The Twelve Days of Swinter: From Castaway 'Key' to a Partridge in a Palm Tree!

After the Beauty and the Beast show was over, we all filed out of the theater like a herd of cattle. We stopped on the street and took a minute to figure out what we wanted to do next.

IMG_3242.jpg

ToT maybe? Um, no thanks! No one in my family is willing to ride that one.

DH absolutely LOVES Rock N Roller Coaster though, so we headed that way to check the wait time.

IMG_3244.jpg

IMG_3245.jpg

According to the sign, the wait was 50 minutes!!! I couldn’t believe it because the park wasn’t crowded at all. We were not willing to wait that long so we headed for the FP machines, but before we got there we heard a CM yelling out, “It’s walk-on folks! Don’t listen to the sign, listen to the human!” This was music to DH’s ears… not so much to mine. You see, DH had been nagging at us to ride this with him ever since 2008! DD had a great excuse up until now… she hadn’t been tall enough. My excuse had been the same all along… I was just too chicken!

I still haven’t figured out what happened. Maybe I had a temporary lapse of sanity, I don’t know, but somehow DH talked us into riding with him. And it was indeed walk-on! I hate it when there’s no line so I don’t have time to come up with an excuse and find the chicken exit! :rolleyes1

IMG_3248.jpg

I remember standing in that preshow room and being so scared that I thought I was going to throw up, pass out or both! :scared1:

IMG_3250.jpg

Right before we got on, DD started to freak out too because she asked if it went upside down, and well, you all know the answer to that one! She wanted to get off, but DH told her it was too late. That poor child was scared to death!

(I am such a dork that my heart is racing just writing about that ride! :sad2:)

We sat down, got harnessed in and then waited for maybe 10 seconds, but it felt like 1,000 years to me. I honestly was so scared that I thought I might have a heart attack! Then the light turned green and that thing took off like a bat out of you know where!

OH-MY-GOODNESS!

Words cannot express what that felt like! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case, I have to agree…

IMG_3252.jpg

That is what PURE terror looks like my friends! PURE TERROR! :rotfl:

And look at my DH back there laughing at us! I could just smack him!

I really don’t know how, but we did survive the ride, however, I will NEVER ride it again. I’ll admit that after that initial shock of the take-off, it was pretty fun, but my chicken heart just can’t handle that much excitement!

And what did DD think about it…

IMG_3256.jpg

DH gave me a thumbs up so DD had to put in her two cents worth with a BIG thumbs down!

IMG_3257.jpg

She was sooooo mad at him for taking her on that ride that she gave him the silent treatment for the next hour! What was it we learned in the last update… “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Yep, I can attest to that, and it starts young!

Goodbye RnRC!

IMG_3258.jpg

IMG_3255.jpg

DH knew it was going to be a long day if he didn’t make things right with DD, so he suggested we go do some shopping. A man knows he is in hot water when HE suggests a shopping trip!

We spent quite a bit of time roaming around in here…

IMG_3271.jpg

I tried again to get a picture of that store window.

I liked this Alice in Wonderland tea set too.

IMG_3269.jpg

DD managed to guilt her daddy into buying her a sketch book, so I guess that ride on RnRC worked out pretty well for her! ;)

A check of the time…

IMG_3270.jpg

We were getting thirsty so we made a pit stop back at Starring Rolls and got a few cups of water.

IMG_3274.jpg

I always bring along some of the Crystal Light To Go packs in our park bag so that we can just grab a free water and not have to use any of our snack credits for drinks. We’ve done this on every trip and it works out great!

We stopped for some PP pictures in front of the Fantasia topiaries.

IMG_3279.jpg

Our next stop was Toy Story Mania. I didn’t think there would be any FPs left at 2:00 in the afternoon, but I wanted to check anyway.

IMG_3281.jpg

I was shocked to see the stand-by time listed as 20 minutes! I could hardly believe it! I didn’t think there was such a thing as a 20 minute stand-by line for TSM, especially in the afternoon! AWESOME!

I didn’t even bother checking for FPs. We just decided to go on through the line. I had never been through the stand-by line anyway and I wanted to see all the neat details and of course, the talking Mr. Potato Head!

As soon as we walked in, I knew we wouldn’t even have to wait 20 minutes! Most of the queue line was empty!!!

