon. Wal-mart has it (and the other two colors) for $67.88 with free shipping to your local store. :)

I have a couple of stroller ??s

1) Has anyone gotten a stroller even for a 6 year old? My son has some issues that my result in meltdowns and I am wondering if it would behoove us to rent a double stroller. He's a BIG 6

2) I ahve a 4 year old dd that I won't hesitate getting a stroller for

3) the two of them in one double is a recipe for disaster.

Any insight much appreciated!

Julie

If money is no problem, I would just rent a stroller. They are easy to get in and out of, they are easy to push and steer, and since you have older ones that probably don't need a stroller to and from the bus and/or resort you don't have to worry about lugging a stroller on a bus/putting it in your car.

As I said above, my son is 50". I had him sit in the stroller I bought for my daughter just to see if it might be a possibility. He was just way too big for it. He looked silly. We've rented a double for him up until now but with it being up to $31/day, I plan on only renting one when/if it's absolutely needed.

:)

For those with double jogging strollers, what do you do for a child tray to hold your children's drinks/snacks? I LOVE our new Baby Jogger, but I'm wondering where to keep drinks and snacks! Thanks!

We just returned from our trip...my jogger doesn't have a tray for drinks and snacks....AND, my husband lost that nifty little bar that goes across the front of it that something could possibly have attached to!!! My 5 y/o DS was in and out constantly, so he could get his own, and 13 m/o DS would nibble cheerios, dried fruit snacks, etc out of a snack cup and we would hand his drink cup to him when needed. It didn't really slow us down any. We always made sure to carry an extra cup of water to the line for him b/c he always wanted to drink and snack when we were in line!

does anyone have a pliko w/ the borsa media bag? I really want to see how the bag attaches to the stroller and I can't find any pictures.

I was really torn between the Graco IPO and the McClaren Volo. My 2.5 YO is 35 pounds - so I needed a stroller for a bigger kiddo. We used to have a sit and stand, and I really wanted a "simple" stroller. The main thing that I like about an IPO is that it reclines - but then I had to ask myself if my almost 3 YO would ACTUALLY nap in a stroller...at Disney...probably not.

The neat thing about the McClaren is that it has a mesh backing. That means it's not a thick pad that my little sweat box will find uncomfortable. It's also pretty simple, which means if we get ice cream all over it, we can just hose it off.

Anyhow, as a Floridian, I really decided that the McClaren was for me.

My wife and I decided to just buy a Maclaren stroller to use (for our 5 year-old girl) while in the parks rather than pay to rent one. We bought a 2008 model. It will stay in its box until we pack for our trip. It is "coffee" in color. It is our intention to sell it immediately upon returning home. However, if we can sell it to someone who is just beginning their stay, it will work out even better. That way we BOTH get the benefit of using a nice new stroller for less than the cost of renting a Disney one. We will be leaving POR the morning of Oct 12 to return home. Is anyone interested in making this deal?

I am still torn about what to do about a stroller. My kids will be 17 months, 3 and 4 (turning 5 the week we go). My son the oldest is not going to want to walk the whole time. We are going for 9 nights. Probably only 8 days in the parks, not sure about the first day, in September, so it will be hot. He is healthy, normally pretty active. I have been trying to have him walk with me once or twice a week. He can make it about 3 miles but he does ask me to carry him for a few minutes a couple of times during the walk (I think he just likes the feeling of being carried by mommy). I know this will be a huge battle. I really don't think it will work to make the 3 year old walk while he rides. She won't want to walk too long either. So what do I do? I don't have any good strollers, just old graco full sizes that have seen much better days and are very heavy and will be tough on the busses. A small cheap umbrella will not work. My son is 42 pounds, my 3 year old about 37. They are past the weight limits of those. Plus the girls will do better riding together than the older too. I see two choices. Two Macs or a double Joovy that has the sit and stand on it. I am leaning towards two mac's because I would like to have a new light weight single to use for my youngest. The joovy would have to be sold when we go home. Renting makes no sense, it doesn't help us with POR and it is just throwing the money away. At least I could sell one I buy. So go with the old double graco or buy a double mac and hope my son will walk it. Or break down and buy two macs, which seems crazy but I want the vacation to be fun! Help! I have been trying to sell junk around the house to come up with the money to justify two expensive strollers, but I am out of good junk (sold 200 so far). I don't know what to do!

Check out the strollerswap group on yahoo groups. You may find a double mac or something else used so you wont be paying much for a stroller you might not want when you get back.

I am looking into buying a lascal buggy board to use for my 4.5 y.o.- would that work for you?
I do not what to take 2 strollers - my girls wanted to walk everywhere when they were 2.5 & 15 months - we had to fight with them to ride in the stroller. I am taking my Baby Jogger City Elite - I bought a jump seat & canopy for it (praying it comes in time) for when DD#2 wants to ride -this way I can just take it off and store it underneath when she is walking, - IF the sseat does not come I do not know if I will take the double jogger - schwinn that I have or take the baby jogger anyway and they will just have to walk or take turns on the buggy board.

Anyone have experience with the Maclaren Twin Techno stroller? We're thinking about purchasing one for our trip to WDW in Sept for our 5 year old and 2 year old.

TIA!
