For all of you who are sadly missing the taste of all those delicious American snacks and candy - try www.cybercandy.com and go to either the USA flag or the panel on the left.
They are quite expensive to order a small amount as the post & packing bumps up the price but if you really miss your oreo breakfast cereal, beef jerky and hershey's chocolate bars then go for it and place a big order!

Can anyone out there tell me what a Twinky is?

I have seen so many American films that refer to a Twinky but dont really know what it is!

Milly.

48 hours to departure !!!!!! Yeeee Haaaaa!

Yum Yum well when we first went to the states my cousin had to try a twinkie so we stopped at a 7 Eleven and bought some well they are like a sponge cake filled with cream, to be honest they weren't that grest put maybe fresher ones taste different.

Eday -

they are never that great. Twinkies have so many preservatives in them, that I think they will stil be edible when there is no life left on the planet- they always taste the same, kinda stale and a bit rubbery.
Saying that, they are a childhood staple and we loved them when we were kids. They are along the lines of a mini-roll, but white sponge cake filled with cream.

There counterpart is the Ho-Ho, which is chocolate filled with cream and much nicer.

Twinkies are disgustingly synthetic, but my girls love them. They're one of the first things they look for in the supermarket.

I've never had any success ordering anything from Cyber Candy despite exchanging several e-mails with the guy who owns it. Everything I want is almost always out of stock and when they have got something I want, I can never get the online ordering system to work.

Our local newsagent sells Hershey Chocolate and Sainsbury's Oreo biscuits. Don't know about the rest of the stuff but it might be worth checking out a big store before paying a fortune in postage.

There is an American School not far from us so that might affect the product ranges.

My experience of American sweets is not good though. I once bought, unknowningly, some wintergreen flavoured sweets from a vending machine at Philidelphia airport. - yuk!!!!

there is an urban legend here in the USA that if you put a twinkie on an iron railing and leave it, the railing would rust away before the twinkie would disintegrate. I don't know if its true, but it sure tastes like it is! Try a tasty creme donut the next time you come, and you will find a really yummy pastry.

I personally think Twinkies are the most disgusting snack food and I absolutely refuse to buy them for my DS. Of course that makes me the meaniest Mum in the world.

I suggest you give Krispy Kreme doughnuts a try. They are sooooo yummy!

What about USA Kit Kats??! The only time in my life I haven't finished a Kit Kat...........nuff' said!

Annie

Annie I just ate one of y'all's Kit Kats and I can't tell a difference between yours and ours. What didn't you like about ours?

Jana - It's all in the chocolate. My DH reckons the USA chocolate has more wax? in it to keep it from melting. USA chocolate tastes very greasy to me and DH reckons it's all down to the wax! In all other respects the products seems to be the same.

Perhaps some expert out there can confirm this?

Just to even things out, I think the USA McDonalds Big Mac's are waaaay better than the ones we get in England!

Regards.

Ann.

I thought the US chocolate such as Kit Kats and Crunchie bars were sorta plain, not the creamy "dairy milk" flavour we get. There are also lots of sugar free sweets, i bought a pack of them (gummies) by mistake, yuck!

But yeah, the fast food is so much better over there (although on my last trip to Orlando I seemed to eat a large number of Dunkin Donut *dozen* boxes :p )

Oh, and just the thought of Oreo cookies make me feel violently sick

We were at a catering exhibition once
and asked about the difference from the Cadbury Reps and they said it's because American chocolate is made with dried milk and ours is made with fresh full cream. Some of our cheapy stuff tastes awful so that must be made with dried milk as well.
