Fellow DIsers:

Are you concerned about unwanted creatures sharing your bed while you are on vacation? The purpose of this thread is to serve as a clearing house for DISers to refer to prior to their long-awaited trip to WDW and the Disney resort of their choice.

It's simple really, I am suggesting that DISers returning from their trips who've encountered bed bugs, signs of bed bugs (e.g. poo on mattresses), or potential evidence of bug activity (paper on inside of room windows - perhaps suggesting fumigation?), please post:

(a) the WDW resort in question
(b) the dates of their stay
(c) the building they were assigned, and
(d) the room they stayed in.

For example, a recent post from LemonTwist on 09/04/08 indicated bed bugs at POR: "My husband just about hit the ceiling out of a deep sleep when I found them crawling on my precious 3-year-old and I screamed my head off! We stayed at POR 8/24-8/30. This was the Alligator Bayou section, room 2748"

Remember, this thread will only be usefull if DISers post their experiences, and DISers care to check. I have no idea if this community will support such an idea as this, but it could serve not only as a quick check of the activity at a certain resort at a given slice in time, but it could also provide crude statistics as to the periodicity of reports, activity per season, per weather conditions, per building, etc. I assure you that I have no ulterior motive with the introduction of this thread other than establishing a central place to track and monitor bed bug activity at WDW rather than keeping track of multiple threads on the topic at a given time.

Hopefully, no news is good news. However, it's all up to you now...

I love this idea!!! I'm so freaked about the bed bug problem...I have two upcoming trips!!

Wow, are you an exterminator in real life??:rotfl: After reading your last thread: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1951598 requesting the WDW bedbug plan prior to your arrival, you are a very determined guy/gal! The bedbug won't be safe from you!

At least resort names wold be helpful for, if nothing else, it allows/encourages DIS members to be prepared to check the beds more carefully.

...and hopefully, will also tune out those who only care to make fun. To those: when it happens to you it will not be so funny when you must spend a few thousand dollars, after your Disney trip, to rid your home of the not so charming creatures.

:flower3:

It has been discussed by the moderators and we will not be allowing the posting of room numbers where there may have been bed bugs.

This can only create chaos among those visiting resorts. Disney seems to be keeping on top of the situation. If that should change then the issue can be revisited.

It is perfectly alright to discuss bed bugs and how to avoid them.

I'm really not sure how this is going to help. The problem is not resort-specific. It's guest-specific. Any hotel on the planet - ANY hotel - can have them if a guest with infested luggage walks in. You could create a lovely list of resorts that have had bedbug problems, make your reservation at one that's not on the list, and 5 minutes after you place that call, a guest with bedbugs walks into the resort you just reserved. I guarantee you that every Disney resort has had a bedbug issue in at least one room at some time since it opened.

Any reports are also sort of automatically out of date. If bedbugs are found in a room, and the resort staff is aware of it, the bedbugs in that room have been eradicated by now. So, if someone comes back from a trip and posts that they found bedbugs in room X at the WL, for example, the bedbugs are gone by the time the post is made. End of story.

If anything, i'd think a resort that had a recent bedbug issue would be the best place to stay for someone who's worried about them. I'm sure the staff is super-vigilant about checking mattresses after an incident.

I can't believe I'm even hearing about bed bugs at Disney. I hope they aren't at the deluxe resorts. :sad2: Maybe Disney could make a new animated feature about a bed bug and people will decide they are cute and will start asking for the rooms with the bed bugs.

I'm hoping that somehow you're making a joke. You can't be serious when you imply that bedbugs would be more common at less expensive resorts as opposed to more expensive resorts.

Your maid might accidentally bring them into your home by bedbugs clandestinely hitchhiking in her bag. Then your house has them, and you might not notice yet. Then they crawl into your suitcase, and those hitchhikers get a ride from you to your deluxe Disney resort. They YOU brought them into your deluxe resort, and there they are for the next deluxe guests to enjoy. Why would you suppose that people staying at value and moderate resorts would be more prone to bring bedbugs with them??? :sad2:

And before you think I'm crying sour grapes about your economic situation versus mine ... I'm staying at Contemporary in a tower-theme park view room in a few months, and I cross my fingers that the ladies from my cleaning service don't have any hitchhikers with them when they enter my home; the gardener doesn't actually come inside, except for that one time when he had to rewire the computer that runs the in-ground sprinkler system. It's just that I have no patience for elitist attitudes. My wife and I have worked hard to achieve what we've achieved in our careers, monetary and otherwise, but we never for a second think we are above anything or anyone just because of our spending power.

BigKids,

You expressed your intentions very well, and I applaud your efforts.

However, I think Lynne M hit the nail on the head. By the time the info makes it to this message board, it is outdated (i.e., the guest will report it to Disney, and Disney will eradicate the problem in that room), and therefore won't be of much use to anyone except to fuel the very hysteria you are hoping to quell.

Seriously, I understand why you're trying to do this, and I think it's cool :thumbsup2 ... but I just don't think it will do what you're hoping it'll do.

Errrrr.... I just said I hope they aren't at the deluxe resorts because I am staying at a deluxe resort in a few weeks and, given the choice, I would choose a bed-bug-free room. I too hope your servants have not brought bedbugs into your McMansion and that you do not in turn contaminate the Contemporary Resort.

Thank you, BigKids! This will be a good way to track the real issue, rather than hundreds of posts of guests freaking out...as you stated, it will give a good idea of authentic situations, seasons etc. At least resort names wold be helpful.

It allows DIS members to be prepared to check the beds more carefully.

...and hopefully, will also tune out those who only care to make fun. To those: when it happens to you it will not be so funny when you must spend a few thousand dollars, after your Disney trip, to rid your home of the not so charming creatures.

Thanks again, BigKids!! :flower3:

I agree. I really don't understand WHY these people need to come here and ridicule others :confused3 If it has no interest to you, why not just refrain from posting and let those that would like to actually take an interest in this thread post their feelings, fears, info, and leave well enough alone.
Minnie&Nana...I think its karma you are describing...

Maybe everyone should request a room where bedbugs where just reported. Then you know it is a room that was just inspected and debugged.

Let's face it, a lot of people out there are dirty. It is guests who bring and spread the bedbugs, not Dsiney and the world is full of people and it is hard to avoid them.

Maybe the bedbugs spread to your luggage from someone else's on the plane.
Maybe you get head lice from the person sitting next to you on the plane.
Maybe you catch the flu from someone at work or school.
Maybe you get hit by a car tomorrow.

Life is full of maybes. We can live in a bubble, or just live, have fun, and hope for the best.

Aren't you just frustrated that Disney did not answer your mail about this subject?

I think the mods made a wise decision, there is no need to stir op the pot .

I'm not sure how doing everything possible to ensure the health and safety of members of the DIS could be considered stirring the pot.

I for one think this thread was a great idea and could have been very helpful. Maybe I'm just weird but so far in the few months that I have been a Dis member, I have learned more from the MANY threads that have been locked or censored. Not from the "personal discussions" that sometimes take place (I just ignore those) but from the actual info posted and the answers to the questions asked. Maybe just a coincidence but it seems that way.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this forum and I have learn so many helpful things but I still feel like I will arrive at WDW in November with more questions than answers because I have been to afraid to ask my questions for fear of the consequences.

It isn't. Doing anything that actually does ensure health and safety would be great!

However, as has been explained, reporting on specific rooms (or even resorts) isn't doing anyone any good---it's not helpful at all. But, it certainly will cause folks to, say, request "not in room XXXX", or switch reservations, etc. for no good reason. By the time it is reported here, they'll be gone.