IMG_3282.jpg

It looked like it was about a 5 minute line, tops! :worship:

IMG_3283.jpg

Blurry pic, but look at those empty lanes…

IMG_3284.jpg

IMG_3285.jpg

IMG_3286.jpg

IMG_3291.jpg

We didn’t even have time to listen to and enjoy Tater because we had to keep moving. Not that I am complaining!

We walked straight through until we got here…

IMG_3292.jpg

And then the line stopped! The ride broke down or something and we had to stand there for about 10 minutes. If it hadn’t been for that, TSM would’ve practically been a walk-on! Still though, a 15 minute wait is really nothing for that ride!

IMG_3294.jpg

Here is my pitiful score. The only way I can win is if I ride by myself!

IMG_3295.jpg

IMG_3297.jpg

As always though, it was great fun!

Then we did a little window shopping…

IMG_3304.jpg

Since we were pretty close by, we decided to go watch another one of our HS favorites, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. We thought we had timed it perfectly because they were letting the line into the theater as we walked up. However, we came up about 20 people too late to get in. We figured we would just wait since the shows run continuously all day and I knew we would get good seats since we were now towards the front of the line.

(WARNING! I know some of you let your young kids read along with you on TRs, but this next part is not kid friendly!)

We quickly realized that our plan was not going to work. There was a couple standing directly in front of us, I’d say in their late 50’s with what looked like their two granddaughters (about 3 & 5 years old). Well they might have been an older couple, but they were feeling mighty frisky that day because they were all over each other. I have seen public displays of affection before that have made me feel a little uncomfortable, but this one took the cake. The man kept grabbing the woman’s rear, putting his hands up the back of her shirt, and they were pretty much kissing nonstop. They paused for an occasional breath and went right back to it. And not to give you TMI, but it was hot and heavy French kissing! And I mean the ‘loose’ kind where you can see everything that is happening in there! EWWW! I felt like I was trapped in a really bad Viagra commercial! And we had been shoved in so close to them in line that if I had tripped, I would’ve been part of the action!

It didn’t seem to bother them at all that there were lots of kids around staring at them, including their own! I kept trying to distract DD thinking that eventually they would knock it off, but they didn’t. Now, my DH is the most laid back guy in the world and I have rarely known him to have words with anyone, but he was getting pretty ticked about it because it was so gross and inappropriate. I knew he wasn’t going to hold his tongue much longer, and he didn’t. He finally said to the guy, “Hey buddy, are you going to start having sex right here in the line or what?” I felt my heart sink into my chest because I could just envision them breaking out into a fight and us getting thrown out of the happiest place on earth! I HATE confrontation, but I understood why he felt like he had to speak up. But you won’t believe what happened… the guy totally ignored him! Then he started talking to his grandkids in a foreign language, Italian I think. I am sure that he heard and understood my DH, but just played it off like he didn’t. Anyway, by that point my nerves were shot! Did I mention that I hate confrontation? I asked DH if we could just get out of line and go do something else. He could tell that I’d had enough, so he agreed and said we would just come back later. Thankfully DD didn’t ask too many questions as we moved on. I mean who wants to explain to your 7 year old daughter while at Disney World that some people need to get a room?

The Great Movie ride was close by so that’s what we chose to do. Again, we got lucky and there was no line. We walked right on.

It was a fun trip through the movies as always! When we came out this is what the line looked like…

IMG_3359.jpg

I can’t believe just a few minutes earlier there was no wait at all! We sure timed that just right! I love it when that happens!

Up next: A second attempt at VotLM and some manly man time for DH!

OMGosh!!! :lmao::rotfl2:

I don't know what is funnier -- the RNRC picture or your DH's 'confrontation'. :rotfl:

I think we have a RNRC pic that looks just like that!! DH and DS10 looking like they might pee their pants and DS12 and I laughing and having a blast!!!!!!!:cool1: I'm glad your DD survived it. DS10 does not like it either. I just love the feeling of that take off!!!!!!!!!!!

