The tipping thread got me thinking...

Do you still tip the same regardless of whether it's a sit down meal that your server has brought you or a buffet?

Thought this would be an interesting subject and I think just about the only "tipping" that wasn't covered in the other thread (or if it was I missed it!)

We generally tip the same regardless, but i've often wondered if most people do it this way.

Whether at WDW or elsewhere, the tip depends on the service, both in quality and quantity.

Believe it or not buffets are more work. I no longer serve food but I hated buffets because I am lugging away more plates for less tip. I tip the same across the board.

I usually tip more at a sit down restaurant (usually around 20%). I tip at least 15% at a buffet. I know a lot of people use the 15% for a sit down, and 10% for a buffet.

We tip about 20% whether it's a sit-down or buffet, but I remember reading recently that a buffet only "requires" a 10% tip.

I have to agree with an earlia post. I tip for quality service regardless of whether its buffet or table service.

I usuallly tip the same and base it on the same principles of service. Just a little aside--for Mothers day we (extended family party of 13) went to a local brunch buffet, they added an 18% gratuity--personally I thought it really high since I had to clear my own plates and stack them because there wasn't anyone in sight and as for refills on beverages, well we won't go there! I did mention this to a manager and he just shrugged it off; I also followed that up with a letter.

We tip less for a buffet. They work hard, but they aren't bringing my food to me.
