The THYROID Thread

Lsdolphin - I hope you get all your issues addressed with the endo. My one dil has Hashimotos. She takes levothyroxine and does well
HeatherLassell - I bet you had an amazing honeymoon! Congratulations to you both! Also hope your ultrasound had good results
@macraven
@Christine
Hope you are both doing well
I am celebrating finally being a grandma! This is the miracle baby and he is so sweet and adorable!
Health wise things are not good. Sure glad I have my faith and I know God is with me.
My latest mri showed the cancer is in my pelvis and a bone tumor has taken over my right hip and is holding it together.
I start radiation Jan. 6. They will decide 5 or 10 treatments. This is at the hospital and not the place I went before so we will see how this experience is.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Oh my, Luvmarypoppins, you have my thoughts and prayers, too. My hope for you in 2025 is successfully beating this cancer's butt!! Enjoy the new little grandchild! It has been a while since I was on this site.

I had/have some health issues as well. Was in hospital 10 days (within 12 hours of returning home from a 32-day cruise) with asthma, Covid, Afib and racing heart. Another 3 days in December for dangerous medication loading to control heart rate and Afib. Currently in waiting mode for ablation. It has been a rough three months.

Hope rest are doing well.

Happy February everyone
@Haimia - Hope your medical issues are being resolved with a good treatment plan

I survived my big radiation dose to the sacrum in Jan. Bad side effects. Now the onc. wants to start chemo pills. My eye is still infected and I need an mri, echo, new pcp visit, cardiologist visit. My head spins with all this medical stuff.
New grandson is the sweetest. He makes me smile!
Check in when you can.

@luvmarypoppins Good to hear from you. Sounds like you've been through a lot lately but you are tough! You must be very sick of all the doctors.

Not much happening here that I can really go into, but it's been a tough few weeks. Looking ahead to hopefully better times.

I'm still in wait mode for the ablation. Told me in November, it may be 6-8 months. I think I may be a guinea pig for the medications and wait on ablation!

luvmarypoppins, you must be so tired of the doctors and the tests and the medications and the tests and all! You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Happy May!!
Hope everyone is doing well.
I had eye surgery for the tear duct scaring and infection in March. Went for a check up today. Surgeon said I am doing well and the stent stuff will come out the end of June and no more infection. Hooray!
Already 3 Dr. visits in June. Never ends.
Sweet grandson is smiling and giggling.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Check in when you can.

How is everyone? This thread is quiet. Well I have progressed from thy cancer to spread to bones and now my new journey is breast cancer. Seeing the breast cancer surgeon on Tuesday. I am glad I have a lot of faith! It sure helps!
Enjoy the end of the summer and check in when you can.

Still good. Take my daily thyroid med when I wake up. Last bloodwork was good numbers still and the next is sometime in the new year. Struggling, with peri-menopause along with only having half a thyroid, trying to lose weight. Pretty frustrating.

It is very frustrating, sending you hugs with hope that your med numbers stay at a good level!

I'm just starting out on the thyroid journey. EVERY female in my family has been treated for hypothyroidism except me. I've had many of the symptoms indicating hypothyroid, but on the rare occasions my PCP would have my TSH level tested, I was always "within range." I just figured the brain fog, poor sleep, cold sensitivity, dry/brittle nails, hair loss, swollen ankles, weight, etc., were just 'aging' issues I'd have to live with. However, I decided to investigate glp-1 treatments when I gained almost 20 pounds in one year (and I have had bariatric surgery, so weight gain is NOT a good sign). I made an appointment with a wellness group and part of the intake discussion was talking about TSH, T3, T4, etc. I learned a couple of things, big ones being (a) the "normal" ranges for these tests varies from lab to lab, and (b) there is a difference between being "normal" and being "optimal." She ordered a full thyroid panel and we learned that all my numbers were at the very limits of the normal hypothyroid ranges for each test. She started me on a low dose of levothyroxine, and I think it's made a difference. My numbers are improving, I feel like my sleep patterns are stabilizing, my hair and nails are in better shape, and I've lost some weight without glp-1. As she said... normal and optimal are 2 different things. I have to say... it's nice to finally be LISTENED TO by a medical professional!

I’ve been fighting with my doctor about the being within the range but at the high end. The only time I have felt good was when for a short time I got my number to “2” vs always being normal but at the high end where it normally seems to be. I just had an increase dose but it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. I go in for retesting in February to see where my levels are. Hopefully I’ll be able to convince the doctor that a 4.X is only normal if you don’t have continued symptoms. Which unfortunately also mimics menopause symptoms.

Don't know if it'll help/make a difference, but my wellness NP shared this with me:

ETA I am NOT a medical professional or giving medical advice. This was shared with me, I'm just sharing, I'm sure you can find this kind of information online if you look.

Thank you. That is helpful. I am definitely going to try to get my doctor to increase my dosage after my February recheck if my levels aren't in the optimal range. There is no need for me to be suffering with the tiredness, dry skin/hair and inability to lose weight and gain it instead. Like you I am considering the GLP-1 because I keep slowly gaining weight and my diet doesn't seem to make a difference.