That is so awesome that RNRC and TSM were both walk ons!! I was surprised at first when you said RNRC had a 50 minute wait. I was like - that never happens anymore!! :scared1: Glad that wait time was a mistake!! We rarely have to wait over 15 minutes for it ever since TSM went in. You were lucky on your TSM wait!! ::yes::

As for the confrontation. Oh. My. Gosh. Gross!! But, I can top that one. Unfortunately. On one night in January 2009 we were leaving MK. We went to the CBR bus stop and we were pretty far back in line. Looking ahead to where the bus would pull up when it came we could see a girl (probably in her early 20's) perched up on the rail. Her back was to us and she was obviously making out hot & heavy with someone. When they stopped for a breath we discovered it was another girl. :scared1: Yeah, try explaining that one to 2 kids. :sad2: Finally the man behind them said something like -- hey, there are kids here do you mind??? And luckily they gave it a rest.

WOW the things you see at WDW!!! :faint:

Isn't that the truth! I'm never really shocked anymore when I see people behaving badly because it happens so often. I guess I just wish people would be respectful at such a family oriented place as WDW. The place is crawling with kids, it was MADE for kids, so why act like that when you know it's going to cause a scene. :sad2: If you want to do 'adult' things then get a room or go to a club or something, ya know?

I know you love RnRC, but I will never understand how you like that take off feeling. My DH is the same way though. It just scares the puddin' out of me! :scared1: If we ever meet up at WDW, me and your DS10 will hang out in the gift shop while you dare devils get your thrill on! :rotfl:

We got VERY lucky on TSM. I still can't believe it was so empty. I actually wonder if maybe the ride had broken down earlier and that had cleared everyone out. It's hard to believe that it was empty for no reason.

OMG Rinky, i am laughing so hard right now I am almost peeing my pants, first you and the R&R Coaster ride experience and then those people in Mermaid attraction line and your hubby's reaction, not really funny but then again picturing it and then your dh reaching the breaking point just got me in stitches!!:lmao: What is wrong with some people??? Its not only disney atttractions you see at the world!!!:rotfl: You sure did break up my boredom and I thank you!!!:)

OH MY GOODNESS. I laughed for about 5 minutes at your RNRC picture! :lmao: I'm sorry you and your DD didn't enjoy it, but at least it made for a hilarious picture!

WHAT?!?!?! Wow, I didn't ever think I'd see the day of a 20 minute standby line for Toy Story Mania (and I probably won't ever see it, at least in person)! That's amazing! Wow.

I'm so appalled by what happened in line for Little Mermaid! That is just disgusting. And right in front of your kids? Ugh... :scared: I honestly don't blame your husband for saying something, but I'm like you and I would have been terrified!

Hi Rinky!

 about the couple in the line!! Not very family-friendly lol.

I'm so impressed you and DD went on Rock n Roller Coaster :cutie: that was actually the first ride I ever went on that went upside down.. I think because I couldn't see the loops from the queue, and my Dad said "it's a Disney ride, how bad can it be?!" :rotfl: .. but since then, I've not been scared of any roller coaster :thumbsup2

It's ok, that kind of stuff is always funny after the fact! I got a pretty good chuckle out of remembering it all too. And yes, apparently you can get more 'show' than you bargained for in the World!

I was hesitant to post that picture from RnRC b/c, well, it was pretty embarrasing! :rotfl: But it was just too funny not to! I look ridiculous enough, but DD holding her breath is so funny to me! :lmao:

We got majorly lucky with TSM! :worship:

That couple was so nasty. When we started to leave, the CM running the line actually told us not to go b/c another show would be starting in about 10 minutes. I was thinking to myself... "Lady, in 10 more minutes, that chick will be pregnant and somebody will be arrested!" :rotfl2:

That is so funny! That is exactly what my DH told DD about riding Dinosaur! I agree that most Disney rides are pretty tame, but not ALL of them. I guess I am a die hard chicken, because I have been on many roller coasters, and they still scare me to death!

Oh man! What a day! Love the TSM walk on deal. Hate the Gross PDA people! I noticed people in Europe were a bit more "open" about that stuff and figure it's more common there, but still.... I probably would have had to say something too. Before my kid did! (one of my children has been known to ask innocent questions about other's behavior - loudly) HA!

Rock N Roller Coaster...I've considered it. A tiny bit. Maybe someday. After I take Dramamine. Before I eat. Maybe. You say the takeoff is the bad part - is the rest "ok"?

