The Turf Club Bar and Grill: Dinner
This eatery is currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but the lounge was open. I use the term lounge loosely here as it really is a space where you can have a drink, watch a couple of televisions and wonder what this space could be if Disney injected some money into it. The lounge area sort of paints an unwelcoming and uninspiring transition to a lone pedestal where you check-in for dinner.
Reservations are highly suggested, and I can see why. The restaurant is very, very small. Perhaps I should rephrase it as it is intimate. We were seated at the farthest end with a few tables and had a window overlooking the boat dock at SSR. The view was very calm and peaceful as there were no customers on the patio due to the heat.
We got the complimentary baked cheddar rolls/biscuits with some sort of pepper butter. The rolls were hot, and the butter just melted into the rosemary roll. Delicious and a welcomed way to start a meal.
Then came our artichoke appetizer. If there is one vegetable that has zero flavor, this is it. However, the baked and fried artichokes (yes, we checked with our server) had golden raisins and a light, almost bean sprouts, topping. Whatever they use to cook and prepare this appetizer works. And it works incredibly well. We could have easily ordered an additional plate.
I got the prime rib which is supposed to be this eatery's claim. We also got the salmon. The salmon was, well, very good. Roasted potatoes and carrots were the vegetables for each entree. The prime rib I ordered rare. It was a behemoth sized cut and served with horseradish upon request. Yes, it had some fat, but I trimmed it off with no effort. This steak was prepared just right and was not chewy at all. The Turf Club can rest easy knowing the prime rib is a winner.
