The Tower Of Terror

my adult DS has always avoided thrill rides until 2013. We were at DL and apparently if his big sister will do it, he'll do it! He did ToT and other thrill rides there and had a blast! In 2000 he was scared to try Test Track so my DD and I rode without him and then reported back to him that he would love it..... and love it he did! Guess he knows big sis and Mom would give it to him straight!! :love1:

But I won't do ToT, RNRC, Space Mt, Everest..... not my thing

My DD9 LOVES ToT! I, myself, am not a huge fan of drop rides...but I do love roller coasters! Luckily, my DH rides with her as many times as she likes, lol, so I don't have to. I will do it once per trip just to say that I rode it. Me and the DS10 usually just stroll around and browse while they are riding because he is a one and done person per trip too. In all seriousness though, I say go for it ONE time...just so you can say you conquered your fears! :)

I had chickened out of it a few times before I was finally persuaded to get on in 2012, the ride is fantastic & not to be missed, if you really don't want to have the stomach churning drop sensation all you have to do is lift your rear end up of your seat ever so slightly when the doors open & you see the park & you wont feel a thing, trust me.

Hahaha, my DD9 is the same, but its me that has to ride it every time with her. DH will ride it once (maybe twice) and that's him done so it's down to me. Every time I get on the ride, I hate it. I end up sitting there complaining to DD that I don't like it and asking constantly why I am on it. You enter that lift shaft and are hit with warm air and the first drop (or rise) and I'm giggling like a school girl and when I get off, its very much me skipping declaring how much I love it.

I hate the actual ride section of Tower of Terror, and immediately afterwards vow to never go on it again, but then a few hours pass and I want to ride it again because the whole theme and experience is so good.
If you can handle the Hulk you can handle Tower of Terror definitely, I nearly collapsed in that indoor queue section of the Hulk my legs were shaking that much.

Thanks Craig! I think I could get on the Hulk so easily because I had already done one of the dragons and there was close to no wait so I didn't have that much time to think about it. Thinking about it's unavoidable when it comes to Tower of Terror!

Thanks! I guess worst case scenario I suffer through the drop portion and never go again and best case scenario I end up having fun!

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to try that when I (hopefully) go.

That sounds like me on most theme park rides! I REALLY want to love ToT, fingers-crossed I do.

I love the other three you won't ride! Your DS sounds like me. I tend to love rides once I've worked past my anxiousness and gotten on them!

I actually dislike normal elevators and very much dislike free falls, but I have always enjoyed ToT. The nice thing about it compared to other free fall rides is that it isn't a straight 60 ft drop - it varies every time sometimes having multiple short drops and other times having a few longer ones.

I'm local as well and while I don't go on it every time I'm in DHS (I actually don't think there is a ride I do every visit), I do try to get on every few trips because it is one of the best rides IMO

I enjoy ToT because of the theming. I had a chance to ride it on six times this trip. The rest of my family only wanted to do only a couple of rides and RNRC was down all day one of the days we were there.

I finally did Rip Ride Rocket this past trip. I tried on our last Universal trip but the line just wasn't moving. (Go before 10:00 AM for short lines even with Express Pass.) I preferred The Dragons and Hulk. There are three or four platforms that are designed to slow you down which, in my opinion, really dulls down the ride.

My friend's sister absolutely hates rollercoasters and refused to even try ToT for the longest time. We finally convinced her to go on it and she said she found it boring!

On the flip side, i went to DLRP with an ex once and tried to get him on ToT, when he finally went on, he decided to never go on it again.

Personally I don't find it intense, i love the butterfly feeling it gives you and that feeling of flying.

I used to petrified of all the rides though but found the anticipation was what was scary, not the ride itself.

Everything that has been said about the falling sensation is true, BUT it is no worse than a tall roller coaster drop. And you can tell when it is going to happen as well so that you can brace yourself.

Hi all!

I'm a Florida native and teenager who has been to Disney a countless amount of times. I'm a bit of a ride chicken, or I at least have a fear of the unknown when it comes to rides. I have tried (and will do) every thrill ride at Universal with the exception of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rock It & Dr. Doom's Fear Fall. A couple of weeks ago I finally tried both the Dragons and the Hulk for the first time and had a blast! I have also done (and love) every thrill ride at Disney, other than Tower of Terror. I have told myself I would try it the next time I went every time I've been since meeting the height requirement, but walking onto Sunset Boulevard and seeing the looming tower makes my heart beat out of my chest. I've been through the pre-show area and taken the chicken exit more times than I'd like to admit. I LOVE the theming of the pre-show as I'm a fan of the The Twilight Zone. I just cannot bring myself to ride it! I hate the feeling of my stomach dropping with a passion. I would love to experience the ride, but I really want to know what kind of sensation the drops create.

If you can handle the Hulk, you can definitely handle Doom and I think also Terror as well. I find Hulk to be the most intense ride at either park.

You will get that sensation of your stomach dropping, but I don't really get a sensation of "falling". It's more like when you are going high and hard on a playground swing.

I see the ride this way: You remember those little "jolly jumpers" that hang from a door frame and allow babies to jump up and down a bit? That's what the ride seems like to me, a big jolly jumper!

I'm not a thrill rider, but ToT is great! Even my 75 year old mom rides with me every time. Huge smiles on the automatic picture Disney takes on the ride.

Having said that, I did convince a friend with developmental difficulties to ride with me. She didn't like it at all, it scared her because she didn't know when the drops would take place; I still feel bad about it, so I'm always hesitant to tell anyone they love a ride.

I would go on RRR, but it just doesn't look like that great of a ride to me. I do think the music aspect is cool, but I can go on RR for my roller coaster with music fix!

In all my years I just can't... Give me any rollercoaster that flips you upside down and dangles you and I'm happy as can be. But those free fall type rides... It physically makes me feel ill. My daughter desperately wanted to go on one of those froggy bounce drop rides at the fair (she was 5 at the time) and I nearly died. I've done the Rockin Rollercoaster, I've done all the ones at USF/IoA and ToT... I just... I can't. Every year I swear I'm going to do it. I tell myself to suck it up princess and do it and every year I backdown. I've convinced myself I'll do it in September, but my husband just laughs at me. He loves me despite it LOL

I've never been on a free-fall type ride, but I'm scared I'm gonna hate it! I really hope I love it though.

ToT is one of the only rides that gives me anxiety as I am waiting in the queue. I think it is because you can see and hear the people screaming as the elevators go up and down as you walk down Sunset Blvd! My DH will not go on most intense rides, so I am left to experience it on my own. I am happy to say that, even though I get nervous leading up to boarding the ride every time, I always LOVE it and am sad if I get a less intense drop sequence.

You never know if you will hate it or love it until you try it! Good luck on your next visit!