Your picture - priceless!!! I feel bad for you both!

Your post made me laugh! So are you saying you're on the fence about RnRC? I kind of detect some waffling there. :rotfl:

I'd say the whole ride is intense. It's fast, dark, goes upside down, has some major Gs going on, the whole bit. But for me the worst part was the take-off. Honestly, I just can't tell you how much I hated that part! I felt like I left all my guts back at the starting point when that ride let loose. Not enjoyable. Not at all! I think the rest was pretty fun though. I don't mind going upside down. Never have. I just HATE the drop feeling which is what the take-off felt like to me times 10! I'd say, don't let me talk you out of it, but enter at your own risk! :rotfl:

I have an 'outspoken' child just like yours. ;) She doesn't really mean anything by it, but if it comes into her mind, it is likely to come out of her mouth. So I can sympathize with you on that.

oh and I can't believe you really went on rock and roller coaster, your hubby was in the dog house but good with the females in his family!! :lmao: hope you got some revenge somewhere during your trip!!!:rotfl:

You DH looks so calm sitting behind the two of you on RnR!!!!
Yup, I was laughing.:rotfl2:

That couple waiting for VotLM, well that's just disguising. I don't understand if people have different standards in other countries, but doesn't the saying go, "when in Rome?"
It isn't the norm to act that way here...

I don't blame you for getting out of line and going to a different "show".

I know that picture speaks volumes,

but...

I think this one says a lot more.

That man right there is in some serious trouble with the little girl, but this is going to be a great memory and good for laughs for the rest of your lives!

Pretty gross about the people in VotLM. I'm not one for confrontation, either. I think I would have turned my back on them and just gone on in, being sure I didn't sit anywhere near them. :sad2: I hope that's the last experience like that you ever have in Disney World.

Rinky loved the update! I have never done RNRC and never will but IMO it has tone worse than TOT and I have done that twice, once out of stupidity and once on a dare but never again. Love the picture on RNRC.

Maybe in European countries displays of public affection are common place and not frowned upon? I know I would not have enjoyed being behind that couple either.

That is a great idea about the crystal light packets, we used most of our stack credits on water and soda. Of course being on the DxDP we really did not want any food snacks most days.

OMG I laughed so hard at the RnR picture !! :lmao: (I need that today)

I was wondering if my boys should ride it this year (finally tall enough) but I think I'll hold off a few more trips. :thumbsup2

SO weird about the PDAers .. some peole have no self respect or respect for those around them. I would have been annoyed and uncomfortable as well. We've never done TVoLM .. I wonder if my boys would like it ? SO many things we avoid because of having boys (not that I don't mind not having to stand in line to meet princesses ) but I have always been curious about this one attraction.

Loving your report !! :goodvibes

Thats so funny you mention the public display of affection.....I don't mind a quick kiss, but come on! I'm glad your DH said something.
When we were there on Thursday we rode the raft over to Tom Sawyer island and we were al lcrammed and it was hot, but the young couple next to us were holding on to each other like they were one person. I was just disgusted by that. It was hot, and I had no desire to Touch anyone near me, let alone hold on for dear life like that. And then she kept gazing in his eyes and rubbing his back with her finger nails in that seductive way, you know, not just a nice love rub, but one with losts of messages attached, and it just really bothered me. Luckily Claire was clueless.

Later that day, I was waiting for Skip and Claire, who had jumped on the people mover while I had gone to Carrousel of Progress and I saw another young couple come down the escalator thing smooching the whole time down. If I was near them, I would've told them to get a room too. Why do you have to kiss like that at a park? Seriously?
I did give Skip a few hugs through out the day...being so happy to be there...but nothing "gross". :lmao:

Great photos of CBR -- thank you for posting them!

One of my long-term WDW goals is to visit each resort and explore (and eat.....) what it has to offer. I think I might have to move CBR to the head of the queue for my trip this summer!

-- Dave

Is been a little while, hope things are ok and its just life that's getting in the way of the DIS!!!:surfweb :goodvibes:goodvibes

The Marie shirt that your DD has on is so cute.

The RR picture says it all. I ride it with my niece and nephews but it is not my favorite ride. Thanks goodness when it is just DH and I, we skip all coasters. He is not into thrill rides.
