The truth about extreme couponing...

Wow, I watched that show and never realized that she was committing fraud! She sickened me by wiping out the shelf of mustard while her husband is saying he doesn't like it, though, so I didn't pay much attention after that.

I was wondering when she was showing off her Bounty paper towels and said they are always free. I've never seen coupons for individual rolls, have you? Aren't they always for 6-packs or more?

I've just recently started couponing. From Kroger this week, I got free Suave deodorant, free Danimals, .33 Dole Pineapple and .33 frozen veggies. Got enough for all of us for a while and that was enough to make me happy! I think most of those people need to move on to the "Hoarders" show! :confused3: One cannot live on Butterfingers, toothpaste and deodorant alone!

Did anyone else notice how much weight the coupon guy gained since the last show he was on? I'm guessing that kind of proves how hard it is to have a healthy and balanced diet when all you eat are things you can get for free with coupons.

What I can't underdstand is why is Rachael Ray hyping this show when their is known fruad going on? Someone needs to send RR this board or some of the links we have shared here.

I don't think the whole show is bad and should be banned/not promoted/taken off the air because one person apparently cheated.

If there is no legal way to buy coupons then they are all "cheaters" or thieves to be more exact.

There has to be a legal way or else how could they sell the Entertainment books? You are buying coupons.

I don't think the Entertainment Books have coupons for manufacturers' products (like food or health items). I think it has coupons for local and national businesses; which is more or less advertisements for them (As always, I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.)

Now that I've been reading the tiny print on coupons, I did see one that said it can't be resold.

"Extreme Couponing" frustrates me. Why have a stockpile of stuff you won't use for years -- donate some of it to a shelter or a food pantry. Like that woman who stockpiles diapers and she doesn't even have a baby. I'm sure there's a shelter that would be thrilled to take it off her hands. Or here's another thought -- don't buy it at all. They are spending money to "save" money. At least they showed Nathan sending stuff to the troops (may have been staged for TV, don't know).

I don't know the legalities, but I guess the retailers allow the entertainment company to sell the books (is that usually done as a fundraiser?). The grocery coupons have actual wording on them they are not to be sold, transferred, etc.
I'm curious if any companies have "gone after" all these coupon clipping services. If they consider it worth their time, etc.

Interesting, here is what my All detergent coupon said: "Void if reproduced, tranferred, used to purchase products for resale or where prohibited/regulated by law."

It doesn't say it's actually "illegal" to sell the coupon just that the coupon is void.

Yeah, I don't think that Proctor and Gamble can make anything "illegal" since they are not the government, but if someone tries to use a void coupon maybe that would constitute fraud? :confused3 Would someone really be prosecuted for this?

The clipping services get away with it b/c they charge for their time and labor to clip and mail the coupons. They (supposedly) are not charging for the coupon itself, merely the time, labor and postage involved. That's how they avoid the legal trouble. It's fine line, though.

This show does not represent the real world, in that they go in and buy 100 bottles of mustard, 40 deoderants, and 60 packages of dental floss for pennies. All well and good, and the show is entertaining, but like PP's have said, and I said to my husband "where's the milk, meats, produce etc?" Thats not "grocery shopping":rolleyes1

That being said I do like the show and I am happy if I save $10 a week, and getting things for free is great. But I dont buy coupons (I may buy one Sunday paper and a friend gives me his coupon inserts at work on Monday mornings and I do printables too)
I was excited to get 3 tubes of toothpaste for $1 total yesterday.
The best I ever did was saved $64 on a $185 order (so paid $121) and that fed my family of 5 (plus dog and cat) for 2 weeks. Its the best I can do! :confused3
But its good enough for me!:cutie:

Isn't that considered being "transferred" which some of the coupons prohibit in their small print? :confused3 (just wondering really, I don't have or use a coupon clipper service.)

i wonder if they will now. It may not have been worth the effort before it was glorified.

You are right, As far as the entertainment book, the retailors deal with the publisher. It isn't a deep concept. Same with the papers. They don't just randomly decide which coupons to print.:rotfl:

TLC is investing allegations of coupon fraud against that lady. Maybe we won't see her after another episode or 2, tho they may already have the entire season wrapped up.

I watched three episodes of this show to see if I could pick up some couponing tips, but didn't learn anything I didn't know. The lady with the mustard made me angry because she couldn't possibly use that much mustard in her lifetime. But it is after all a reality show!
