Day 3 - "....wow, three days in Florida....we FINALLY get to see a Disney park..."
....Monday promises to bring more humidity to the Florida residents, and, on cue, it's already a blazing 82 degrees by early morning. We'll certainly need our strength to keep up with the younger, more sturdy park-goers, so Ron has promised to provide us with a hearty, rib-stickin' breakfast fit for kings - yup, that's right, Bacon and cheese-and-egg omelettes with toast and juice....did I mention that there was gonna be BACON? Breakfast has always been his specialty, and, as far as I'M concerned, as long as someone ELSE is next to the stove, I'm fine with that.....
...we say our brief good-byes, as our friends, along with my son Jesse and his GF are not nearly as ready as our trio is, to beat the morning Orlando traffic, which winds up being an important tidbit of info for the rest of the trip. We are FINALLY at the entrance toll booth to the AK parking lot, which is really a strange sight for us, since we are so used to simply beboarding the Mickey buses at the bus stops....wow, the price of parking has really skyrocketed!
....once past the security tables and entrance, we made our way to the most logical place to go in AK:
....and quick-stepped it over the bridge:
....towards places due East, in search of the elusive Yeti:
...winding through the rooms on the queue, we learned many interesting things about the fearsome Abominable Snowman and his sacred land....you can well imagine that we opted to wait for the front car, for that maximum ride-pleasure-experience-ratio...
...our coaster-junkie-rush now thoroughly satified, we idly ambled through the gift shop afterwards...
....so, where to next? We purchased ice cream and sat on the nearest bench, people-watching for a moment or two to ponder our dilemma. The sign beckoned to us and so we decided to heed its advice:
...you guessed it - Kali River Rapids!
...although the "Wait Time" sign blared out 55 minutes, we weren't in any particular hurry. Besides, the queue kept moving along at a merry pace, so it wasn't like we were stuck in any one specific spot for any great length of time:
....right about the point where we began to think that there was no end in sight [as far as the line went], the Fastpass line joined with the 'regular' line abruptly before pausing before the bridge-like structure and down the stairs to the revolving loading area. This is also about the point where we lost Ron. Seeing the groups of thoroughly drenched guests did little to reassure him that his 'precious hair' would not be victim to the many water receptacles and bumps and spins of Kali....okay, dude, so take my purse and camera, and wait for us on the bridge over yonder. You know, the one that allows the elephant statues to spit water on us.....and DON'T FORGET TO TAKE PICTURES OF US AS WE PASS BENEATH....
...I so enjoy this ride, but, after experiencing the
Popeye ride yesterday, this attraction was tame, at best. Please note the conspicuous absence of our pics [Dylan and mine] as we forged ahead along the Ganges, or Euphrates, or Po, or whatever river we were supposedly on....next stop, Dinoland....
....we briefly stopped to experience that crazy, spinny, topsy-turvy Primeval Whirl Ride:
...before entering
Dinosaur!:
...you have to really hold on tight or you'll lose your bearings (and perhaps your lunch too....), but it was worth a second go-around...
....after that double-your-pleasure-double-your-fun extravaganza, we headed off...
...to relive the only other thing that we had wanted to stay in the park for -
It's Tough To Be a Bug!....I'm just uncomfortable when you 'get stung' by the 6-legged critters that take over the theatre...the only ride that we have not yet tackled is the Kilimanjaro Safari Ride, but the wait is more than an hour. Of course, by now the heat and humidity is in full force, so, after grabbing some refreshments, we paused enough to bid adieu to AK and headed back to our vehicle, which, BTW, was hot enough to fry an egg...
