The ULTIMATE Walmart haters site / thread.

We've agreed Walmart is not the ONLY company who does a few bad things, though why people would patronize a store knowing they do bad things is beyond me..
-----------------------------------

Because if anyone took the time to dig deep and investigate other companies you would find more of the same, if not worse, and people just can't stop shopping.. They have to purchase their goods somewhere..

Have you ever delved deeply into the labor practices of Disney? Do you still go there? Still buy their products?

Everyone has a good and bad union story. My point about the efforts was, they are aggressive and illegal. You don't get to break laws because you don't like unions sorry.

No "twisting of your words" - I made a direct response to the statement you made above..

"And you don't think unions do anything aggressive or illegal?" is hardly direct.

You made my point, I do make the time to know where my dollars are going. I'm pretty aware of Disney practices and other companies. I do the homework.

This thread, again, is about Walmart and people who do not like it. If you like Walmart, fine. If you want to discuss another company, why not start a new thread.

I could - but it's not important enough to me.. There are those here who have responded about negative experiences with Walmart and those here who have responded about positive experiences with Walmart.. So - my point has been made and there's no need to post individual threads for each and every company that operates in the same manner.. People can find that information on their own if they take the time to do so.. Things aren't always as cut and dried or black and white as people assume they are.. :flower:

What we are saying is, do the homework. Walmart is one of the ONLY companies who does a TON of ROTTEN things. Rainforest destruction, discrimination, union busting, locking people inside the store and preventing them from leaving, deceptive hiring practices, and much much more.
No they are not. I have read about quite a few companies doing the same things.

It's important enough to you to respond multiple times on this thread, and the 12000 other times on other threads.

Official post monitor, are you? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Relax.. It's only a message board.. Can I get you a cup of tea? An aspirin? Coffee? :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I just can't believe that anyone here shops at Wal-Mart because we've all been informed that only low class people shop there according to Conversationist/Questioner/Informer/Answerer....whoever they are today :rotfl2: Mighty odd to me that certain people around here have issues with Wal-Mart this week. Coincidence?

Walmart sells "Walmart" versions of name brand products: Huffy bikes, Levi jeans - they make products JUST for Walmart. You guessed it, these Walmart-products are not the same as the others and soon you will not have a choice to buy the 'good' huffy bike or the 'real' jeans because they will not be in business.

I guess I don’t see the problem with this specific example. This is standard practice when it comes to generic products. The store-brand canned green beans are manufactured by Dole or Libby or Green Giant and sold for less under the store’s name. This is how it almost always works, since it’s not like Kroger or Publix have their own green bean growing and canning facilities. The reason that the name brand green beans don’t go out of business is because some consumers prefer name brand green beans and will pay more for them. So as long as Huffy bikes and Levi’s jeans have loyal customers who think it’s worth it to pay a bit more for their brand names, they will be around. If they cannot differentiate their products enough from the generic, then they will seal their own fate, not Wal-Mart.

Here is an interesting point of view not yet mentioned on this thread.

http://multinationalmonitor.org/mm2004/122004/mokhiber.html

Ten Worst Corporations of 2004

Miller’s report’s innovation was in documenting how Wal-Mart’s low wages and inadequate benefits not only hurt workers directly, but impose costs on taxpayers. The report estimated that one 200-person Wal-Mart store may result in a cost to federal taxpayers of $420,750 per year — about $2,103 per employee. These public costs include:

$36,000 a year for free and reduced lunches for just 50 qualifying Wal-Mart families.
$42,000 a year for Section 8 housing assistance, assuming 3 percent of the store employees qualify for such assistance, at $6,700 per family.
$125,000 a year for federal tax credits and deductions for low-income families, assuming 50 employees are heads of household with a child and 50 are married with two children.
$100,000 a year for the additional Title I [educational] expenses, assuming 50 Wal-Mart families qualify with an average of two children.
$108,000 a year for the additional federal healthcare costs of moving into state children’s health insurance programs (S-CHIP), assuming 30 employees with an average of two children qualify.
“There’s no question that Wal-Mart imposes a huge, often hidden, cost on its workers, our communities and U.S. taxpayers,” Miller said. “And Wal-Mart is in the driver’s seat in the global race to the bottom, suppressing wage levels, workplace protections and labor laws.”

It is never easy choosing the 10 Worst Corporations of the Year — there are always more deserving nominees than we can possibly recognize.

I don't shop there because around here, the stores are always filthy, the shelves are never stocked with what I want to buy, and there's usually so much crappy merchandise laying around in the aisles that you can't get a shopping cart around them. Oh, and I'm just not a big fan of the quality of their merchandise. It looks cheap and ugly to me.

Oh, and on top of that, the employees are rude and nasty.

Give me Target any day!

I personally think it matters a lot if other companies besides Wal-Mart are doing these things. If they are, it indicates a change in the workplace in general and not just that Wal-Mart is an evil corporation on its own. In other words, it indicates a different problem.
