The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World

what can you find in the Unofficial Guide that you can't find on this site, or others like it?
It's not so much that it can't be found anywhere else, it's that it collects lots of (generally correct) information and (generally well-informed) opinions in one place. Granted, the "place" is not a short read, but unlike the DIS, you don't need to commit to reading it for several hours every day, looking for the handful of informative posts lost amongst the noise.

The author has a great sense of humor, and a realistic approach to touring Disney. It is enjoyable to read, and it is guaranteed to make your trip enjoyable, too.
Just to be a bit of a crank, I'd say the author as a very specific approach to touring Disney, and the book is great for people who agree with that approach. If your goal is to get on as many attractions as possible, this is the book for you.

But for the stop and smell the roses types, following the UG's plans would not make for an enjoyable trip. Personally, as useful as some of the information in the book is, I've got a problem with people who believe that a child wanting to see Mickey Mouse is an "obstacle" that needs to be overcome in the quest to get on as many attractions as possible.

ColoradoMom,
In the back of the book there are several touring plans. Some examples are "One Day Touring Plan for the Magic Kingdom for Adults," " One Day Touring Plan for Magic Kingdom with Parents With Young Children," and some Two Day Touring Plans, etc. Of course these exist for every park. My husband and I have always used them and they work really, really well. They tell you which attractions to ride in what order based on research of what rides are least busiest at what times. Like I said, I love the book. Do I agree with every word of it? No, but I find the toruing plans to be superb.

I also love the UG and my Passporter!! You can also get them on Overstock.com for a little less than Amazon. Just make sure you are getting the most current versions because they also have last year's versions.

Another thumbs up for the UG!! I am reading the 2006 version right now. I bought mine off Amazon used for about $9.00. It is a great book! :cool1:

I was reluctant at first to use the touring plans (who wants to be told what to do on vacation??) but they are FANTASTIC!!!! :thumbsup2 I was amazed at how much more we were able to do. They really do their homework, they use logarithms and scientific analysis to plot out optimum visits to each of the four parks. The information is priceless. Yes you can get the same information (save the touring plans) here and at allears, but with UG it's all organized and condensed into a neat package.

Besides, you cant always take a laptop with you whereever you go!!!!
