Day Two~ April 18: Magic Kingdom and our First Character Meal (breakfast)
We received our wake-up call from none other than Stitch. Oh the insanity! I looked outside, and DH turned on the weather for what seemed like a beautiful day. Our luck was flowing like cran-grape juice does in our household! DH wanted to drive to MK since he liked the idea of leaving whenever we wanted and not waiting for the bus. Our plan of attack for today was to hang around MK in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland until around 10:45 am and hitch the resort monorail around to catch our Chef Mickeys PS at 11:10 am.
Oh yeah, and on the way out of the room, DH speaks his first Stupid Things DH Speaks During This Trip: Do they come and make the beds? I just looked at him and laughed. Do you honestly think that they wouldnt make the beds at this resort because it is Disney?! Once again I laughed and we walked on. I seriously have nothing further to add to this one.
DH started up the car and nothing. Actually, it was a lovely cranking sound and I DH said That didnt sound good. My stomach sank. All these negative thoughts began to fill my head, but I quickly pushed them aside. DH just sat there and my logical side took over. I instructed DH to go grab the rental info from the room, and we would meet at the bust stand. DH could easily call from the bus and hopefully get this figured out. He ran up to the room and I sauntered over to the bus and waited. DH ran up just as the first MK bus pulled away. He called the rental place and was told we needed to be with the car when they send someone out. I knew this could easily wait until later in the afternoon, as I had our plans laid out for the morning and our time was slowly being eaten up by this small setback.
We arrived at MK just as the opening ceremonies were finishing up. Not too bad time-wise. People were literally POURING onto the streets through the turnstiles. I really think I saw two moms about to go to blows over the line for renting strollers! Ok, not really THAT much of a mob-scene, but close. At least it felt that way. I was getting the feeling that this was what DH and I would be encountering during the trip. I took a deep breath and picked up the pace to catch up with DH.
You will notice during my reports, that I lag behind DH a lot. There are two reasons for this. #1: DH is 64 and thus has VERY long strides in comparison to my 53 ¾ in strides. #2: I have rheumatoid arthritis and the ol knees get swollen and kinda make walking not so easy anymore (I say this like I am a bazillion years old, but I promise it only feels that way sometimes).
On our way down Main Street, we passed all the characters out signing autographs and posing for pictures. Children were lined up anxiously awaiting their turn. I turned towards the castle and grabbed DHs hand. We were truly home. I love the sight of the castle with the early morning sunlight shining upon it. The mirror was huge, yes. And those same early morning rays really made it sparkle.
Enough with the sentiments, we were on to Space Mountain! We arrived and saw there was a lovely line out front. The CM states it is closed for at least half an hour. We grab fast passes now, because we know it will be super busy later. We made our way over to Winnie The Pooh and then Peter Pan. I tell DH we can head to Haunted Mansion so he can get some manly rides in after dealing with my kiddie ones. This is where DH is determined to record the Ghost Host into his phone. Here is my disclaimer on this one: Please dont try this at home. I have no idea if it is legal or not (Im guessing no), but DH is a grown man who is capable of making his own decisions. After HM, we were able to ride Space Mountain during the fastpass time and walked right on with no wait.
Time was ticking as it was almost 20 minutes until Chef Mickeys. We hopped onto the resort monorail and waited for it to take off. A family boarded (mom, dad, daughter and son). They were a really pleasant family. I am always eager to meet and speak with new people and this family was our first interaction. The father told us how they hadnt been to WDW in 7 years (since their honeymoon when the daughter was conceived). They asked us about different rides and said how neat Stitch was. DH and I just smiled and nodded our heads. Even though we didnt feel the same, we like to keep negative ideas to ourselves so as not to spoil someone elses memories, know what I mean? Anyways, the dad asked us if we had ridden Dinosaur, and I exclaimed how much I love that ride and how it always shakes me up a bit. In a good way
The dad then told us about how his young son had ridden it and ended up wetting himself during the ride! We thought this was the funniest comment we had ever heard! Not because of what he told us, but because his son was very proud of it- the son was looking at his own new shirt, and looked up proudly and smiled at us! LOL! What a hoot! DH and I discussed this after we got off at the Contemporary of course. DH thought it was great that everyone was laughing about the incident, and there was no shame. No shame! They really seemed like a family who shared everything with one another, where there are no secrets and no embarrassments. Very refreshing. If you are that family and are reading this, DH and I want to tell you thanks for making our day!
It is 11 am and I am STARVING! I eat breakfast everyday, and always within the first two hours after waking up. If not my tummy gets that emptiness feeling in it, like I havent had anything to eat in decades. I am growing very excited about eating those much anticipated Mickey Waffles, and meeting Mickey himself!
We checked in at the podium, and are told to line up to get our pictures taken. Pictures?!? Nobody told me about pictures! I ask DH if my hair looks ok, especially after riding Space Mountain. He laughed and said You ALWAYS look beautiful. Good answer. The photographer was funny, and I felt like we were having our picture taken for the prom! LOL! He even included Pal Mickey into the shot (which I loved). In the adjacent area, I had spotted Goofy, and became even MORE excited! Remember, DH LOVES his Goofy
I step up to Goofy and ask if he didnt mind me taking his picture with DH. Goofy shook his head no and I snapped a few with DH beaming from ear to ear. Here is one of the shots:
I thanked Goofy, and DH and I watched him sign a few autographs for some kids. I sat, and DH stood in front of me, as we waited to be called to get our table. It really became quite dead in there, and I watched as Goofy was standing around and doing a jig in place (probably to entertain himself). I watched as he noticed DH (same Goofy, and of course DH had made a lasting impression on Goofy
), and sauntered over. I slowly pulled out my camera (DH was staring into space behind me), and Goofy put his arm around my DH. His face went from quite quizzical as to who had their arm around him, to illuminated as he discovered it was his pal- Goofy! They just stood there next to each other and acted like they were best friends. Of course DH played it pretty cool, but since I know him so well, I KNEW he was ecstatic! Here is the pic I took of the two of them:
Breakfast was excellent and I certainly ate my weight (all 110 pounds of course
HA!) in Mickey waffles and bacon. Thats all I remember eating! The characters were amazing and very full of energy. This was to be our first of many character breakfasts. We agreed we would do it again. I think DH may have not been excited about it at first (I almost had the thought that he was too
OLD
for it. YIKES! But I dismissed that idea), but after that meal he was eager to try another one. We have a dinner planned with the characters at Liberty Tree Tavern, right? he had asked. Yes dear, its on Wednesday night. Thats when I knew I had him hooked.
It was fun to talk to the characters. I offered Pluto some of my chocolate milk, and he sniffed it and acted like he was lapping it up with his tongue. Minnie came over and I took a pic of her right after she kissed DH on the cheek. Boy THAT sure got him red!
I told her I better be careful, and that DH might run away with her. She shook her head no and acted coy. I love how she walks around very prissy and swishes her dress with her hands. Very lady-like (and one of the best Minnie Mouses I have seen
. Goofy stopped around again (we were near the waiting area) but it wasnt the same one. This one was right handed (DH told me his pal was left handed- he noticed that Goofy signing with his left hand! LOL!). Overall our experience was a 10 on a scale of 1-10! We had a blast, and I once again loved watching the children approach the characters. It was fun to swing our napkins around our head when it was time to party and dance, too!
DH and I decided to head back to MK and ride POTC before we finally took the bus back and get our rental car taken care of for the afternoon.
