The truth about mouse ears.

Our family is planning our 1st Disney trip and I am curious about mouse ears. Do people actually wear them around the park or are they a waste? I'm ok with cheesy and getting into the spirit, but don't want to waste our money. Thanks.

My daughter was 8 and bought a few pairs, but my husband and I did not. There's a good mix of people who wear them and who don't. I found them to be a pain on the rides though.

I agree it's a good mix of people who wear them and don't. I have never had the desire to own a pair until our last trip before Christmas. I found a really cute red pair with glitter dots and white fuzzy ears. I could only find them in the youth size but they were so cute I didn't care. I wore them proudly. They just make me happy.

A lot of people wear them around the park. I don't particularly care of them, but my fiancee wears them all the time. She prefers the Minnie Mouse ears that are on a headband as opposed to the actual hats.

It's only a waste if you don't enjoy wearing the hat.

I never got to DL or WDW without the proper headgear. I have ears for all occasions. DH has a few pairs but wears them less frequently than I. You will see plenty of people wearing them and just as many not. Do whatever you want to do, no peer pressure either way.

I love them, but I need a brim - I usually wear them if it's cloudy, but if it's sunny I have to wear a cap.

I tend to wear my Minnie Headband ears at least 2-3 days of a week-long trip. I may not wear them all day, but I usually wear them a few hours at a time.

I have a hard time keeping the ears on my head. However, a few years ago, I did splurge for a pair of Frozen Mouse Ears, and I wore them to Disneyland's Halloween party. it was a fun night. I can't wear the mouse ears that are attached to headbands, because the headbands give me a headache.

I like to wear the headbands, but after a while they hurt my head so I don't wear them every day when i'm at the parks.

If you're concerned about money, maybe you should try to make your own. I'm sure it's much cheaper and you can design them however you like. There are a lot of tutorials online.

I got the headband last time, and it wound up hurting my head after a while. I would definitely buy another hat style though! You see a mix of people doing different things. Do you!

I ordered a couple pairs on headbands from Etsy for my upcoming trip. For my next trip I want to order (or make) a pair on a ball cap for some more sun cover.

My daughter wore hers, but it was a constant take them off and put them back on. My son and I bought ears and never wore them.

I prefer a large brimmed hat myself.

I am thinking about going the route of making my own for a my next trip. I think it could be fun, more comfortable and I can coordinate with outfits. I have also thought about using some older brimmed hats and adding ears to those.

Ohhh we wear ours ... and we have several, including in hat form It's so fun ... we also have disney shirts that we wear during our stay. All things Disney get put away when we're not there, though, to make it special.

Begrudgingly essential. I start out wearing my yarmulke. Then I give in and put my earhat over my yarmulke. Then I eventually give up the yarmulke and just wear my earhat everywhere with nothing else underneath, because as long as my head's covered it's all good. And then I kick myself for not having done that in the first place. Point being you may not want them now and then end up totally in the spirit anyway ;-)

Also, if you can't take the sun, a Disney cap is as in the spirit as an earhat.

I have 5 pairs of Minnie headband ears, some from etsy and some from the parks, and I will be getting more for our Christmas trip. I love them!

My youngest wore his Chip and Dale hat-style ears every day on his first trip, but he hasn't worn ears on any other trip. My oldest has Oswald ears, but he doesn't like keeping track of them in the parks.

You'll see the on a lot of people in the parks, but you'll also see a lot of people without them. The only time I ever bothered with ears was when I "graduated" from the Disney College Program and they gave us special ears, and then I just wore them around the park for one afternoon after getting them embroidered. Never much felt like bothering with it otherwise, though I do have a Goofy pirate hat (like a bandana with elastic in the back and Goofy ears hanging down) that I like to bring for my funny Disney hat fix (I find it more comfortable than Mickey ears).

It's between 2 and 3. I'm not a big Mickey fan, so I never liked them. I imagine DS will (last year's Mickey obsession is what inspired this trip.)
